Shibu Onsen Koishiya Ryokan 3 stars

Shibu Onsen, Yamanouchi

Located in the historical Shibu Onsen district, 渋温泉小石屋旅館 offers both private and dormitory-style guest rooms as well as an on-site restaurant where local dishes, wines and craft beers are available.

There is no Onsen・Bath in 渋温泉小石屋旅館, however, staying guests at 渋温泉小石屋旅館 can enjoy 9 public baths in Shibu onsen(free). There are 2 shower rooms in 渋温泉小石屋旅館. The staff was so friendly, and the hotel has a great vibe. The building and facilities may be old, but that's really part of its charm. We would come back again for sure.

The rooms feature heating facilities, tatami (woven-straw) floors and Japanese futon bedding. A fan, a TV and an electric kettle with green tea bags are included in each. Shibu Hotel 3 stars

Shibu Onsen, Yamanouchi

Offering a free-use reservable hot-spring bath, shared indoor and outdoor hot-spring baths, and traditional multi-course dinners with Shinshu beef, Shibu Hotel is 8 minutes from Yudanaka Train Station on the free shuttle. The traditional rooms have Japanese-style futon bedding on a tatami (woven-straw) floor. A wonderful stay. Chose this hotel due to having transportation between Yudanaka train station and the Snow Monkey Park. Very handy indeed! There are two public onsen within the facility (gender separated) and two private onsen (indoor, free and outdoor, 2000yen per 30 mins, or free with select rooms) in addition to the 9x onsen in town. In-room drinks provided (free) and replenished daily with local snacks provided in-room and changed daily also. A nice touch! Tip - choose a consecutive night stay (2 nights) and you’ll have the town onsen to yourself until 3pm when the guests start to check into their hotels. Most only stay 1 night so the town onsen can get quite busy from 3pm. We chose the “no meals” options in our booking and were spoiled for choice within Shibu Onsen (places open from 5.30-6pm), no reservations necessary which isn’t the case for most other towns in Japan!

Suminoyu 3 stars

Shibu Onsen, Yamanouchi

The air-conditioned rooms have tatami (woven-straw) floors and Japanese futon bedding. A TV, fridge and an electric kettle with green tea bags are provided in each. Rooms come with a private toilet but bathrooms are shared.

Japanese dishes featuring local ingredients are available at the ryokan. Dinner is served in a private dining room. We booked this place primarily for its proximity to the snow monkey park, but were absolutely delighted by the accommodations. They picked us up from the bus station upon arrival, dropped us off at the park, and had our luggage delivered to a cafe across from the train station which made arrival/departure so easy. The staff were exceptional - kind, accommodating, and polite (and spoke excellent English). The meals were yummy and filling. The ryokan is next to a street of onsens which they give you a special key to access, but we felt the onsen in this ryokan was the best (and obviously most convenient) - there is a spacious and clean indoor onsen, as well as a smaller open air onsen (it was magical sitting in it while it snowed). We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.

Yudanaka Yasuragi 3 stars

Yudanaka Onsen, Yamanouchi

Yasuragi Inn’s Japanese-style rooms have tatami (woven-straw) floors, futon beds and a flat-screen TV. Each room is air-conditioned. A fridge, an electric kettle and yukata robes are provided. All guests have access to the on-site hot spring public baths, and they can be reserved for private use. (please inquire at the front desk for more information.) I wish I could speak Japanese to express 100% my feelings to the owners when we left. We had an AMAZING experience, from the picking up on the train station to the comfy beds and outstanding dinner. The onsen baths was really good, and the shared bathroom was not a problem at all since, in practice, the shower is in the onsen space. Last thing: they also took us to the station by car in the early morning. So kind! We definitely left the place in better mind and shape even staying just for one night.
