Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanySome non-exclusive = common restaurant and bar on the main level/lobby were closed on Mondays (and also Tuesdays I think). It is logical, that fancy restaurants are closed a day or two per week, but the more or less basic bar on the main level?
We had a larger and top floor room, that was great. We could even spot a turtle in the shallow water from there. The Dolphin encounter was expensive but worth it.

China1. Breakfast is a hassle as service is slow and there’s not enough seating to accommodate. There’s often a long wait. 2. The extra charges for pool seating is a drag, especially given how much you pay for staying there.

NigeriaThere was nothing as my expectations were all exceeded.
The location was quite reserved and and well situated. The beach was long and beautiful. The rooms were clean with great view of the ocean. Kahala will easily inspire you to reconnect with nature.

United StatesA handheld shower head would be a plus in this type of hotel. You need a taxi to go in the downtown. Some information on what's close to the hotel would have been appreciated .
It is a quiet place. We had taken two rooms with mountain views, and it was nice to be able to look out over the landscape from the room. The rooms were spacious and clean. The beach is easily accessible and very pleasant, and it's possible to swim without risk. It's a pleasure to see the dolphins playing with the toys provided during shows, especially when they've been forgotten. If you want to go for a walk, it's easy and very pleasant. The nearest shopping center is about a 1/2-hour walk away. The pool is a little small, but the beach makes up for it.

SwitzerlandPool area and pool not that big. Pool restaurant not so well organized. Walking paths to the gym or beach could be more thoughtful. Light could be better in front of the bathroom mirror. For us was a really good 4 star hotel and close to 5 stars compared to asian or arabic 5 star. We can not compare to other 5 star in the US.
Beach and location are really nice. Close to Honolulu to get out but you don't feel like close to the city. Beach very clean and perfect to relax. Rooms are very clean and spacious. Staff is great and very helpful. We do recommend getting dinner at the arancinos, best italian restaurant we've been in the US.

United States1.) Advise guests you have major construction underway in the tower before they book! 2.) Advise guests that "ocean view" may include being situated above check in / valet with great views of parking garage - and where the ocean is in the distance (depending upon which side of the tower your room is in AND the floor your on). This was a shock for us. Perhaps obstructed ocean view would be more accurate. 3.) Since 2021, Hawaii has had laws about "Reef Safe Sunscreens" which delineates the sunscreen ingredients that are allowed. At no point did we ever see any postings (at check in, in the room, at the beach area) for your guests to ensure they are following Hawaiis sunscreen mandate - esp since Kahala is right on the ocean. And while we were at the ocean, we overheard a number of quests complaining about the Hawaii Safe sunscreens and using the sunscreens they brought from home - that lead to bleaching of coral and damage to the ocean. Kahala needs to be more responsible about practicing the edicts of being responsible to the environment that your advertisements preach and advising your guests about Hawaiis Safe Reef Sunscreen laws. 4.) Too many (6 adults) dolphins for the very small lagoons - if you're going to have this tourist attraction in the center of the Kahala hotel property, then have it managed responsible. Regardless of what Dolphin Quest advertises - this is NOT a marine sanctuary and the volume of water available to six full grown dolphins is abysmal. It's like a circus! 5.) Charging $50 a day for parking is ridiculous.
Excellent location; Directly on the beach with few people; choice of restaurants; service was superb with the exception of our check in experience.

United StatesMy main complaint was the breakfast. The vibe of the breakfast restaurant is fantastic with amazing beachside views. We did a la carte one morning, and it was good but slow to come out. We did the buffet the next morning, but we were not impressed with the food quality or the selections, especially considering the price.
Staff was very attentive and hospitable. Very welcoming. Very clean. Feels like luxury. It’s a bit remote, so you have to Uber or drive off the property in order to find other dining options.

United StatesOur toilet was not fully functional when we arrived and after the first night I had to call it in (it was fixed very quickly though!). The drapes were — tattered. Although I didn’t notice this till the second day, so you can see it didn’t get in the way of anything, it was a tad startling that the room was not absolutely ship shape — at the price— but neither of these things stopped us from enjoying the view and the beautiful place.
The ambience and quality of service is exceptional, we love that it is not in Waikiki. We were celebrating our anniversary and got a bottle of champagne comped each night! One of the nights we got a cupcake as well- very delicious!
