Its a whole house that we rented. There are 3 rooms, the rooms are spacious, all with tatami floor and futon. There are 3 toilets, washing machine and a private onsen. There is kotatsu, some board games and a super famicom to play with. Kitchen is completed with refrigerator, microwave, stove and utensils, also an electric grill stove to make barbeque. Towel & bathrobe included. The owner is so nice. He gave us free fresh milk for each of us. There was a problem with electric heater and it was around 10 PM when we told him about it, but he immediately came to fix it. It was a really pleasant stay.

After 5 crazy days in Tokyo, i went to Kusastu in order to relax and soak in the thermal hot springs. Staying at Watanoyu Annex was the best decision ever. Miki and her husband run this beautiful establishment (perfect combination of traditional & modern). Miki speaks perfect english and will immediately make you feel warmly welcome. I got lucky enough to get a room facing the river … this relaxing sound would get me to sleep like a baby every night. After visiting all the onsen of Kusatsu, it was always a pleasure to get to the hotel’s onsen for some quiet time before dinner! You would get a fresh set of towel & a yukata (kimono) everyday, as well as a toothbrush & a pair of socks. Finishing with the sauna and cold bath got me so relaxed every time ! Miki’s husband will cook the most incredible breakfast & dinner for you ! Some of the most tasty and poetic meal i’ve ever had… The tasting menu will be printed for you ! Such a nice attention ! I really enjoyed the tiny flower bouquets in every corner of the hotel. So subtle and poetic. The real japonese elegance ! They are really devoted to their business and it shows. I cant wait to come back with my family for some more relax time :)

This 3-star ryokan offers luggage storage space and a housekeeping service. The accommodation provides private check-in and check-out and a shared lounge for guests. This ryokan was the highlight of our trip to Japan. Excellent seasonal and varied breakfast options, with an attention to detail unparalleled in my travel experience. The soaking pools met our hopes and needs perfectly, and we preferred the private rooms to any of the town’s public onsens. Our room was very comfortable and quiet, and the location was great—away from the hustle and bustle of the main square. Staff were incredible—helpful, welcoming, and friendly despite our limited Japanese language skills! Would highly recommend for a quiet, peaceful stay.

Minakami
Located along Houshi River, Houshi Onsen Chojukan features a public hot spring bath, Japanese-style accommodations with free Wi-Fi and Japanese cuisine. A wooden building stemming from 100 years ago, the property breathes a historical atmosphere. This place is just on the top of my ranking. A real Japanese experience with all the necessary detail to make the stay unforgettable. The different baths super clean and with history. The meals offered were delightful. And the environment just as needed, calm, serene and peaceful.
Ikaho Onsen, Shibukawa
The air-conditioned rooms have tatami (woven-straw) floors and Japanese futon bedding. A flat-screen TV, a fridge and an electric kettle with green tea bags are included in each. The en suite bathroom comes with a hairdryer. Oyado Tamaki is the perfect cozy getaway, with a welcoming atmosphere and staff who attend to every detail. From the warm greeting with yuzu tea to their helpfulness throughout our stay, the service was impeccable (5/5). Our “Kaede” room had a semi-open-air bath that was incredibly relaxing after a day of exploring. The ambiance is peaceful—especially in the lounge and courtyard—and the ryokan itself beautifully balances traditional Japanese hospitality with modern touches. There were some live Japanese beetles on display (in clearly marked glass jars) near the front desk and, even though the whole stay was great, that was a true unexpected treasure for me! We’ll definitely be returning for the exceptional hospitality and cozy vibe!

Exceptional hospitality and service at this ryokan. Fairly easy to find and access the bus. The meals and breakfasts were perfect and they give you a wide array of food based on your choice. The rooms were of traditional Japanese style and the whole place was clean. The private onsens were spot on and amazing to relax in while looking up at the mountains and easy to access.

As usual great dinner, this time in the tatami room and not the restaurant, made it even better. It doesn't feel crowded even though a lot of rooms were reserved. Onsen was perfect. A must stay in the Takasaki area.
Shuttle from train station. Friendly staff. Traditional experience. Provided with yukata, swimwear and slippers for stay. Food was beautiful. Onsen are exceptional. Scenery is unbelievable.
Everything was perfect, the food, the onsen, the rooms, the staff. A real traditional ryokan. Highly recommended
Me and my friends stayed at this lovely ryokan for one night. We enjoyed our spacious room and the private and public Onsen hot springs of the hotel. The hotel is located in a nice central spot which is great for exploring Kusatsu Onsen. The food and services were good.
It was a beautiful stay and our first experience at a ryokan. We were made to feel very special from the moment we arrived, until the time we checked out. The meals were lovely. Lots of interesting things to try for both dinner and breakfast and dressed in the provided yukatas. We loooooved our private onsen in our room and also tried two of the three private onsens on site which can be used by any guest pending availability. Beautiful views! The town is also lovely but be prepared for the sulfur smell from the hot springs!
Western style room was great! The tatami room had ample room for several futons, in addition to a couple beds outside the tatami room. Open concept with sliding doors was great for our group (6 people) so we can chat and hangout freely, and slide the doors shut at night for privacy. Breakfast was good. The outdoor onsen was really nice.
Kusatsu is a beautiful town, built around a hot spring. The hotel (ryokan) was located 2 blocks from the central area - well within easy walking distance. It was a perfect town and hotel for a 24-hour visit. Lots of stores and artisanal food in town. At the hotel, we enjoyed the public onsen as well as an hour in a private room. The kaiseki (multi-course) dinner was excellent as was the breakfast.
Rooftop onsen was gorgeous. If you're reserving make sure to get it while there is still light to view the mountains. If not you can use the gendered sides anytime during their open hours. Staff was exceptional. Spacious rooms with tatami floors. The full ryokan experience in a classic onsen town. 10/10
Room was large, enjoyed the provided yukata and the Ryokan exclusive onsens.
The location was lovely, the grounds were beautiful, and the staff was bilingual and very friendly, and the private onsen was extremely nice. The futons were quite comfortable and I loved having baskets and yukatas available to take around town.
