Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesI liked everything!
The property is gorgeous! Our room was incredible. The staff very cordial. Our every need was taken care of daily. When we needed our car, the valet had it in front of the hotel in minutes. The close proximity to restaurants, shops, etc., is right out our door. And, a short 10 minute drive to the Biltmore Estate. And, if I haven’t said it enough..our room was spectacular!

United StatesSome of the front desk employees aren’t the friendliest. Very few of them would even give you a smile or hello. One young man was extremely rude to my husband on 2 separate occasions when asking simple questions. He treated my husband like he was stupid and beneath him and gave him dirty looks while huffing because he couldn’t be bothered to be asked for information. If you want return guests you should get friendlier front desk employees. When there are people that are visiting from another state and need information or help with something, your “customer service” should service your customer without treating them like they’re an inconvenience.
Beautiful and very clean. Extremely large rooms. Great location for walking to shops, restaurants and coffee shops. The valets were great. Very friendly and helpful. They have much better attitudes than most of the front desk employees.

United StatesOur room was on the second floor. Faced a back alley lined with dumpsters and faced a solid brick wall. Has to be the worst view I have ever had at any hotel anywhere. The garbage trucks started picking up the dumpsters at 5:30AM with the constant beep, beep, beep. The hotel did not appear to be full and do not know why they would have given us such terrible rooms.
Great location. Comfortable beds. Helpful staff.

United StatesDisliked · Nothing,
A truly remarkable hotel! We had an amazing stay thanks to Bill's excellent customer service! The hotel was gorgeous! It had a 20s/30s vibe with Jazz live music and great decor. I felt like I had stepped back in time. The hotel is authentically restored with themed floors of the department store that once resided there. I loved everything about this hotel! Thanks to Bill at the front desk who was extremely helpful and gave us a beautiful room with a view of downtown Asheville. The room was spacious, well furnished, and clean with really compfortable beds (even the fold out couch bed was comfy). The bathroom and the tub were amazing, as well.

The hotel was gorgeous! It had a 20s/30s vibe with Jazz live music and great decor. Thanks to Bill at the front desk (who should be promoted to manager) for being so accomodating and upgraded our room after we had issues with our first room. The room was so big, well funished, and clean with really compfy beds and big window with a great view of downtown Asheville. It was truly a memorable stay! We will be back!

United StatesI love the decor, large rooms, comfy bed, courteous staff, and excellent location. I absolutely love the restoration and attention to details relating to the building’s history of being a department store dating back to the 1920’s. We were fortunate enough to be there on the evening of a live jazz swing band performance, and it was amazing!

United StatesThe front desk staff were disengaged, inattentive, and at times even rude and unprofessional. Both of our card keys did work on multiple occasions and we had issues with the heat in the room. There are a number of hotels in downtown Asheville within the same price range that offer much better customer service. We live in Western North Carolina and visit Asheville regularly. Most likely we would not stay at this hotel again.
Great location in downtown Asheville! Located in a former department store, the design and ambiance of the hotel had an idiosyncratic and quirky character. The room was very spacious and clean.

United StatesWhile the mattress was in good condition, it was very stiff/firm for us. We're side and stomach sleepers and shoulders hurt in the morning. This is very subjective though and other rooms may have different mattresses. Probably great if you're a back sleeper. Sheets were clean and bright white and pillows were great. Had a good mini fridge but no microwave so that would be a nice addition.
We like that the hotel was originally a department store many years ago. Love the architecture and design of the entire building. It's an older building but well maintained for the most part. Could use a few building maintenance improvements here and there but just the finer details. A lot of it adds to the character of the place. We had room 207 which is a king suite with a whirlpool tub. The room had lots of space with a pull-out couch. Very clean. We interacted with I believe six different staff members and all were extremely friendly and helpful! Downstairs is a handmade chocolate store. You can watch the chocolate being made from the interior hallway. Walking distance to great restaurants.
