Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Absolutely everything 🫶 My stay and experience was perfect all the way through. Stunning small hotel in a quiet place ideal for single gate away or relaxing stay for couples. Loved my room with sea view, easy and direct access to the beach, could enjoy my cup of coffee in the mornings watching sunrise from my terrace or just take a few steps and seat on the beach 🏝 Hotel provides kayaks and bicycles, kite school just next door and diving center few mins walk. Staff in the whole hotel including housekeeping ladies is super friendly. Michal and Kasia who are managers will make sure your stay is comfortable and unforgettable. Been in Zanzibar 4 times in total and this hotel had definitely the best dining experience. A lot of choices for vegans and vegetarians and food is delicious 👌 strong 10 and highly recommended 👍

SwedenOne small dislike was that the cleaning crew often forgot to lock the door after they had been cleaning in our room, but it did not have any material affect on our stay and experience
Absolutely amazing little boutique hotel just on Matemwe Beach! After a lot of googling on where to stay in Zanzibar I found this gem. The hotel is supercozy with the perfect resort-ambience that you're looking for. Staff was superfriendly and really wants to get to know you. The food was AMAZING, we especially appreciated the à la carte menu for breakfast (so much better than a buffé). Previous comments have mentioned that the lunch and dinner prices are above average, but I would say that it is up to par with the quality that you get. Rooms were cozy and it was amazing to wake up, seeing the beach and hearing the waves. The rooms were cleaned twice a day which was really nice. Lastly, I had a 50min Swedish massage at their spa (highly recommend!). We will definitely come back!

Our stay at Marafiki was absolutely superb. The hosts were extremely understanding about early check in and a late check out , for free! They were so hospitable and the staff always had a smile on their faces. Rooms are comfortable and clean and the resort environment is just to die for. If I go back to Zanzibar, I will go straight back to Marafiki.

DenmarkEverything was perfect. The receptionists, housekeepers, managers, restaurant employees, spa etc were all very kind and helpful. Feels like a small family. Loved the stay here and even came back for more days. Can highly recommend it. The food is exceptional good - even the breakfast that’s included. Rooms are amazing in traditional style with a perfect view to the ocean.

SwitzerlandAs so many hotels in Zanzibar, this is a hotel owned and led by foreigners. In this environment of mostly white owners and guests, the evening programme has to be very sensitive to the colonial history of the country. For that reason, I would recommend the managers to revisit certain parts of the programme. Another comment would be that the food is very westernised and pretty expensive - we ended up going to the amazing places nearby where you can eat very great local cuisine, but maybe the hotel could benefit from collaborations with such cooks and restaurants.
The location of the place is truly great. Our room was dreamy! Also the staff is incredibly nice and kind. We can really recommend the place for all those reasons!

PolandMarafiki Beach Hotel is an absolutely great place. What made the overall stay unforgettable was the amazing personal, which is perfectly led by Michal. Whatever wish we had was taken up in a great and super friendly manner. All employees were very supportive and amazingly kind. The location directly at the ocean with endless white sand beaches is great for several activities like kiting or others. Also diving is super easy as the PADI dive center is just 10min foot walk away, which offers several tours, besides diving obviously also snorkelling. Furthermore, it turned out that the restaurant offers most probably the best food on the whole island.

TanzaniaNothing, all was perfect. There is no waterkettle in the room, but the staff will bring you one (including tea, cups etc) if you ask for it.
We asked for a room as close to the beach as possible, and this is exactly what we got. Only a few meters away from the beach we enjoyed the sound of the waves, and when opening the curtains in the morning we were welcomed by the view of the sunrise and the sea. The staff is very friendly, with a personal touch. They are always there to assist or serve you nice meals and drinks. The room and restaurant were vere clean. The bed and pillows are very good, we slept very well because it is also quiet at night (also during the day). The AC and fan in the room are very helpful to get some good rest. We stayed for 5 nights, and enojyed many different meals from the a la carte menu for lunch and dinner. Also many different choices for breakfast. The food is very, very tasty. Nice sunbeds around the swimmingpool and in front of our room. The beach is great and the hotel has watershoes available to borrow We enjoyed our stay very much and can highly recommend to stay at Marafiki Beach Hotel.

GermanyThe food was absolutely delicious (fish/meat and vegetarian options). The breakfast menu had plenty options to choose from and the a la carte lunch/dinner menu in addition to the dishes of the day were always excellent. The room was spacious and clean. The mini fridge in the room and the AC were added bonuses, in addition to high quality amenities provided in the room (shampoo/showergel/body lotion etc.) from Inaya Zanzibar- a women led eco friendly brand based in stonetown. The pool and sunbeds and little pergolas around the pool were super comfy to hang out in. The staff, whether at the bar/restaurant, the Spa reception or cleaning/maintenance were all super friendly, hearty and attentive. The restaurant/bar area also had a bookshelf where one could borrow books and yoga mats were available too to borrow. Shoes were provided for walking out at beach when the tide was out to avoid getting sea urchins into your feet and you could also borrow kajaks. The spa was great generally, with many options to choose from and great locally made products used. The aftersun treatment with fresh aloe vera and icecubes was amazing after getting too much sun. The property in general was extremely clean and well maintained.

NorwayWe think that all was good. Basically the hotel exceeded our expectations.
It is a quiet hotel, which is so nicely located that we spent most of time enjoying the view in a hammock in front of our room and relaxing. The hotel is very well maintained and is located right on the beach. The food was superb - we explored the surroundings and ended up enjoying the hotel restaurant. The home made jam was delicious, and calamari so tasty! Wifi was also surprisingly good, and we even could do some work from there. There were free bikes and water shoes for exploring the neighborhoods and the reef during the low tide. Staff was excellent and always helpful. At the departure day the hotel arranged a convenient transfer so that we could also explore Stone Town. They also provided us with very good tips as to what to see there! We hope to come back again.
