Sweet historical inn with great views and charm whose building needs a thorough cleaning

Our room was clean, but the whole building needs a deep cleaning. The carpets in the halls and stairs are not regularly vacuumed and were not vacuumed at all while we were there from Dec 25-27th. The windows are dirty. There is dust and grime in the corners of bar, floors etc. But most upsetting was that someone was extremely loud and rude above our room #8 that was stomping on floor by 5 a.m. and moved about loudly and incessantly until we gave up at 7:00 a.m. and got up sleep deprived. How this could be improved: Staff could post a framed note in each room that has guest quarters below and remind guests that this inn is historic and, as such, does not have thick floor insulation like steel-built modern hotels and to be mindful of treading lightly on the floor during quiet hours. Overall, it was charming but not sure I would stay again.

The staff were very nice and I loved the charm and old-school feel of this historic building. The breakfast staff was very friendly and cheerful and worked hard. The coffee was GREAT! The bathroom near dining room was very clean. Lovely view from room into the darkness, no disturbing mercury or street lights.

The room was smallish, with no fridge or climate control. We enjoyed the fresh air but had to live with bees flying in and out because there were no screens on the balcony doors.

Charming hotel with a cabin feel. The view from the private balconies is outstanding; one can see over the pines to the San Francisco Bay in the distance. We could see the view from our bed and the shower too. The location is excellent for exploring Muir Woods; there is a trail head right across the street for more experienced hikers and the main parking lot and visitor center is a short (10 minute) drive away.

The room was very small and there is no restaurant service during the week. Requiring a 20 minute drive to get food or a $50+ order in.

The property and rooms were very pretty. The service was great, staff was very helpful and kind.

The price of $350+ a night did not reflect the outdated facilities that are in need of a major facelift. Repair work that has been done in the bathroom was very subpar, wires hung from the wall, the room had a very strange musty smell, window screen was missing, etc. With some painting this could be a gorgeous place.

The inn is at a fantastic location. Hiking just outside. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

There's no microwave, no peephole on the door, the shower does not work well, the toilet does not flush and if it does makes a noise for about 30 mins or more, complimentary breakfast was not ready when it was supposed to be and was not edible. Coffee and tea cups were dirty as well as silverware. Rooms are dusty and have no airflow. There's no overnight staff so you're in the woods basically alone.

Room was down a steep flight of stairs, very small, previous occupant’s underwear and clothing in drawer, heater falling off wall. All furnishings and finishes very tired. Food mediocre. Very short staffed, one server in the evening - unable to deal with questions and requests. One server in the morning, completely overwhelmed.

Location fabulous, unfortunately the weather was cloudy and cool so we didn’t get the benefit from the view or terrace.

I’m truly baffled at the positive reviews this Inn has received. The photos used in the Booking.com listing make the property appear cleaner and more well kept than it is and I deeply regret not taking photos of the room during my stay. Upon entry to the Inn, there are cobwebs and dead flies/hornets/bugs in many areas we passed. The chandelier over the stairs had not been cleaned in some time, since it was covered in cobwebs and dust. The rooms are located on the lower levels of the property, going down one or two flights of stairs for access, which may be cumbersome for those with a lot and/or heavy luggage. We stayed in room 10. The keys used to enter the rooms are very finicky. Entering the room you’re immediately met with a closet and a tight left turn to access the room. The room, while spacious and bright, is very dated and desperately in need of a refresh. The bedding canopy was covered in cobwebs both over and under the canopy, the fabric headboard clearly had not been cleaned in years, if at all, so you can see the remnants of bodily stains from those who stayed there during the years. The mattress must have been replaced recently as it was fairly comfortable. One of the bedside table lamps did not work, however all of the outlets did work. The porch area was nice upon first glance, yet there were spiderwebs everywhere. With an accompanying dead plant it makes for a creepy view. There is a substantial gap in the bottom of the doors leading to the porch which allows for bugs of all kinds to get in. While this inn is in a wooded area, I should not have to spend the majority of my stay killing bugs. To add, there are stains on the walls from prior bug killings. Not really a good look. Walls most definitely need a wash and a fresh coat of paint.

The views and the convenient location to our destinations in the area.

Very, very rustic. Old historic inn, with carpeting, stairs and bathrooms in need of refurbishment. No phone and front desk is rarely manned. The drive up the mountain is dangerous and winding.

The hotel rooms were extremely difficult to find. The hallways smelled bad. The lady at front desk couldn’t find our key and had to go get one. The room was open as soon as we got to the room. The room wasn’t as clean or as nice as it was pictured on the website and I feel it is overpriced for the experience you get. For check out, staff had seen us attempting to check out and go to our continental breakfast and was ignored for 30 minutes. We ended up leaving and leaving a note behind to let them know we checked out. Definitely will not be staying again, but at least the food was good for dinner time and the view was pretty.

The property location was great. It was in an area away from the city and the view was beautiful.

The lady that welcome us for the lodging was super nice. We arrived one hour prior the check-in and apparently the room wasn't ready. When it was time to check-in (3:00 PM) we arrived to our room to an unlocked and opened door and the bed obviously was used by someone prior our entry. We addressed the situation and the staff took care of it in a short delay. Apparently a guest from maybe the restaurant used it. Sadly after they changed the bed with new sheets we reentered the room and we saw that a towel from the bathroom was used and also the toilet but we decide not to complaint about it. So the cleaning crew need to make sure they locked the door after cleaning since customers from the restaurant may use the room for their needs.

We had late light lunch, dinner and breakfast at the restaurant. The staff at the restaurant were welcoming and working hard and the food was good. The location is great and the view is super nice.
