Located 500 metres from Kintetsu Iseshi Train Station, Hoshidekan Ryokan (a member of the Japanese Inn Group) is a wooden building that was built in the 1920's and provides Japanese-style rooms with free WiFi, an LCD TV and traditional futon bedding. It has shared bath and a courtyard garden. The cool old building around 100 years old. It provide the nostalgic ambience with amazing charm.
Toba
Offering sea views, Ise-Shima Ohtaya Healing Stay is an accommodation situated in Toba, 29 km from Ise Grand Shrine and 29 km from Oharai-machi. There is an in-house restaurant, plus free private parking and free WiFi are available. The ryokan has family rooms. I really like this place. The female owner has an inquisitive mind, a warm personality, and a kind heart. Her English is good enough to communicate and ask for help. The sauna and the private onsen in the room are top-notch. I did not check the public onsen with natural hot spring, but heard it's amazing too. I booked the 5th floor with an ocean view, and the private onsen experience during starry night and the set rise were indeed amazing! The hotel itself is located in a remote little cute fish town called osatsucho, where you can find fishmen and women harvesting and selling the Ise lobsters in the morning by the port. It was a very unique and interesting experience to stay in that little town for two days during the winter when it was not crowded at all. The nearest convenience store is 10 + miles away. It was a very natural, grounding, even retreat-like experience to me, and it was drastically different from my experience in Tokyo, Nayoga, or Osaka. I did spot a few demolished houses with broken windows in the town, not sure if it's because of COVID or during the winter when there were fewer tourists. The big plus is the Shinmei shrine next door to the hotel, which is a very calming and spiritual place to visit and stay for a bit too.
Toba
At Hanashinsui Ryokan, guests can soak in the indoor/outdoor public hot spring baths with a view, enjoy karaoke at a surcharge or purchase souvenirs at the gift shop. A small library and a Sake cellar can also be found on site. A very beautiful Japanese-style inn with an amazing view of the mountains and ocean. The onsen is an absolute delight, especiallywith the nature view. Staff is very friendly and treat you with so much respect, driving you up and down the mountain and providing a free iced drink when you go out.
Ise
Oishiya Ryokan’s air-conditioned Japanese rooms have tatami (woven-straw) floors and futon beds. Each has free broadband internet and a flat-screen satellite TV.
It is served at the kaiseki restaurant NIE or in a separate private room, as well as at the hotel’s Zen Restaurant.
We LOVED the personalised service provided in traditional inns - especially by our caretaker and waitron Yasuyo Ohnishi!
There can be no better location on the seashore within reach of Ise Temple Complex, located on Futiminoura Beach. They will pick you up and drop you off at the closest station and a 100m walk to the beautiful "wedded rocks (at Futamiokitama Shinto Shrine) is worth it even on a hot day!
It was pouring rain when we arrived early so the driver dropped us off a beautifully restored old traditional mansion set in a tranquil zen garden to wait for reception to open at 3pm. We only realised later it's only 3 houses away from the hotel so easily accessible bonus for Oishiya's guests !
The meals (dinner and breakfast was included) was exceptional and extensive with more than 5 courses, each one beautifully arranged in trays and in stunning pottery, served by the lovely and ever helpful Yashyu Ohnishi in her immaculate kimono
Dinner was attended in the Inn's provided kimono's which really added to the experience of Japanese culture we were looking for in a traditional Inn or Ryokan like this.
The private Onsen (hot spring bath) was a great bonus for two shy westerners as was the slightly raised western beds in our beautiful tatami mat room with a view to the ocean and shoji screens (rather than curtains) to manage the light!
It was by far the most pleasant and perfect stay in more than 30 years of travel internationally!
Ise
Conveniently located just a 2-minute walk from Iseshi Train Station, Hinode Ryokan is Japanese-style accommodation with a historic charm. Ise-jingu Shrine’s Geku (outer shrine) is a 5-minute walk away. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property. This is my favorite ryokan on this trip, unbeatable at the same price! A century-old hotel, a century-old building, a century-old style, clean and spacious rooms. One hundred years of experience and thoughtfulness can also be seen in the service of the clerk and the thick instructions on the table. But I didn't expect that the facilities and home appliances are very advanced, such as voice translators, handheld scanners, free washing machines and dryers in the store. The bathroom is clean, the hot spring is comfortable, and the location is next to the train station, super convenient!

Very nice and comfy hotel, worth to stay. Every room have a great view of the graden and ocean. Great experience of japanese hot spring. Food are delicious as well. No doubt would come visit again
Both breakfast and dinner each day were truly lovely. It included interesting local seafood and it was a unique experience for us. The waterfront setting was stunning…being able to walk out on a pontoon over the water right off your bedroom was something you don t see every day. The onsen had a real focus on timber and it was well worth partaking in. Overall our hosts looked after us so well and we were really sad to have to leave.
Futon and pillow were very comfortable. Onsen facilities were good, especially women's rotenbuto.
Really close to the JR station. Great rooms and really friendly staff. A classic Ryokan stay with a sento (onsen) and classic japanese breakfast.
This is a very traditional Japanese stay - Tatami mat floors, screens etc, which are very lovely. Our room had artwork of cranes. Staff are super-helpful and very welcoming, going out of their way to make your visit a good one.
Absolutely beautiful resort on the top of a hill. Amazing ocean views. Tons of stuff for kids like ping pong, games room, even karaoke. Be sure to sit on the open air patio for the ashi-no-yu foot bath. Nice yukatas to wear when you go to onsen. Excellent variety at breakfast buffet. We stayed here after visiting Ise Jingu
Staff were extremely friendly and very accommodating. They were available to answer our questions and provided a wonderful breakfast for us. We had our luggage shipped from Tokyo with Yamato transport and the staff gladly accepted this and had it waiting in our room when we arrived. The onsen was an absolute delight. The ryokan was quiet and the room was very comfortable
Absolutely gorgeous small Japanese inn with all sorts of amenities and services. The house oozes with historic atmosphere. Baths available for guests as well. Comfortable rooms and futons.
Very friendly staff, especially a lovely kind old lady, she even helped me to carry my heavy luggage to the second floor! The location of the hotel is just in front of the sea. The famous Futami Okitama shrine is about less than 10 minutes walk from the hotel. The Japanese inn is rather old and has authentic ryokan style. The room is very clean.
The staff were super attentive, hotel feels modern yet maintaining true to Ryokan aesthetics. The Onsen and Pearl baths are a wonderful experience!
