The environment and atmosphere was super good. The owners were very friendly and introduced the area and gave us guides on the area. The public bath was clean and good with a very good view for the outdoor area.

Set in Yoshino, 43 km from Nara Station, Hounkan provides accommodation with a sauna and a public bath. The 2-star ryokan features mountain views and is 39 km from Subaru Hall. The ryokan also offers free WiFi, free private parking and facilities for disabled guests.

The Hounkan Inn is an excellent Ryokan situated on the upper rings of Yoshino Town, offering an exclusively "Japanese" experience in terms of accommodation (Spacious Tatami Rooms), Scenery (Maple Leaves in the Fall, Cherry Blossoms in the Spring) and Cuisine (A set Japanese course menu for Breakfast and Dinner with no idea what you're gonna get, but you'll enjoy nonetheless!). A fantastic choice for first-time travelers to Yoshino and for any potential Hikers who wish to experience all the beauty and splendor of the Japanese Forest Mountains. Yoshino itself is a UNESCO sanctioned location offering exquisite Shrines all over the Mountain with non-stop spectacular snapshots of scenery for all seasons. I got to see it in the Autumn but I can only imagine if you were to be there during Spring as its Cherry Blossom central. But be warned, the Staff taught us that to get that you have to book MONTHS in advance so if that is on your wish-list, get cracking early! The Inn also has their local celebrity mascot - a gorgeous and friendly Shiba Inu named Waka! A comforting presence after a day of sightseeing or hiking when in Yoshino.

This was a beautifully kept room in a homey guesthouse. This was my only experience at a ryokan, staying at a string of hotels in the rest of my stay, and the quiet, private and genial hospitality was a delightful change.

The room at this ryokan was exactly what was expected. The staff was friendly and the property was adequate. I did enjoy the reserve system for using the hot tub as I was staying alone. The location was very convenient as it was at the start of the trail and near the train station.

Great location with a short hike up the hill taking you to Yoshino's main street.. The staff/owners were very friendly and helpful and the food was great. The onsen was also nice, if possibly a bit small if more people had been there. It was perfect for us though as they were not busy.

The owner and staff are very kind and caring. The woman who serves the meals was great and took time to help us understand what all the varieties of food were. It is a great traditional japanese inn experience with a nice onsen and good quality meals. The location has great views as well, it would be excellent during cherry blossom season.

Heritage building in an incredible temple garden setting unlike any Ryokan I have stayed at. Definitely a unique place with excellent food and a great bath house with Cedar tub.

Stunning small and very traditional Japanese house in Yoshino. Quite far up a hill so you have a nice view over the river and the city. Looks very well-kept and is clean. Loved the tatami bedroom and the futons. Absolutely amazing and very authentic Japanese experience, I would definitely recommend staying there and would love to go there again!!! I am repeating myself 😃 but it truly was stunning. The owner was super nice and answered quite fast to messages.
