Oboke Iya Onsen-kyo, Miyoshi
Featuring beautiful nature views from its rooftop hot spring bath, Hotel Kazurabashi offers Japanese-style rooms and a dining room where food is prepared in the hearth at the guest's table. For more relaxation, it has a sauna and a games room, while massages can be arranged. tldr: perfect stay, we'd stay there again! Nice staff, good food, amazing Onsen, good value for money. Long version: Well kept, well maintained and clean hotel. We stayed in a tatami-style room, which was very roomy for 2 people. Our room on 3rd floor was facing the road, with a nice view of the mountains. Despite being located next to a road, it's no problem as there is little traffic during the day and almost none at night. There is an outdoor Onsen with a view of either the mountains during the day or the stars at night. It is so relaxing to enjoy the stars in the onsen after a day of hiking! For people arriving by car, there's plenty of parking spaces right in front of the Hotel. For people arriving by bus, the bus stop is right in front of the Hotel. Very convenient. The staff is amazing! They really, really made us feel welcome and put in a lot of effort to make our stay great. Big "Thank You" to the staff!! The food (breakfast and dinner) was great as well. It's a variety of local and general Japanese food, served on traditional low tables (that allow western type of sitting with a hole in the floor below the table). The Hotel is a bit more expensive than what we usually book and we were hesitant when we booked it, but after staying we think everything considered (food, onsen, staff) it's good value for money and we'd stay there again. Iya Valley: We stayed for 3 nights, which means two full days. We didn't have a car so we relied on the public bus, which means there's basically one bus to Mount Tsuragi in the morning and one bus back in the afternoon. We went hiking on Mount Tsuragi & sight-seeing in Ochiai village on one day, to Nogoro (Scarecrow) village & double vine bridges the other day. By car, it can be done on a single day, by bus you need 2 days due to the timetable. Arrival & departure day can be used for the vine bridge close to the Hotel, visiting Oboke and the temple in Kotohira.
Oboke Iya Onsen-kyo, Miyoshi
The air-conditioned rooms feature a TV, a fridge and an electric kettle. Guests can choose to stay in rooms with tatami (woven-straw) floors and Japanese futon bedding or in rooms with Western beds and carpeted floors. All rooms come with a private toilet, while some rooms have shared bathrooms. I particularly like the interior decor of the room. It is new and modern and yet retain some Japanese elements, like a tatami floor in the sitting area. It is clean and attends to details such as providing a lot of sockets for electrical appliances. It is conveniently located in the Oboke region

Great and friendly employees which where able to speak English well. One could see that they are investing a lot in modernizing, which is quite uncommon among the Ryokan we have been too. The dinner and breakfast where great.
The rooms were clean and tidy. It had all the things we needed, such as hairdryer, towels, TV, etc. There were enough plugs and even USB ports, very handy. The tatami room was very cool. Spacious room. One room had a double bed and we were given two double duvets. The bed was also firm, which is how I like it! The toilet and shower were clean and had all the toiletries we needed. The kitchen looks cool but we didn't get a chance to use it. Self check in and check out was very easy and quick. Instructions given were very clear.
The photos and information doesn’t do the Iya Onsen Hotel justice. Everyone and everything is wonderful but the best bit was our own private outdoor onsen bath with spectacular Mountain View and kimonos, closely followed by the cable car and public outdoor onsen. Top tip: Make use of the kimonos in the room and wear them to the restaurant, don’t worry as everyone else will be wearing theirs.
The open air bath on our room's balcony was amazing, as was dinner. Breakfast was pretty good too! This was our first time staying in a ryokan and it was as magical as I had hoped.
If you like Japanese style breakfast, then you choose the right hotel. They provide a very good and fresh breakfast ! The onsen is 最高 !
Amazing hospitality, wonderful dinner and breakfast, very generous serving size - we struggled to finish everything! Many ingredients are sourced locally and from the farm. Exceptionally accommodating and friendly hosts. Futons are sumptuous.
Traditional Japanese inn (ryokan), includes dinner and breakfast, has hot spring-fed baths (onsen). They were completely accommodating to our pescatarian diet. Multiple-course meals served beautifully. Very comfortable futons arranged by staff while you are out during the day. Location is for visiting Iya Valley, and vine bridge.
Brilliant, traditional style Ryokan with outdoor onsen with breathtaking views. You are taken to the onsen by a small cable car which adds to the unique experience.
Cute old grandmother running the ryokan was able to get us a discount on the nearby onsen (though, I think that all the nearby properties have some kind of preferential rates, be sure to ask at the place you are staying). Otherwise the room was decent for what you pay.
The meals were excellent. Similarly, the onsen and in-room hot spring bath were very nice. The staff was very helpful and kind.
