Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Dominican Republic-
It was an awesome place. The staff there made you feel like you were part of a big, happy family. Every night, we'd all gather around a bonfire and chat. They were always happy to share their knowledge about the local life and the island. Each room was one-of-a-kind and special. The food is yummy and made with love. The pool is nice. The crew helps you with taxis, renting a car, and booking excursions. They support locals with fair prices. We had a great time and will come back.

GermanyThe whole hotel complex is beautiful and furnished in a rustic style. All staff is very nice and helpful. The beach can be reached directly by foot. It is possible to book a lot of island tours directly at the reception. I wish I could have stayed for at least a week but I had planned only 3 days 🙁 The local food (sea food, fruits etc.) was very delicious. And these small mangos... 😋

KuwaitWe stayed at Mustapha’s Place for nine nights with our 1 and 4 year old. The staff were incredible and so friendly. The pool and playground were so fun for our little ones. The food is really great and priced at a good value. I highly recommend this place for families looking to get off the beaten track and want a truly Zanzibar holiday. We will definitely come back!

NorwayAmazing authentic african ‘hotel’ with super atmosphere! The owner says himself it’s not a hotel, but a home. And it’s easy to see why. This place is a warm community with great facilities and nature hand in hand. The atmosphere and the staff make sure you feel at home and they’ll help you with whatever you would need. Me and my friends had a wonderful time in this beatiful home and we hope to return sometime soon! Recommend

The positiv vibe. You truly feel like home ! One love. Best place to stay in Zanzibar, and I tried many different places over 25 years coming to this Island. From luxury resorts to local B&B in the outside of Stone Town. This is the best.

CanadaNo AC in the rooms and the fans are not powerful enough when the weather is hot and the bathrooms require a bit of an upgrade.
The location and the grounds were amazing... the beds were comfortable, and the pool was spectacular and great for a family. The food was pretty good and very reasonably priced. Locally owned property and didn't have too many power outages compared to other hotels in the area.

PolandNothing realy if you are a traveler looking for honest, local, trully friendly people in true African style bungalows.
Mustapha's Place is a unique to all Zanzibar Island place ! The people around, Mustapha himself, his brother and his wife and service is at the brotherhood level. The place itself is a all natural almost rural with local plants and trees creating a habitat for local Animals like Bush Baby or Red monkeys. They come peacefuly to this place cuz of the vibe and attitude of the people there. Mama Pacha is looking at people, animals and all the creatures there in this place. Food is very tasty, fresh and localy harvested. One bed Bungalows are good for 2 people and fans are all what you need. Air condition would seperate you from the whole experience. Water is served in glass, not plastic so less pollution. Guys and girls - If you want a Zanzibarian experience, African vibe, true people that respect the nature - this is the place to go on Zanzibar. Asante Sana millions times.

United KingdomThe lighting in the rooms was a bit too dark for my taste (low vision) or maybee 'atmospheric' to other tastes.
I really enjoyed staying at Mustapha's Place as it is avery relaxed place to rest up and from which to explore the east coast of Zanzibar. As a blind 60yr old WASP you could say I wasnt quite thier market profile but I loved the place for its relaxed feel, basic but perfectly acceptable comfort level and the lovely friendliness of Mustapha and all his staff. The food was good, and I had one of the meals during my time in Zanzibar here. Be prepared for reggae music and the night time arrival of banana stealling bushbabies.

BelgiumNothing! Price - quality it absolutely surpassed my expectations so we couldn't ask for anything more.
Mustapha's place is a very special place. The athmosphere is absolutely amasing, the staff very friendly. Very child friendly too. The food is fresh and very tasty. We wish we could have stayed a bit longer. The location is perfect if you don't like too many tourists around. A stroll on the beach and you reach the busier lodges and kite surf paradise.

United Arab EmiratesMustapha's place is more than just a destination – it's a heartfelt experience. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed into a world where friendliness and chill vibes abound. The heart and soul of this place is none other than its owner, Mr. Mustapha, whose dedication was felt in every corner of this retreat. The essence of his passion and love for this place is woven into every element. The staff at Mustapha's are a reflection of this spirit. Their love for their country shines through, creating an atmosphere that's not just welcoming, but deeply authentic. Thank you Mustapha for the beautiful stay and my apologies for the delay in writing this review..

United KingdomNothing not to like.
Everything! It’s an amazing oasis, feels like a different world. We first stayed at Mustapha’s 20 years ago, and while it’s grown a bit (particularly all the trees and plants!) it’s lost none of its character and the incredibly chilled vibe of the place is really the same. The rooms are just as quirky and unique. The pool is so beautifully done it just feels like it was always there. So good to support a locally owned business in Zanzibar.

United Arab EmiratesA little far from things, but not too far if you don't have to carry toddlers whose legs are suddenly "too tired."
A magical place. It was a tropical paradise. Each room is like a little bungalow with a little outside sitting area. The restaurant was fabulous. (This was great because we went during the off season and there weren't a lot of places open nearby, or they were open but not fully running yet.) The pool was perfect for my kids, my son swam for HOURS everyday. The staff was so kind and helpful. My kids are still little so we mostly just hung out around the pool, walked along the beach, and went to nearby cave one afternoon. There is probably more to do and see but we were happy just to relax in this amazing location.

ZambiaThe property isn't right on the beach (not an issue, just for other travellers to know) and I found the food to be quite pricey (though this also depends on how long you stay).
The whole place feels like a remote jungle paradise. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and the pool is really stunning. The food was delicious and fresh, and there were plenty of interesting and local activities to engage in. I'd recommend the swahili cooking class!
