Few reasons we chose to stay in Tamakiya:
-It locates in a countryside helps us slow down a bit and enjoy the snowy nature.
-Great experience while enjoying the in-room Onsen + seeing snowing right in front of us.
-Tamakiya offers some great food, both nights we selected the French cuisine with wine, sake pairing. The food was delicious and Yuichi-san shared his marvelous sake pairing technique by bubbling it, added an extra favoring in which the goal is to refine our tasting journey. Of course traditional kanzake (warm sake) was served too during the dinner course.

Yuzawa
Surrounded by the natural beauty of the Mount Tanigawa, Hotel Futaba lies on the high plains of the historical Echigo-Yuzawa Onsen hot spring area. It offers comfortable Japanese rooms with private bathing facilities, as well as indoor and outdoor baths with splendid mountain views. Room: Traditional Japanese Style. It has a seating area with a view to the mountain. The bathroom has a shower and bath, both. The toilet has its own door so it's separated. Additional bedding in the closet can be used. It's very spacious for a couple. Daily local snacks and hotel newsletters in the room - they are also sold in the hotel store in case you like it. Although it's an older hotel, it's very organized and clean - it gives homey feelings. Hot Springs (Public bath): 28 different styles in two floors, indoor and outdoor. Being in an outside hot spring with a view to the mountain when it's snowing is super comfy. 24 hours access to at least a few. Service: There are robes (Yukata) with many different sizes - it can accommodate tall people. Women have even more options, colorful ones. Transportation to/from Yuzawa JR train station is available. Staff is very friendly. Some may not speak English, but we didn't expect that they would as we are in their country and we should be the ones trying to speak their language. We didn't experience any difficulties due to language. Breakfast: Many options with chefs cooking on site, such as making grilled fish and omelet. The coffee cups are tiny, but you can use the ones at the western style breakfast session (it has bread and cold milk on the table), and then you will have a small American size coffee. Location: In the center of the town, walking distance to train station, ski resort, and restaurants. We love it and will visit again!

Room overlooking the nice mountain and Yuzawa. The free boots for guess to use is really a godsend to venture in snow during winter

Yukinohana is a really nice Ryokan. It has some yukata that you can wear around the hotel, and also has 3 nice private onsen that you don't need to pay extra for or book in advance, so if you have tattoos, you can still bathe! It also has really clean, comfy rooms, and some free ice cream in the afternoons, plus free half-sized ramen in the evenings! It also has a delicious traditional Japanese breakfast. My friend and I spent our entire stay in the hotel, other than briefly going out for dinner.
Amasing place with gentle owners, nice and cute japanese vintage style, bright rooms with yukatas, beautiful onsen space with clear hot water, near the nature with excellent connection with City Center by bus or walking, big 7/11 convenient store near. We really really recommend- warto to book afajn for sure. Many many thanks for Owners! m(_ _)m :)))
The atmosphere was great and very traditional. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The traditional breakfasts and dinners were amazing. Also they had a several Onsen options from private to public. We would stay again if we came to the myoko Kogan region.
This is a small ryokan with ensuite toilets in every room run by a friendly and obliging elderly couple in great location 1km from Alpenblick skifield and 400m from Alpenblick spa with its famous black water pools and great Japanese restaurant. There is not a shared bathroom in the western sense, but a simple but authentic private onsen in house. The hot water and teabags and snacks in the corridor were much appreciated as was the hot drink and biscuits at reception on returning from skiing .
The size of the rooms was excellent with a nice view of the mountains. There were plenty of facilities with a wine bar, coffee shop, restaurants, and a games room for the kids. The onsens (hot springs were fantastic, both inside and outside. Situated in a very convenient location, close to the ski resort and restaurants. This is an excellent hotel, highly recommended 👌
We get the full experience of a traditional tatami room with Futons for beds. The room was cozy, place was clean and the internet was fantastically fast and reliable. Air conditioning and electric heater was provided as it can get very cold.
Traditional tatami may rooms are very clean and roomy and a great experience. Futon beds are as comfortable as a western bed. The breakfast is fantastic. Easy walk to all restaurants.
Great sized room with stunning views. We had the traditional futon to sleep on which was surprisingly comfortable. Staff were super friendly and helpful. It was great being able to grab a yummy breakfast before starting the day. Excellent location, walking distance to ski lifts and the main street. I didn't use the onsen but a few travel companions did and said it was fantastic.
the traditional room was spacious, and has a great view of the mountains. you can experience the Japanese lifestyle wearing Yukatas and sleeping on futons which were so comfortable, and you can keep your shoes on all the way to your room. the onsen was great, especially the outside one when it was snowing. the kids had fun in the games room even though it cost me with those skill testers. bars are great too with nice beer on draught.
Old school Japanese (Ryokan) style - tatami mats, futon beds, etc. It was beautiful!
