Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaIt was a little annoying that the pool closes for an hour each afternoon to set up for dinner. This happens around 5 PM and it re-opens for adult only swim after. Unfortunately, this occasionally coincided with us returning from our daily activities and the pool was closed or closing when what we really wanted was a swim and a drink by the pool before getting ready to go out for the evening.
The Surferjack was a great hotel with a boutique feel. It's smaller and therefore more personal than some of the massive hotels in the area. I stayed here for 11 nights and the staff were friendly, the pool was a lovely spot to chill out and the hotel just had a great vibe. The rooms were nice and live music in the evenings added great atmosphere. There were lots of restaurants, bars and shops within a 5 min walk. Overall the hotel was great value.

United StatesIt is a slightly older hotel (but that is the whole point of a vintage place)! Otherwise, we were very happy with our stay.
This small boutique hotel was a pleasant surprise for our stay in Oahu. This hotel was truly an excellent value. They host weekly and nightly events, the staff are more than welcoming and accommodating, and it is extremely well located within Waikiki. Any time we left the hotel, it was only a 10 minute walk to the beach and shopping. We had plans for dinner in the area but opted to stay at the hotel for the live music and stellar happy hour. The rooms were not over the top but met all of our needs and we even received a surprise upgrade for our group - so we were more than happy with our stay. Service came daily and our room was clean, quiet, and comfortable upon arrival. 10/10 would recommend.

United StatesIf you want to stay right on the beach and just relax, this wouldn’t be my pick.
The Surfjack was perfect for our trip! We wanted to explore the island, hike, swim, snorkel, relax, and eat great food. The Surfjack helped us do all of that. $10 parking, towels and beach chairs to use, a nice pool to come back and relax in, a clean, comfy, and stylish room. Super kind and helpful staff.

United KingdomThe cafe closes at 2pm so get the coffees in at lunch
The vibe is fantastic, way better than the larger resort places. The pool was clean and pretty quiet most of the time. The coffee shop attached was great. The live music each night over the pool was a nice touch. The rooms were clean modern and much more stylish than a generic Hilton or Marriott or whatever room.

AustraliaWe had a hire car and booked this hotel for a number of reasons including the availability of a car parking spot - but our hire car did not fit under the low clearance in the off site parking complex that the hotel uses. This was a significant and costly inconvenience and think this key height restriction information should be readily available in booking info and when contacting the hotel directly about car spots.

AustraliaIt can be a struggle to secure one of the tables at the bar/restaurant if you haven't booked, which felt a little disappointing as a paying guest. Maybe try and squeeze a few more tables around the pool?!
Located right in the heart of Waikiki, this hotel is a more affordable option compared with hotels closer to the beach, and is better in just about every other respect: cool vibe, hip furnishings, young friendly staff, excellent restaurant and bar, a good cafe next door serving decent flat whites, nice design (retro motel feel around a central swimming pool but with sweet music, and even market stalls one evening). Stay back from the over-commercialised beach strip and you get a better deal and more atmosphere.

United KingdomThe only thing we didn’t like was the sofabed which was pretty uncomfortable, but the rest of the room was perfect.
We loved the Surfjack, the location, rooms, food and facilities are great. The live entertainment each evening is amazing. We were visiting from the UK so didn’t have our dogs with us but we loved seeing lots of others in the hotel.
