All of the meals were amazing! This was Shujin Ryori at its finest! We could not have asked for better. The tatami rooms were beautiful with lovely views of the temples and trees. The hotel is set inside the temple complex within a forest of very tall old cedars and bamboo on a mountainside. The air was fresh and clean. It was quiet and peaceful. The staff were very friendly and helpful and offered to drive us to the Adachi Museum of Art. We preferred to relax in the forest with the peace and quiet.

Guests can wear the provided Japanese Yukata robes and can experience making bamboo art and crafts, if requested at time of booking. JR Tsuwano Train Station is only a 1-minute walk away. The room was traditional and surprisingly large. The location very near to the train station was great and the food was lovely. We were served a wonderful steamed fish dish for dinner along with a delicious sake tasting. The host really made us feel welcome. Tsuwano is a real gem, and I would totally recommend Hoshi Ryokan.

Matsue
All accommodations have a tatami (woven-straw) floor and Japanese futon bedding. Amenities include air conditioning and an LCD TV, while some rooms have a fridge and an attached bathroom. Yukata robes are provided. A real discovery: Mihonoseki is a special place, a fishermen's village away from everything and still quite convenient to reach. I stayed at one of the Fukumakan annex houses. A beautiful old Japanese house, perfectly maintained with all conforts one might need. Lovely views of the port from the first floor. Breakfast and dinner are also a special treat in Japanese fish cuisine. Highly recommended

The front desk was great! they helped us booking rides to the silver mine and letting us know about the performance at a nearby shrine. I got sick later in the stay and the staff were very helpful getting some cold medicine in this small town with no pharmacy. The onsen/bathing facilities were small (as it is a small inn) and were very nice. The town was lovely but small so if you come at a busy time I suggest booking some of the restaurants. We did not book the food at the inn so I don't know how it was.

Really wonderful staff who were very helpful at all times. The rooms were clean and we had a lovely view over the lake/river. The onsen/bath house was great.
Clean hotel with traditional feel to it (tatami mats, samues). Very friendly staff (bit tricky with English but they had some translation app on little handheld devices). Lovely large onsen on the rooftop with views over matsue and lake shinji. Lovely large breakfast buffet. Absolutely loved the free massage chairs.
The location made the station very easy to access. The building is in the old Ryokan style on the inside, which makes it an enjoyable cultural experience. Tatami-mat rooms and futons for beds. Kitchen is spacious and could easily facilitate cooking a full dinner.
Really enjoyed how every where in the hotel was tatami floored. It was so nice not to wear shoes around for a change. The spa was amazing, and I enjoyed the free ice cream and the massage chairs after the onsen too.
Great location just opposite the station. Convenience store just next to the hotel as well. Staffs are very very helpful and friendly. My friend left her scarf at an Onsen Ryokan in Tamatsukuri Onsen and a staff called them for us to check if they found a scarf. When we asked a nice cafe near the hotel, she copied a map and circled the cafe on the map and gave the map to me. The staffs went the extra miles to help us. Big bath is also very nice although it's an artificial Onsen.
A very great Japanese experience with Tatami mats throughout the hotel. The rooms are small but functional and the onsen is great. It's a short walk to the Castle which is a must see in Matsue. The breakfast was a highlight. Such an incredible selection and quality of food was outstanding. in keeping with the hotel, it is very traditional Japanese fair so do not expect Western options.
Great location in Matsue. Moder building with a classic Japanese style, everything is Tatami mats from the entrance to your room. Multiple elevators for quick access to any floor. Free amenities (toothbrush etc.), free snacks and manga to read in the hot springs. Large, multiple spring baths with different temperature. Large lounge on the first floor. Rooms are large and well furnished with a table, and a coffee table with a small sofa.
Very tasteful Japanese-style outdoor and indoor Complimentary water bottles and juice in the room, beverage service in lobby at some hours, and ice cream at onsen. Ryokan style service: first cleaning of the wheels of suitcase, putting of shoes and walking through entire interior of hotel in socks on tatami floor. Very nice onsen (in and outdoor) with massage chairs. Beautiful tatami mat style room with modern touch, bigger bathroom than usual.
