Boasting open-air hot spring baths, a heated indoor pool and beautiful Japanese gardens, Senjukaku offers traditional Japanese-style accommodation that has a historic charm. Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park is a 15-minute drive away. I loved everything about this place. The location (walking distance to snow monkey park and to shibu onsen), the food, the rooms, the onsen was wonderful. It's a bit dated, but super well maintained. I actually liked the old school charm and luxury.

A safe and yukata robes are provided. Really nice and friendly staff. Nice and clean rooms. Generous breakfasts and dinners with daily changing menues - the wagyu meat was especially good! He even made sure that I know my way back to Nagano before we parted ways. Onsen is booking system, so it's private. Also impressed by his responsiveness over booking.com messaging platform.

The service as this Ryokan was 10/10, and was the most authentic one we stayed in during our 4 weeks in Japan.
The staff were so lovely, and spoke great English. They showed us to our room, and gave us essentially a "room tour" whilst we drank complimentary tea. They gave us a map with nearby restaurants and ammenties noted on it.
The private outdoor onsen was SO nice! You book a slot upon arrival, which you can access in the evening with 30 min slots. The onsen was large and the perfect contrast with the fresh cool air in the evening.
Yukatas were provided for us as an option to wear around the hotel - both my partner and I are bigger than the average Japanese person (Wife is plus size, I am 6ft 2) and we both comfortably fit into the ones picked out for us.
The only thing that threw us was that during breakfast, they cleared the beds from our room - had we known people would go in, we'd probably have neatened the room a bit haha!
P.S don't skip the sushi restaurant a few doors down from the hotel. The sushi was EXQUISITE and they even have a phonetic Japanese to English page at the front so you can have a go at ordering properly with the chef.

At Daymaruya Ryokan, guests can enjoy hot-spring baths and traditional Japanese-style accommodations with free wired internet access. A free shuttle is available from Yudanaka Train Station, which is a 5-minute drive away. Our host went above and beyond to accommodate us and our limited itinerary. He offered to take care of our luggages and drove us straight to the snow monkey park entrance. He even recommended great spots for sake tasting, drinks and snacks. He went and fetched us after park hours went we still weren't back, we didn't even have to ask. Unfortunately, we missed him as we didn't received his messages so give him you number or always check your messages. They lent us yukatas which we used while we leisurely stroll the nice onsen village.

All guests have access to the on-site hot spring public baths, and they can be reserved for private use. (please inquire at the front desk for more information.) The hosts were really kind and helpful in every respect picking up or dropping off at the station. The breakfast and evening meal were delicious examples of traditional Japanese food. The two onsens were the best we have used in Japan especially after a really cold day outside on the mountain. The beds were really comfy and cosy even in cold weather. Loved all the other little touches.

Best food on our trip - the host catered two delicious veggie meals for us with an amazing variety of japanese food in a beautiful tatami room. Still dreaming of it! The private onsen was a blast and our tatami room had cute chairs, traditional clothing to wear in the guesthouse and comfortable futons. They picked us up at the train station and drove us directly to the monkey park. Getting back from there by bus was easy. We were also driven to the train station next morning.
Japanese style room was beautiful and came with yukatas and traditional tea to enjoy. The Onsen was super relaxing and had an outdoor hot spring too. Super affordable and they have a souvenir shop there as well which is reasonable. There is also a cafe/diner next door. The view was great of the mountains and the river. The staff were lovely and friendly. They took us to the Snow Monkey Park free of charge and then also helped us with bus times as we were travelling. Couldn't recommend enough!
There are not enough words to explain our experience at Yorozuya. We got to know the Ryokan hospitality by first hand. The employees were very respectful and considerate, the food experience one that nobody should miss and the Onsen facilities great. Room was clean and spacious and the futon bed comfy. This experience definitely changed our perception about hospitality for ever. Thank you Yorozuya!
The room was the traditional style Ryokan, large space with comfortable futons and seating area. A heater was provided. The hotel had a private onsen (but it was Very hot). The late check-in was useful and the staff were friendly.
Lovely Ryokan, the room was very spacious and the tatami and futon super comfortable. We enjoyed the onsen and the private onsen too! The owners are helpful, kind and friendly. Thanks for having us!
Great location, in house restaurant for breakfast and dinner, traditional Japanese Ryokan. Despite being a tatami mat with futons, the bedding was extremely comfortable. Free bus pick up from train station as well as free bus drop off to Snow Monkey park. Staff were very helpful and provided lots of information about what to do and how to do it. Shared bathroom facilities were quite basic but OK. The bonus is the key to the public onsens, all 9 of them.
Loved the traditional Ryokan. Cosy rooms with comfy futon style beds. We had a room at the front with an indoor balcony that overlooked the street. Had breakfast and dinner at the restaurant, which was great. Staff were really friendly, helpful and spoke English. They supplied Yukata and geta to wear out to the onsen - the closest was only 50 meters up the road.
traditional Japanse ryokan including onsen and sleeping on tatami floors and futon beds. staff is warm welcoming and willing to go the extra mile for you (gives a ride to entrance monkey park, source of great info)
Beautiful old ryokan with super friendly and helpful team; quality service (the pickup from the train station, the drive to the monkey park); delicious food and superb cappuccino. Really enjoyed the traditional rooms (sleeping on futons) and the relaxed atmosphere in the ryokan. And not to forget: access to the 9 onsen baths as a guest of the ryokan. Try them all, walking towards them in traditional Japanese yukata and gets. Enjoyed every second of being here!
