Among the facilities of this property are a restaurant, a 24-hour front desk and a shared kitchen, along with free WiFi throughout the property. The ryokan has family rooms and facilities for disabled guests. Excellent room with comfortable blankets which were perfect for the winter cold. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout, giving great advice regarding transport and offering a shuttle service for 1500 yen per person for both ways. The location is a little out the way, but you'll probably be staying here for the tranquility rather than what it offers nearby. In terms of the food, both the dinner and breakfast were great. The dinner offered sukiraki beef with tofu and vegetable tempura. There was plenty to eat and enough for a big eater like myself to feel full. Breakfast was similarly well made with enough to feel like lunch should be a bit later then usual. There was also complimentary snacks, tea, coffee as well as a small setup with a mini PS1 and famicom. We didn't end up using that, but it was nice that it was there. The area around is quiet, with a bit more time I think the rental bikes would have allowed us to go further afield but its winter and it's cold. We walked about around the area, had some really nice views of takasaki especially in the evening as the lights of the city come on. Beds provided were exceptional. The duvet cover was smooth on the skin and the duvet was extremely fluffy. Perfect for winter. Bathroom was clean, well maintained with good water temperature and excellent water pressure. Oh, and the koi in the pond were spectacular.

Minakami
Located along Houshi River, Houshi Onsen Chojukan features a public hot spring bath, Japanese-style accommodations with free Wi-Fi and Japanese cuisine. A wooden building stemming from 100 years ago, the property breathes a historical atmosphere. Exceptional & best onsen experience at the heritage onsen bath. All 3 public onsen are beautifully crafted in old wood and very well maintained with their original status. Having visited many onsen in Japan, their largest bath was truly something that I would never forget. It's also very nice that they have men/women/mix time schedule that balanced both tradition & modern needs.
Ikaho Onsen, Shibukawa
The air-conditioned rooms have tatami (woven-straw) floors and Japanese futon bedding. A flat-screen TV, a fridge and an electric kettle with green tea bags are included in each. The en suite bathroom comes with a hairdryer. Everything was good/amazing.

Boasting hot spring baths in a spectacular outdoor setting by Takaragawa River, Japanese-style hotel Takaragawa Onsen Osenkaku is a 10-minute drive from Hodaigi Ski Resort. It offers free Wi-Fi at the lobby and a free station transfer. The hot baths 'onsen', where beautifully designed and well positioned next to the river. The whole setup with the baths and hotel next to it looked like it came out of a Japanese traditional movie. It was absolutely beautiful and nourishing to be there. The dinner was really great, breakfast looked like dinner :D. The staff was friendly and caring and helped rearrange some dinner times so we could eat together with the friends we travelled with. We bought some pretty yukata's as a souvenir to take home.
Naganohara
Boasting an open-air bath and views of garden, Yamakikan is a ryokan set in a historic building in Naganohara, 48 km from Usui Pass Railway Heritage Park. Built in 17th century, the property includes hot spring bath and public bath. The ryokan also features free WiFi, free private parking and facilities for disabled guests. We’ve stayed at many ryokan since living in Japan for two years and this was one of our favorites! It’s a pretty property run by the 15th generation owner. We had a very large room and a private dining room but the ryokan was not very large, so it didn’t feel crowded. The meals are beautiful and healthier than other ryokan as they serve The freshest vegetables from nearby farms and cook it in a “modern furnace”. They also include all you can drink sake, beer and wine with dinner! The onsen were also wonderful.

My room was large and comfortable. I slept extremely well on the futon and had delicious breakfast and dinner at the hotel. The hotel is located near the Sainogawara park towards one end of the town so it is very convenient to visit the park and public onsen there. The hotel’s own onsen was great too with an indoor and outdoor pool
The onsen is world-class and is just a spectacular experience in general. It is the defining feature of this Ryokan/Hotel. If there is any reason to come here, the onsen is second to none and the all the rest of the considerations takes a back seat.
Of course the Onsen (Natural hot spring baths) were wonderful. The restaurant is also very good and the buffet style allowed us to try many different dishes.
I loved the Japanese-style ryokan. It was very spacious. Lovely meals and complimentary treats were everywhere. I also loved the outdoor private onsen. Free shuttle services. Accommodating and friendly staff.
It was a beautiful stay and our first experience at a ryokan. We were made to feel very special from the moment we arrived, until the time we checked out. The meals were lovely. Lots of interesting things to try for both dinner and breakfast and dressed in the provided yukatas. We loooooved our private onsen in our room and also tried two of the three private onsens on site which can be used by any guest pending availability. Beautiful views! The town is also lovely but be prepared for the sulfur smell from the hot springs!
Western style room was great! The tatami room had ample room for several futons, in addition to a couple beds outside the tatami room. Open concept with sliding doors was great for our group (6 people) so we can chat and hangout freely, and slide the doors shut at night for privacy. Breakfast was good. The outdoor onsen was really nice.
Kusatsu is a beautiful town, built around a hot spring. The hotel (ryokan) was located 2 blocks from the central area - well within easy walking distance. It was a perfect town and hotel for a 24-hour visit. Lots of stores and artisanal food in town. At the hotel, we enjoyed the public onsen as well as an hour in a private room. The kaiseki (multi-course) dinner was excellent as was the breakfast.
Rooftop onsen was gorgeous. If you're reserving make sure to get it while there is still light to view the mountains. If not you can use the gendered sides anytime during their open hours. Staff was exceptional. Spacious rooms with tatami floors. The full ryokan experience in a classic onsen town. 10/10
Room was large, enjoyed the provided yukata and the Ryokan exclusive onsens.
The location was lovely, the grounds were beautiful, and the staff was bilingual and very friendly, and the private onsen was extremely nice. The futons were quite comfortable and I loved having baskets and yukatas available to take around town.
