Lincoln was a powerhouse of medieval England and retains amazing monuments from that period. In the Uphill district is the castle built for William the Conqueror. Inside its an original copy of the Magna Carta and its ramparts offer fabulous city views. Across the cobbled square which houses the large Christmas market is huge Lincoln Cathedral whose unusual façade features 2 tall towers, while another at its centre overlooks the Bishop’s Palace.
Connecting the cathedral quarter with the Downhill district is aptly named Steep Hill, a narrow street lined with unique shops and historic buildings including the Jew’s House. Even older are the Roman Newport Arch, Mint Wall and the well on Bailgate.
This road slopes down to meet the River Witham at High Bridge, a stone-arched structure with a half-timbered building atop that is the oldest of its kind in England. Lincoln boat trips depart from the Brayford Pool just west.
Another monument is the 18th-century Ellis Mill, opposite the Museum of Lincolnshire Life. The Collection combines an archaeology museum and art gallery, while The Lawn has a conference centre and the Joseph Banks Conservatory, displaying artefacts he brought back from adventures with Captain Cook.
Booking.com’s Lincoln accommodation covers luxury waterfront hotels, guest houses by the university and cheap apartments near the train station.

Lincoln is a city dating back to Roman times with many buildings and ancient remains to see. It's more recent history associated with WWI and the invention of the tank can be discovered in the museum of Lincolnshire Life, and its WWII connection to bomber command, the Dam Busters and the RAF can be explored in the poignant International Bomber Command centre and memorial. Lincoln has a very lively pub and restaurant scene, catering for every taste. The cathedral quarter is the most scenic although car parking can be at a premium.

Stunning cathedral - would recommend the floor and roof tours and the cafe. The Victorian prison in the castle and the ramparts walk are well worth visiting.
There is a very steep hill (called Steep Hill!) linking the lower and upper part of the city where the historic centre is.

I love Lincoln!
I love Lincoln! I have been 3 times now and keep finding interesting places to go that I either didn't have time for before or hadn't come across. The view from the Castle is amazing - suitable for all weathers. The Victorian Prison inside the Castle is unique and well worth a visit. The Cathedral is breathtaking with a wonderful restaurant attached, helping to extend my visit there. Lots of shops, cafes, bars, cinema, theatre, galleries, etc. Everywhere is welcoming and good value for money.
Perfect for a long weekend but also enough to do for a week's stay. I travelled by train there and could walk to everywhere easily. I have used the buses as well, which are easy to navigate.

I regularly go to Lincoln to visit family and stay for a few days when I can. Some parts of the old town area are difficult to access due to cobblestones and narrow pavements with mobility aids. The cathedral is well worth a visit. Shops and restaurants are plentiful.

Lincoln is two towns, a lower one which is like many towns in England and an upper town, which is special. At the centre is a square across which the cathedral and castle face one another. The cathedral is so large and impressive that it dominates everything else

Great venue for a weekend away - you can walk everywhere (...
Great venue for a weekend away - you can walk everywhere (steep slope up to the Castle andCathedral). The Cathedral is stunning and the Castle worth the trip on it's own. The £16 ticket seemed a lot, but it was well worth it. A guided tour outside, a walk with audio set around the castle walls, a visit to the old prison and, to cap it all, to see the Magna Carta (one of the four existing copies in existence).
With the cafe on site we spent a very full morning seeing everything - allow 4 hours to do it justice.
Staff really helpful. Room had everything and more that I needed for a visit to the University for which it is ideally located. Room was in first-class condition with everything needed being available. My second visit and a hotel I can both recommend unreservedly and will use again. As a bonus Lincoln, with its cathedral and castle is a great city for a visit and is within easy walking distance of this hotel. If you are lucky you may also see the Red Arrows RAF display team flying over the city as they are based nearby.
The location was terrific. I was working at the cathedral which was just across the road. The room was big enough, comfortable with a desk to work at and plenty of sockets. Wi-Fi was good enough for me. The car park, just £7 for the whole stay, for a hotel in the city centre was amazing. Couldn’t fault the breakfast. Would stay again whenever I go to Lincoln.
Perfect place to relax, secluded and private.
Kitchen had everything it needed if you want to stay in and cook
So lovely and peaceful sitting and watching the birds and ducks over the lake!
No wifi so TV only had free view channels - Iv put this as a positive as that’s what this kind of trip is about!
15 minutes drive to Lincoln which is a lovely day out
Its in a great quiet location, just at the back of Lincolns castle.
Rooms were very clean and the bed was very comfortable bathroom was excellent
The staff were friendly and helpful and knowledge about the area.
There is a small Stokes coffee restaurant just across from the hotel if u needed an evening meal or a coffee .
And plenty of parking
The hotel is located overlooking Lincoln Cathedral, with Lincoln Castle just a few minutes walk away. The hotel offers on-site parking (at a reasonable charge), with a bar and restaurant on site.
Ideal for exploring the Cathedral, Castle and higher level above Steep Hill, with bars and restaurants within a few minutes walk.
What a real gem sometimes we are so use to using chain hotels we forget about independent places, in the upper town oh Lincoln not far from the cathedral very steep walk into town but easy taxi service if needed really good breakfast with lovely staff our bedroom was beautiful really charming would 100% stay again
Amazing location we could hear the Cathedral bells and it was a two minute walk to the castle. The place had everything we needed to cook meals and a comfortable bed. The patio was lovely and would have been even better if the weather had cooperated! The parking spot in Lincoln is a huge plus.
Everything great , quite, not a lot of phone service, great pub, very helpful staff. Early check in late check out, powerful hot hub,
Nice lodge, good TVs. Not bad fitness gym WiFi was good. Hotel manager site manager was brilliant very accommodating makes your feel very welcome and relaxed.
Fantastic location overlooking Lincoln. The Apartment was lovely with nice little touches everywhere it felt more like a home than a holiday let. The hill up to the apartment from the town was very steep but don't be put off Ubers were reasonable to use.
Friendly welcome and quick check in. Room was clean and comfortable. WiFi worked fine. Just outside of Lincoln but still convenient for going in and other destinations as on ring road. Location is semi rural and nice and calm.
The location. The hotel is situated on the main Street through Lincoln city centre and close to pubs, restaurants and the Cathedral and Castle.
There are 2 carparks close by so walking with luggage isn't a big issue
Really beautiful, unique hotel, exceptionally clean and well equipped in the heart of Lincolns Old Town. Fantastic facilities with a really lovely receptionist and really great value for money. Highly recommended!
The staff were very friendly, helpful and welcoming.
Availability of a parking space.
Location was the deciding factor as to where to stay, hotel was very central to Lincoln City centre.
In no particular order: Perfect location for exploring Lincoln on foot / excellent breakfast / very friendly yet professional staff both at the hotel and the restaurant.
AS stated above all the aspects of a hotel are catered for in a professional and effective manner. Whenever I am in Lincoln, IBIS is my hotel of choice.
