Oboke Iya Onsen-kyo, Miyoshi
Featuring beautiful nature views from its rooftop hot spring bath, Hotel Kazurabashi offers Japanese-style rooms and a dining room where food is prepared in the hearth at the guest's table. For more relaxation, it has a sauna and a games room, while massages can be arranged. tldr: perfect stay, we'd stay there again! Nice staff, good food, amazing Onsen, good value for money. Long version: Well kept, well maintained and clean hotel. We stayed in a tatami-style room, which was very roomy for 2 people. Our room on 3rd floor was facing the road, with a nice view of the mountains. Despite being located next to a road, it's no problem as there is little traffic during the day and almost none at night. There is an outdoor Onsen with a view of either the mountains during the day or the stars at night. It is so relaxing to enjoy the stars in the onsen after a day of hiking! For people arriving by car, there's plenty of parking spaces right in front of the Hotel. For people arriving by bus, the bus stop is right in front of the Hotel. Very convenient. The staff is amazing! They really, really made us feel welcome and put in a lot of effort to make our stay great. Big "Thank You" to the staff!! The food (breakfast and dinner) was great as well. It's a variety of local and general Japanese food, served on traditional low tables (that allow western type of sitting with a hole in the floor below the table). The Hotel is a bit more expensive than what we usually book and we were hesitant when we booked it, but after staying we think everything considered (food, onsen, staff) it's good value for money and we'd stay there again. Iya Valley: We stayed for 3 nights, which means two full days. We didn't have a car so we relied on the public bus, which means there's basically one bus to Mount Tsuragi in the morning and one bus back in the afternoon. We went hiking on Mount Tsuragi & sight-seeing in Ochiai village on one day, to Nogoro (Scarecrow) village & double vine bridges the other day. By car, it can be done on a single day, by bus you need 2 days due to the timetable. Arrival & departure day can be used for the vine bridge close to the Hotel, visiting Oboke and the temple in Kotohira.

Toon
Situated in Toon, 11 km from Cools Mall and 12 km from To-on Park, 瀧乃元 近藤家(Kondoke-Inn) features spacious air-conditioned accommodation with a terrace and free WiFi. Set 16 km from Fuji GRAND SHIGENOBU Shopping Centre, the property offers a garden and free private parking. Joruri-ji Temple is 22 km from the ryokan and Kaiganzan Iwaya-ji Temple is 37 km away. We absolutely loved this place. The host and staff are so friendly and made us feel very welcome. The house itself is lovely, an old renovated farm house, with plenty of space and a stunning view of the surrounding mountains. There is a small independent cafe attached which is not to be missed - amazing coffee and, again, the owner is just lovely. I would recommend traveling by car but the roads are easy to navigate, there is good parking and so much to do in the area (from hiking to canyoning and kayaking; and larger cities such as Matsuyama, and slightly further, Kochi, are not too far away - we even went into town by car one evening for the famous Dogo Onsen). All in all, not to be missed!
Dogo Hot Spring, Matsuyama
Located in Matsuyama, 600 metres from Joshin-ji Temple, Yamatoya Besso offers accommodation with a spa and wellness centre, private parking, an open-air bath and a garden. This 4-star ryokan offers a 24-hour front desk and a lift. The accommodation provides a hot spring bath, free WiFi throughout the property and family rooms. We loved our four day stay in Yamatoya Besso. The onsen was fabulous. We had it to ourselves. The staff was super attentive especially Midori who speaks excellent English but everyone was wonderful. Breakfast was amazing. The location was superb, close to Matsuyama Castle, shopping, cafes, restaurants, and a short train ride to all the local sites. We look forward to returning to Yamatoya Besso.

Guests can choose to stay in rooms with tatami (woven-straw) floors and Japanese futon bedding or in rooms with Western beds and carpeted floors. All rooms come with a private toilet, while some rooms have shared bathrooms. I particularly like the interior decor of the room. It is new and modern and yet retain some Japanese elements, like a tatami floor in the sitting area. It is clean and attends to details such as providing a lot of sockets for electrical appliances. It is conveniently located in the Oboke region

I loved our stay here!! The highlight of our Japan trip. The staff were all really friendly especially Taguchi san and the food was amazing! We were served a different menu for our second night, too. The private onsen bath overlooking dogo onsen was lovely. And the yukatas were cute!
A fantastic ryokan right next to Dogo Onsen. One of the best breakfasts I've had in Japan (that's saying something), and a wonderful host in Hisa. 100% recommend staying here.
Great location! So close to the ferry terminal which made it a great choice as we were coming back from Naoshima on the last high-speed boat. The whole guesthouse had lots of art-related and Takamatsu-related flyers which was fun. Easy check-in and out and the man managing the front desk was very friendly (bonus or warning depending on you: two cats in the check-in room!). The yukatas were very comfy and the edging of the tatami mats were Yayoi Kusama-pumpkin themed which was a fun touch, as was the keychain on our key!
The breakfast, the onsen, and the location of the ryokan were all perfect. The staff is also very friendly!
The kimonos in the room, the traditional breakfast and the onsen were amazing.
The location is incredible, directly opposite dogo onsen. The room was very spacious, especially compared to Japanese standards. The staff were very helpful in assisting in getting into the car park (it was our first time driving into a stacked car park). The inclusive Japanese breakfast was tasty. It was the first time my wife enjoyed eating natto. It was great to walk to the dogo onsen annex in the supplied yukata, winter jacket, and clogs.
A wonderfully authentic ryokan experience. Hisa is a great host and makes a delicious Japanese breakfast. The room was beautiful - paper walls and tatami, all in great condition. I slept fine on the futon. The shared bathroom was clean and pleasant and the onsen fun to use. Close to public onsens which you can walk to in the provided beautiful yukata.
Dogo Yaya is exceptional as a mid- range hotel and deserves the many industry awards it has received. Staff are most welcoming and helpful in explaining the accommodation facilities and inclusions (morning breakfast and evening sea bream rice), also the discount ticketing for the three Dogo Onsen baths, available through the hotel, and complementary yukata, geta, towels, soap, etc. All has been considered for guests to have a relaxing, comfortable and enjoyable stay.
Close to the station, with tatami floor and futon beds. Perfect experience as a local type of accomodation. Breakfast was sufficient and onsen is nice.
Wonderful blend of east meets west. My room was huge and carpeted, some others were tatami. I believe must have beds rather than futons. The hot spring baths were wonderful. Their are both indoor and outdoor. I paid 3000yen for a private outdoor bath which was good. I didn’t dine in the restaurant for dinner. But breakfast was wonderful. The lounge area turns into a bar at night which was very popular and not expensive.
