Gorgeous setting with the most wonderful view of the River Tweed from our room. Beautiful walks locally. Having Dryburgh Abbey literally on the doorstep was an added bonus.
The front desk staff were very friendly and welcoming - the staff in the restaurant were helpful and professional.
Breakfast was tasty and in a beautiful room with stunning views. A choice of lovely Scottish products on the hot menu as well as a good selection of cold food on the buffet.
The room was clean and tidy, with basic decor. The bathroom was clean and functional with a great shower!!
Our meal on the final evening was very tasty even though the restaurant was not quite what we were led to believe.

Excellent accommodation within a beautiful building of great historical significance and set in magnificent countryside. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful making our stay relaxing and enjoyable. I would definitely recommend the castle tour. Our guide (Norman) had a wealth of knowledge with regard to both the castle itself and the Maitland family who have occupied it over the centuries.

The location was great for visiting the Scottish Borders.
A good variety of places in Lauder to dine out.
There is good bus services to Edinburgh + other towns in the Borders.
The bus stops are just outside the apartment.
Lovely, warm welcome, the room was clean, modern and the bed was comfy. Breakfast was excellent and served in a beautiful room with antique furniture and a real coal fire.
The staff were busy but still found time to chat. We always break any journey South at the Lauderdale, even if it doesn’t suit our timetable, we work around it so that we can enjoy a stay there.
Lovely clean self-catering flat very near the centre of Lauder. For two people it was ideal. There was a small shop nearby and a larger Coop slighyly farther away (we were walking). The host was extremely helpful. When a little snag occurred, someone arrived within ten minutes to help out. A very pleasant atmosphere.
Amazing stay! We stayed in the sculleries, the rooms were extremely comfortable, very clean. The castle is set in lovely grounds, a great place to unwind. We couldn't have asked for anything better. The location was ideal for exploring the local area. The Black Bull in Lauder was a great place to eat out.
The bed was comfy, the house was completely refurbished and smartly decorated. The kitchen was well equipped and stylish. The bathroom had underfloor heating. The patio caught the sun in the afternoon.
Lauder has a fine dining restaurant ,Firebrick, an artisan bakery a good cafe/gallery and a deli.
Lauder was our base and we visited several tourist attractions up to an hour’s drive away.
The apartment was very comfortable and we so enjoyed our stay. Three very large bedrooms and bathrooms all of a very high standard. Walked the castle and river walks. They even opened the gift shop for us.
Great location close to shore. We did liked the massive fireplace in hotel restaurant and overall it felt "like home". Breakfast was amazing with plenty to choose from. We loved the morning vibe of the place. Staff was friendly and kind. Dinner at the place was ok, but not great.
Margo was an absolute delight. The breakfast was incredible and the overall experience was exactly what we were looking for. We had a lovely walk through Lauder with a stop by the local pub. The locals were welcoming and jovial. Couldn't have asked for a better experience.
I am a retired professional chef and hotel manager for Hyatt hotels and rarely am I so impressed with a facility to the degree that I am with the Black Bull. If the opportunity presents itself you must stay here and will not be disappointed whatsoever.
The hotel was excellent, very nice interior, well appointed, comfortable room, excellent food, great service and friendly staff and owners. A great base for exploring the Scottish Borders. I would gladly stay again if in the area.
Very friendly hotel with spacious bedroom and bathroom. Very comfortable bed and quiet room. Lovely dinner at table looking out onto the attractive high street. This was an ideal stop-off point on our way further north.
Extremely clean, well equipped, cosy cottage in Scottish Borders town of Lauder. The hosts very kindly had thought of everything you might need and left a very generous welcome basket in the cottage. Recommend 👍🏻
The most friendly and welcoming hosts you could wish to meet. They have a passion for what they do, for their superbly appointed hotel and their guests. Excellent food.
Old characterful hotel. Restaurant food was exceptional. King size room was very comfortable and worth the little extra on the price. Staff were all very good as well.
