Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

TurkeyEverything was amazing!! hardly recommended spot on the island .. just a one-point, It is hard to find the right route to reach the hotel. It is necessary to increase the signs in the village.

South AfricaAmazing hotel! Only 8 bedrooms, beautiful buildings and decor. The staff and manager are super helpful and kind. Quiet area of Zanzibar with live music in hotels next door and plenty to do! Close to Mnemba island. Recommended for people wanting to relax but have activities to do.

United KingdomI don't often write a more negative review but sadly there were a few things that we felt needed improving at the price point we paid (King Suite). Firstly the room itself though spacious needed some updating. The walls could do with a lick of paint, the bathroom was tired and a little basic (again for the price point), the mattress was uncomfortable - I don't think it was old but the quality was not great. The pool was very pleasant but there was an issue with the chlorine that stained our swimwear. We weren't the first to experience this. The hotel were very good and laundered our stuff but it's obviously not ideal. Some of the pool furniture also needed updating or a bit of TLC. Finally, we had an issue one night when the power cut off and it was several hours before the generator kicked in. At this time of year it's impossible to sleep without either aircon or a fan. Difficult to know whether this was a one off as other power cuts lasted only a couple of minutes. But I feel that the management who were aware of the issue should have apologised for the discomfort the next day.
The beachside location was stunning. We had a large and comfortable balcony from our room which overlooked the beach. The staff were wonderful. We enjoyed the food and the spa was exceptional.

NorwayThe prices for the dinner were higher than the other places we stayed that had a similar standard. The only thing that let us down was that the bathroom smelled very damp (mold?). We couldn't store our clothes there. If we forgot to close the door, the smell came into the bedroom, which initially had no smell. Now it must be said that it rained several of the days we were there, so that may have been the reason.
Well maintained and nice. Clean. Delicious breakfast and good dinner. Nice bungalow with a good bed. Nice beach. Quiet location. In the village you could see daily life going on.

DenmarkUnfortunately we and several other guests got food poisoning from the food at the hotel. We were sick for 2,5 days in the hotel room and did not feel like eating anything from the hotel for the rest of our stay because of it. Things like this can happen anywhere of course, but it affected our overall experience during our stay. We were sad to spend 1/3 of our holiday being sick, and we missed out on snorkeling in the area which we had really looked forward to. The room and facilities were okay, but not amazing. Because of the food poisoning we only had a few meals at the hotel - minus the food poisoning the food was decent, not good or great. We walked 30 minutes to the nearest small local "store" where we could buy crisps and we lived on that after the food poisoning. We found the food standard in the hotel and on Zanzibar generally to be low compared to the food standard in Scandinavia/Europe where we live. We know how much the hotel(s) rely on good ratings and reviews from guests, but we also want to be honest and give a true representation of the hotel and our experience as hotel guests. It is not a 9.6 hotel experience... We had high expectations and were looking forward to our stay (because of the high rating) and unfortunately we were disappointed.
The hotel is right by the beach. The staff was friendly and welcoming. The hotel was small, serene and quiet. Traditional local inspiration on the decor.

NetherlandsMatemwe is a small place and there is not a lot to do, you're mostly 'stuck' in your resort. The resort is designed in a way that you cannot fully enjoy the beautiful sea view, which other resorts in Matemwe have done a better job in. The restaurant is a bit 'hidden' away, and the swimming pool is a bit enclosed, as two bungalows are blocking the sea view. There are also lots of plants which block the view. Our bungalow was next to an alley (bungalow number 5), and the locals used that alley to get to the beach, so we did have some noise. In addition, the sea-view bungalows are so close to the sea that you have some noise from the locals sitting right in front of your bungalow on the beach. We didn't find it very comfortable to enjoy the patio because of this. The bungalows are stacked, so there are three rooms per bungalow. We did experience noise from the upstairs guests. We couldn't shake the feeling that the toilet smelt like urine, not sure where it came from (the toilet looked clean) so maybe more a sewage problem.
A new resort, which is beautifully designed and built. The staff is great and the food is amazing! The food was one of the best we had on the island, all fresh and very tasty. It's an adult only resort so no small children. All very relaxing and quiet.
