Teeny Tiny drawback were all the stairs to get to our room. Def. hard for this 62 year old former cancer patient to get up and down the 3 flights of stairs especially with luggage. But I powered through!!!

Breakfast was excellent! Banana pancakes a huge hit and the eggs my 4 year old loved because they have a secret ingredient in them!!!! Accommodations were charming, spacious and we loved the heart shape tub!!!

As Helen is an alpine village, there are hills that need climbing. Nearly all the parking lots in town are either $5 or $10 depending on distance from the town center. If you can walk it, leave your car in the B&B's parking lots. If you are familiar with Gatlinburg, Helen is a smaller, more intimate version. It's more compact. There are about 400-500 people living in Helen year round and 1.5 million people visit it each year (off from 3 mill in 2015); it's the third most visited city in Georgia. As far as the Black Forest B&B, I would prefer to have the breakfast before 8 and coffee available by 6:30 instead of 8:30 and 8:00. The parking is a problem, obviously. he B&B has enough spaces for a dozen cars, but they are cramped and the driveway feels like it is nearly vertical trying to back onto the Main Street in town. It's doable, but scary sometimes.

The Black Forest B&B is within walking distance of almost everything in Helen. The room we had was on the second level and there were 3-4 more levels above us. The second level is 12 steps up while the top level is 48 steps. The large room had a queen bed and a heart shaped Jacuzzi, wi-fi, fireplace with gas logs and did not have a duvet (a plus in my mind). The receptionist gave us maps of nearly everything in the local area, made suggestions for things to do and where to eat. Don't miss the Hofbrau Haus pork hock but bring an appetite, it's wonderful and huge, only 500 feet from the B&B. In the middle of November, the Christmas lights were almost all up and the music and festivities were starting up. Octoberfest is a great time to go, too. Recommendation, don't go to Helen from the second week in January to the first of April as the town mostly shuts down then, including many restaurants and most shops and attractions.

We ended up in one of the cabins, and we were blown away! The cabins are spacious, spotless, and totally adorable in a kitschy, vintage-y way. We loved sitting on the balcony in the evening and enjoying the fresh air. Breakfast was great. They provided some fresh fruit, decent coffee, real eggs (scrambled), and some totally delicious pancakes. We really loved the location. It's quietly nestled into the hillside, and is walking distance to everything in town. We felt welcomed and relaxed, and we wish we could have stayed longer!
