Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SingaporeThis isn't a deal-breaker, but I have so spoilt by key cards that I was not very comfortable with the old fashioned keys to the rooms!
The gentleman at the check-in counter was lovely - he was polite, welcoming, and provided all the information I needed for checking in and checking out. He also helped me put in a reservation for dining at the inn's restaurant the same evening I checked in. The lobby/reception area is charming and very comfortable. I particularly liked the rocking chairs where I could just sit with a drink and chill. My room is beautifully decorated in the old New England style, and very comfortable.

United StatesThe food was a big disappointment. Getting to the room was a challenge and was risky business after dark. Unpaved walkways with no illumination made this routine task a little difficult
The hotel has historic significance and the location was a factor in our selection

United StatesFood was disappointing and expensive. The walk from the hotel to the room over unpaved and un-illuminated paths was unsettling and prone to falls and accidents when dark.

CanadaThe Inn is on the Main street. I am a light sleeper and found the street traffic noise disturbing. However, I would definitely stay again and ask for an inside room.
The Inn is wonderful. Beautiful furnishings. Every inch of the place is filled with antiques. It is like stepping back in time. They even still have telephone booths!

United StatesCarrying our luggage from the back of the back parking lot. It isn't easy when doing so, to find out how to get back into the Inn. The various taxes added to our bill.
The room was small but comfortable. Breakfast was excellent in the very nice dining room. The old-fashioned atmosphere of the Inn is a welcome change from Marriott, etc.

United StatesNot quite as clean as it was when we were there in 2010. Could use some TLC. Also, although we booked to include our small dog, the staff chastised me for not calling ahead to let them know. Third party billing … he said, with a shake of his head. This was how we were greeted. I felt uncomfortable and worried they’d cancel our reservation. Not a good way to start off our much anticipated holiday. As for dinner … the prime rib was good but very cold. The popover had zero warmth. And at 40.00 dollars a plate I feel it should have been served warm. My husband’s was mostly fat. I still love Red Lion. The rest of the staff was friendly and accommodating, we especially enjoyed the pub and the morning coffee.
Great location and wonderful history. Hot tub was an unexpected bonus and felt wonderful after a nine hour drive. The bar was fun and the barkeeper was superb!

United StatesThe warm water on the faucet never seemed to get warm- even waiting over minute- same for shower, rooms were very warm and trouble regulating temperature- needed to open windows; getting screen down was difficult. Alcohol is very expensive
Breakfast was delicious, rooms nice size, historic setting, friendly staff, Jane and Jack, dinner at the tavern was delicious. Decor is great, coffee in morning is greatly appreciated. Lovely shops and great location

United StatesThe room rates have been, sadly creeping up.
II have stayed at the Red Lion Inn many times over the years and enjoyed it very much. It is a very historic New England inn without high room rates that many of them charge. The dinner was very good and in a classic dining room and the tavern was very nice.
