Lauder is a great village with everything you need. Spotty Dog for coffee and a Scotch egg, Flat Cat Gallery for gift shopping and cake. There is a butchers, post office, pharmacy and co-op. As well as a beautiful church, castle and surrounding areas with lots of history and natural beauty. An underrated gem

Excellent accommodation within a beautiful building of great historical significance and set in magnificent countryside. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful making our stay relaxing and enjoyable. I would definitely recommend the castle tour. Our guide (Norman) had a wealth of knowledge with regard to both the castle itself and the Maitland family who have occupied it over the centuries.

The location was great for visiting the Scottish Borders.
The location was great for visiting the Scottish Borders.
A good variety of places in Lauder to dine out.
There is good bus services to Edinburgh + other towns in the Borders.
The bus stops are just outside the apartment.
Margot was incredibly welcoming and ensured that we felt at home. :) The room had all that is needed including tea/coffee & snacks. Margot also cooked very tasty breakfast for us that included porrage, scrambled eggs with salmon and fruit among other items. One of the best breakfasts we had in Scotland! :) The place truly feels like home versus a hotel. We also appreciated the free parking spot in the front of the house. We would certainly recommend this place to others!
We booked room in Carfraemill Hotel. Unfortunately, due to storm there’re no electricity. We were shifted to Kings Arms Hotel in Melrose.
We really enjoyed our stay in Kings Arms Hotel Melrose. All staff was really helpful specially Breakfast staff who’s from South Africa. His customer service was outstanding as well as Chef cooked really nice food for us.
Amazing stay! We stayed in the sculleries, the rooms were extremely comfortable, very clean. The castle is set in lovely grounds, a great place to unwind. We couldn't have asked for anything better. The location was ideal for exploring the local area. The Black Bull in Lauder was a great place to eat out.
The bed was comfy, the house was completely refurbished and smartly decorated. The kitchen was well equipped and stylish. The bathroom had underfloor heating. The patio caught the sun in the afternoon.
Lauder has a fine dining restaurant ,Firebrick, an artisan bakery a good cafe/gallery and a deli.
Lauder was our base and we visited several tourist attractions up to an hour’s drive away.
The apartment was very comfortable and we so enjoyed our stay. Three very large bedrooms and bathrooms all of a very high standard. Walked the castle and river walks. They even opened the gift shop for us.
this hotel exceeded all expectations. the room was simply beautiful, the bed was sooo comfy and the feel when staying was so at ease. the decor and attention detail of the hotel was very classy. and then there are the staff, so friendly, chatty and polite.
I will definitely returning.
I am a retired professional chef and hotel manager for Hyatt hotels and rarely am I so impressed with a facility to the degree that I am with the Black Bull. If the opportunity presents itself you must stay here and will not be disappointed whatsoever.
The staff were very friendly. The food was excellent. The room was spotless. The location is ideal for exploring The Borders and is within easy reach of Edinburgh and the Lothians and also Northumberland. I happily recommend this excellent hotel.
The hotel was excellent, very nice interior, well appointed, comfortable room, excellent food, great service and friendly staff and owners. A great base for exploring the Scottish Borders. I would gladly stay again if in the area.
Extremely clean, well equipped, cosy cottage in Scottish Borders town of Lauder. The hosts very kindly had thought of everything you might need and left a very generous welcome basket in the cottage. Recommend 👍🏻
The most friendly and welcoming hosts you could wish to meet. They have a passion for what they do, for their superbly appointed hotel and their guests. Excellent food.
Old characterful hotel. Restaurant food was exceptional. King size room was very comfortable and worth the little extra on the price. Staff were all very good as well.
Great location in Lauder High Street. Was perfect place to stay for a wedding at Thirlestane Castle. Place was wonderfully clean and tidy and good host.
