Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThe hallway carpet between the hotel rooms needs a refresh. Stains are showing. Otherwise the wall paper and wood accents around the doors were lovely.
Very well executed including room service. Same quality as eating downstairs in the bar.

United StatesMy one and only dislike was the wedding music heard in our room on the Saturday night only. There are many weddings at this hotel and the weekends are busy and active. Maybe the higher floors do not hear the music, not sure! Everything else was perfect!
This was the first time staying at this hotel. It exceeded our expectations for these reasons. The location is in the center of Boston. The Public Garden is across the street. The subway lines are easily accessible but most of all the staff (everyone we encountered) went out of their way to accommodate your needs or requests. The hotel rooftop restaurant, Contessa, is first class, pricey but worth the treat! The bar area is the perfect spot with great views of Boston and just a happening spot. The food was very good. The lounge bar on the first floor has great Public Garden views if you sit at the window (great for people watching) and the food and service is outstanding. The rooms were a good size and beds very comfortable. They provided water in cans each day and there is a nespresso coffee machine in each room. We were on the 5th floor in the front of the hotel with a Public Garden view but higher rooms have a better view over the trees. We will definately stay at the Newbury for future Boston trips.

United KingdomMonumentally rude waitress in the Street Bar - staff are clearly not properly trained. I joined my brother and niece at a table. They were waiting for breakfast - I ordered a pot of tea. The waitress took forever to take my order, came back with an empty cup and delivered herself of a jaw droppingly rude lecture about how it was a table for two people, not three and essentially I should not he sitting there but she would make an exception and allow me to. She should have offered to move us to a bigger table. Fifteen minutes later my tea had not arrived, we left, and my brother was presented with a bill which included the tea. He asked for it to be removed from the bill - they refused. No apology for poor and rude service. This fell well below the standard I would expect of a hotel such as this - it was truly appalling.
Excellent location, beautiful rooms. Staff on the whole really efficient and polite.

United StatesWe stayed here while visiting colleges with my 17-year-old and 9-year-old. I chose it to balance college shopping with some fun for my little one. The location is perfect across from the public garden and walkable to so many fun parts of Boston. Although the marathon was on our first day, it never felt crowded, and the concierge got us great reservations. Breakfast in the Street Bar was a treat and the service was exceptional (thanks Conch!). Every staff member we spoke with told us their Boston college experiences and we discovered that the concierge went to Tufts for piano. They doted on my kids and absolutely made our trip. Take a moment to notice the art - it was mostly curated from local artists.

United StatesThe lobby was non-existent. Nowhere to sit or wait for a friend. Cost of the hotel was steep, so I guess you get what you pay for. Location is exceptional.
Amazing. Walk into the lobby and the air has a captivating scent—fresh, clean cologne-like. The property was immaculate, the staff was attentive, reception was welcoming, elevators were quiet and smooth.
