The bedroom was large, clean and comfortable. I received a lovely greeting on arrival and was offered a choice of food. Fabulous bar area with a roaring fire. Breakfast was perfect. I was also given a takeaway coffee when I was heading home.

I was in Newbury for work at the local showground which was a short 10min drive.
In the evenings we had the pleasure of visiting the local pubs and restaurants of which there are plenty for all tastes and budgets (Italian, That, English, Turkish, Spanish etc) including take always too.
You can stroll along the river, take in the theatre or shopping areas, ideal for a weekend trip with a partner or friends as the racecourse is also close by.

Small market town that has essential shopping and even a family owned department store. There are many walks along the canal or small river that runs around the town. Visit Highclere ( the home of Downton Abbey) or just chill out in the surrounding countryside.

Newbury was a bit of a revelation.
Newbury was a bit of a revelation. To be honest all we needed was a place to eat as we had opted not to eat in the Hotel. There were plenty to choose from on the high street and we opted for a Lebanese which had beautiful food with good service. The high street itself was closed but we had a wander around and discovered what would be a very vibrant centre in the day time

We stayed two nights and that was exactly enough for a quick look around Newbury, with a visit next day to Highclere Castle, and a departure the next morning. We visited an art installation in the Corn Exchange. A six metre diameter model of the moon. Very peaceful viewing. However, there was almost nothing in Newbury which made us feel we needed more time, nor any reason to re-visit.
We ate in the Lodge Hotel on the Racecourse the first evening. The menu is very limited indeed, basically pizzas, burgers and chicken wings. Next evening we ate at the Swan Inn in Newtown, just south of Newbury. This was a very nice meal.
It is easy to get around Newbury because there are plenty of car parks in the town centre and the place is small enough to cover on foot.
The Furze Bush is your perfect English Country Inn! The pub is adorable, the breakfast was perfect and cooked to order!
We enjoyed drinks on the lawn, played with dogs that others who’d stopped in for a pint brought!
Room was comfortable and spacious compared with city hotel rooms.
It is also just a 10 min ride from Highclere Castle. We booked a roundtrip with “Take me home James” car service and these whole event was exceptional!
This is a nice hotel. The limited hard-working staff do the best they can with what they have. This business needs updating, the owners need to rethink & refocus. The room size was super and fresh with the patio door type. The adjoining spa was a draw for me and it was clean, I would have liked more time to use it. I would suggest booking for spa treatments before arrival, as there was a wedding on-site, completely booked.
The room was great, very comfortable and clean. We don't usually eat at the hotel, but the food was so good we ate here both nights. The set menu is especially good value. Shower was very good, toiletries were nice. Great to have fresh milk delivered each morning to the room along with bottled water. Staff were generally very good and friendly. the town centre is walkable, around 20 minutes.
Breakfast was superb so was evening meal. Hannah at the bar and breakfast was brilliant and so helpful and always wore a mask and stood out from the rest. All the staff were great and very helpful just Hannah went that little bit extra. The hotel was great value for money, we paid for half board and it was really worth it. We will definitely stay again, probably the next time Newbury races are on.
The hotel is beautiful, with well-furnished and spacious bedrooms, lovely grounds, and comfortable public areas. The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. My friends and I ate in Yu restaurant, which was delicious, and we all used the spa. A couple of us booked treatments, which were great. The breakfasts were also reasonably priced with a good selection. Highly recommended.
My booking was cancelled by the hotel the day before my due date, on the pretence that they had flood.
I had to book another hotel 4 miles out of Newbury which cost £50 more.
I visited the Bacon Arms on booked morning asking for a room for the night, I was offered a room.
When I asked about my booking being cancelled they were very aggressive and uncooperative.
Breakfast was included and we had a choice between full English to Continental as well as any other choice we could think of. The rooms were a bit small when judged on other hotels on the continent. Location was away from the city but right on the bus line. Staff were more than anxious to cater to our every need. Walk in bathroom was a pleasure.
The staff were very accommodating and parking at the hotel was very good. It was exciting to be booked in somewhere near the racecourse as it gave you a sense of the atmosphere at the track and it was fascinating to look around. The location was also only a short walk from Newbury centre.
Stayed in King Charles 1.. what can I say "wow". Great room. Love the fact that it's in the courtyard. Amazing size. Stayed in a lot of hotels and this is my favourite. Will be here again now Next month.
It was a really beautiful, luxurious hotel and spa. I enjoyed the jacuzzi and pool and the staff were amazing, going above and beyond to ensure my comfort.
Stayed in rooms 119/123, 9 July.
Stayed in the summer house adjacent main hotel, lovely and quiet, rooms large and clean. Allotted own parking space which was close. Lovely location with golf course away from Newbury.
Great location in Newbury town centre. Room very clean with tea/coffee making facilities. Staff helpful and even knocked to ask we needed any additional toiletries etc.
A Close to Highclere Castle (Downton Abbey).
B There is a medium sized swimming pool
C The beds are larger than normal

Very nice hotel, well situated near town centre, free parking at rear of hotel, everything was clean, well equipped room, very good help yourself breakfast.
