Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):

When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

United KingdomThey wanted to charge me £75 for allowing me in 1 hour and 15 miniues before the check in time. I would rather they had said the room was not ready. I understand when you arrive 5 hours before check in. However, just over an hour. That could be given complementary, especially when you're checking out at 7.30am, 4 hours before check out.
The room was amazing, comfortable and very spacious.

United KingdomBeautiful Hotel with excellent breakfast. Just a 20 min walk along the pedestrian path over the river (great views of NYC) where there was easy access to the subway and also NYC ferries. If you are happy to climb steps and walk, then this is a great location for a visit to NYC.

AustraliaReception staff were disinterested, unhelpful and resentful. Everything was too much trouble for them, including sharing local knowledge. The only exception was a single encounter with one staff member during my five nights stay and my room wasn’t serviced consistently. My tv didn’t work and wasn’t fixed for two days, without explanation or apology. The only restaurant doesn’t open until after 8am and they don’t replenish the breakfast selection, so there is very little on offer. The rooftop bar is closed to the public AND GUESTS as it is primarily a reception venue, which is not advertised.
The hotel building was funky and fabulous and my huge corner room was beautifully appointed.

Nepal… but right from arrival the staff were disinterested. Even half way through checking in, the girl who was checking me in went to share a birthday cake with one of the other members; leaving me in limbo at the desk for quite some time. If this aspect was improved; the hotel would be a stunning venue.

CanadaThe ladies at the front desk are really not friendly, not sure they like their job. At check-in, the room keys they gave us didn’t work (had not been magnetized) and they didn’t give us the breakfast vouchers, we had to go back and ask for it the next morning. But the worst was when one gave me attitude when I asked for 2 bottles of water at checkout - she looked at me without a smile, didn’t say anything, took her time to go in the back office, then came back with only one bottle and said “I’ll give you one bottle”. Seriously?!? I was so shocked I just took the bottle and thanked her but thinking about it now… How can you be so cheap and make your client feel bad when they just asked for a bottle of water that probably cost you 10 cents - while they paid nearly 500usd a night (we stayed 3 nights)!! Box House, you’re a nice hotel, but you should revisit your customer service :/ I have to say, though, there was one guy that was super nice to me and my partner - so maybe it is a matter of selecting the right staff…

SwitzerlandWe were specifically looking for a more local vibe outside of Manhattan, and this place was a perfect 10/10! Our stay exceeded all expectations. The room was spacious and beautifully decorated—not like the repetitive, cookie-cutter design of big chain hotels, but with real attention to detail. It felt incredibly welcoming and comfortable. We loved waking up every morning to the city view from our balcony. While the location does require a 10-minute walk to the nearest subway stations, it's easy to get anywhere in the city from there. The staff were kind and very helpful throughout our stay. Highly recommended!

United StatesRoom wasn’t ready until an hour after check in time but staff tried hard to accommodate us. Our suite was on second floor with a lot of stairs to climb to get there. I knew there were stairs involved but didn’t realize it would be so many.
Wonderful staff went over and above to ensure a good stay. Delicious breakfast buffet. Room was comfortable, clean and quiet.

United KingdomOne member of Front desk staff very rude and refused to give her name. No opportunity to keep the same towels to save the planet. A large deposit still held on my credit card for ‘incidentals’ In fact this amount was taken twice because I had two bookings. Cardboard cups for tea and not replaced each day. Had to go to reception at 7am for cups as no housekeeping available and apparently no manager on duty on Saturday and manager ‘sick’ on Sunday.

We also found lots of nice local places to eat out (5 to 15mins walk) and tried different places each night. Great value compared to staying in Manhattan.

United StatesIt's NYC (or Brooklyn to be more precise) so I know - to some extent - this comes with the territory, but a middle of the night visit to the bathroom included an encounter with a cockroach. Our ground floor room may have been a factor. I let the front desk staff know and they were very sympathetic and wanted to be responsive (they offered to spray the room, but we didn't want to do during our stay).
It's a very hip, well designed interior. We got upgraded (by a lovely front desk staff person named Denissei) from a regular room to a suite. The suite was incredible - huge (bigger than many apartments), stylish, very comfortable, and with a full kitchen and living room area. A really special room experience. The location is great - tucked away from the main action in Greenpoint, but a couple of blocks from an excellent grocery store (Lincoln Market) and right next to cool ways to view the East River, Newtown Creek, and Manhattan. It's an easy walk to the many great restaurants and fun spots in Greenpoint. Also, the deal they have with the Bellship apartments for parking was affordable and relatively convenient.
