The owner, Sato-san, welcomed me like a friend and we immediately walked the few meters to the sea to fish and catch sea shells. He then cooked the seafood, as only a master chef could, into a delicious supper. The building has been beautifully (and tastefully) renovated to find a balance between modern comfort and historic character. This guesthouse is just the beginning of a visionary project for the village.

Katsuzakikan, a property with a garden, is set in Tsubata, 15 km from Kanazawa Castle, 15 km from Kenrokuen Garden, as well as 15 km from Kanazawa Station. There is an in-house restaurant, plus free private parking and free WiFi are available. The ryokan has family rooms. The place was great. The environment was stunning, and the public bath was awesome. The dinner and breakfast were incredible. Though the staff don't speak english, they do their best to accompany you through your stay.

Rooms all offer ocean views and a tatami (woven-straw) with a low table and seating cushions. Some rooms have traditional futon bedding, and all are fitted with a fridge and an LCD TV. A safe is provided, and female guests can choose a colourful yukata robe to borrow. Located in a lovely little bay with amazing views, we had the most pleasant stay. The food was extraordinary! The possibility of selecting one or more differently patterned Yukatas for every day of the stay was a nice extra.

Serene Japanese-style rooms boast ocean views from a seating area at floor-to-ceiling windows, and feature a tatami (woven-straw) floor and traditional futon bedding. An LCD TV, safe and yukata robes are provided, while the attached bathroom comes with toiletries. The building is obviously aged, and we were concerned what the room might be like when we first saw the carpets in the corridors (which need an upgrade) but were pleasantly surprised with the room given previous ratings and reviews. The traditional dinner was an amazing experience. Customer service wonderful.

The rain falling and sea splashing made the hot bath extremely memorable.
