Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThe walk to our room was a trek to the other side of the building. The ride service that the hotel uses is not reliable and probably not licensed.
Box House was an impressive building, obviously recently renovated. The staff was quite friendly and generally helpful. The room had all we needed. The lobby area was decorative and open. The 3 Decker Diner was terrific (a little over a mile away).

United KingdomThe only bad thing was the Wi-Fi. It kept disconnecting automatically. It was impossible to remain connected for long on any device. This interrupted my work. If they fixed this, I'd give 10/10!
Great rooms, staff, facilities. In a nice neighbourhood. Loved this hotel.

United StatesThe balcony was so small, that it wasn't really useable
The room was very nice, and the bed was extremely comfortable. The breakfast was ok. Since there isn't anything particularly nearby, I am glad breakfast was included.

AustraliaThe walk over Pulaski Bridge to the subway can be a warm one in the hotter months, but that is really a small thing. The view of the city makes up for it.
Third time staying at The Box House Hotel and it's yet to disappoint. Large (by NY standards) rooms, that are clean and well maintained. All the basic amenities are supplied and the staff are only more than happy to assist with any extra requests. Great location, the subway is just 10 mins walk away, and as the area changes there are more and more food and drink options nearby. Would definitely recommend The Box House Hotel to anyone heading to NY, but looking for a little break from how overwhelming Manhattan can be.

Hong KongGreat design of the space, cozy room, friendly and helpful staff, and nice breakfast. The vibe is just so right and we never felt bored when staying inside the hotel/room. It was a shame we did not have too much time explore the nearby neighborhood, Brooklyn. But we could find many interesting shops and cafes on our walk to Greenpoint. The only thing I can imagine some people may feel not that good is transportation----it is accessible by subway though a walk of 15 minute is required. May not be that convenient for those with a suitcases. Well, we did not have the problem as we only had backpacks. Highly recommend the hotel.

United StatesThe curtains suck what is the point of putting up see through curtains. It makes the room look cheap and waking up at sunrise is not what I want to do on my vacation
the rooms were SO clean. 12/10 I worked in hospitality and that is the biggest thing when I book a hotel. Also the late running breakfast, i have never stayed somewhere were the breakfast went until noon. For that reason alone I would book here again.

The position of the hotel is very good: 10 minutes walk to the metro station and then one stop to Grand Central Station. The breakfast is very good and the room is big, nice and comfortable.

United StatesI did not get the right amount of washcloths each day. Dirty plates were left in my room after cleaning service. My biggest issue was thinking the bed would be larger.
Breakfast was good and staff very friendly and helpful.

United StatesThe loud music
There must have been a wedding or something going on and the music was loud and repetitive, although it was late in the afternoon we had planned on napping when we arrived at the hotel and before we went out for the night. This loud music made that impossible.

The room and balcony were lovely. Staff were incredibly helpful. Loved the location, great local (and more affordable) restaurants, cafes and bars nearby. As a tourist felt like an area people live in and enjoyed getting a window into what that might be like. 10/15 min walk to the subway, easy access to Matthatten and Brooklyn For new york and only booking a couple of months out this properly balanced not being insanely expensive with good reviews and location.

United StatesPaper products- one ply toilet paper, bathroom dispenser towels as napkins, coffee cups that are too flimsy to hold coffee without double cupping. Cheapens the experience of an otherwise boutique hotel.

United StatesThe restaurant inside the hotel The Lantern, was great service, clean, cute and it was a great /idea option to have paid for the breakfast service and it was of substance and not just a junk food breakfast however... we ordered a steak from the restaurant and it gave me a lot of trouble and one of the others who was with me. One person didn't eat the food from The Lantern and the 2 who did (including myself) became violently ill and I will leave precise details out but unfortunately I came there for the premiere of my film that was nominated at the Brooklyn film festival and I missed most of the night from falling ill after eating the hanger steak before going to the party. It was a very expensive trip and stay all to get a food borne illness... this makes me sad and disappointed. It wont keep me from choosing The Box House Hotel again I just wouldn't eat at the restaurant if I come back. We reported this to the front desk and was not offered a discount on the room or even a refund on the meal. I am hoping a manager reaches out to right the wrong.
The staff was exceptional so helpful, and kind and fun. Rooms were clean, comfortable and the terrace was awesome. we were 3 people and our suite with a terrace was awesome for us.
