Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

The hotel is located right at the beach and it’s very quite and calm around there. The in- and exterior is warmly decorated and has a lot of charm to it. We loved the great service, the food and the little activities (e.g. cooking class, village walk, live music sunset) offered by the staff without extra charge.

Czech RepublicWe had amazing stay in there. Staff is very friendly and helpfull, very nice place. Food vas really amazing! Dinner and also breakfast was great. You get fruit platter, amazing and warm pastry, butter and homemade jam plus you can choose some dish from the menu. Very good selection of meals. We will definitely come back. One small thing - some umbrellas by the pool would be fine since all sunbeds are on sun and there is not that many options of shadow. :)

Staff members were friendly and the food was great. There isn’t much to do outside the resort but it’s a perfect place to stay if you’re looking for somewhere quiet and nice. You can eat, drink, soak up the sun and relax the whole time there.

NetherlandsWe stayed in Zanzibar for a total of five nights, and we couldn’t have picked a better place to stay! The hotel is fantastic, with a great vibe right by the beach and rooms that are clean, neat, and beautiful. The staff, mostly locals, are exceptional—super friendly and helpful, always with a big smile. They also make delicious fruit cocktails, and we always had great food, especially on our last night when we had traditional Swahili dinner accompanied by a music and dance presentation by locals. The hotel manager also helped us book tours, which saved us a lot of time and ensured we had good guides. We were very happy with our stay. It’s definitely a wonderful place to stay in Zanzibar, and we hope to return!

United KingdomI didn't dislike it as I came to relax, but it is out the way and there is nowhere else to eat or visit close by, but I was more than happy staying in the hotel as well as going out on trips organised by them.
The peace and tranquility. It is a small hotel but very personable. The staff are very helpful and friendly, it's very clean and the rooms are so comfortable. The food is great and the pools are lovely. The beach is lovely to swim in when it is high tide only and you can walk along the lengthy beach. There is use of bikes and kayaks also.

LatviaI heard the hotel is planing renovations, that would make it perfect, as some things naturally start to show wear and tear. Like in most places on the island, unless it is a private beach or if the sun beds are on the hotel beach property where their staff and guards are making rounds, there are gonna be merchants - good thing is that there didn't seem to be many stand by merchants, waiting for you to exit the hotel area onto the beach, so occasionally you could get a moment to yourself but some walks were just one seller after another.
A tropical, chill, beach vibe to the hotel. Our room with the sea view balcony was really enjoyable. The restaurant (including breakfast) was the best food I have had in Tanzania overall but you quickly run out of new options to eat, so after a few days you gotta start dining out, which is fine as there are options nearby. The pool area (on the restaurant side) was visually pleasing and enjoyable to swim at and lay on the sun beds. The hotel is right on the beach, so you can go for beach walks, reef walks (as there is low tide during the first part of the day) and there is a kitesurfing kiosk right outside. The staff were very friendly. The bar had plenty of drink and cocktail choices. An overall great place to hang out and spend some of your vacation days.

GermanyWe stayed in two different rooms, one next to the big pool in the main area, one in the neighbour building. The first room in the main area was great, perfectly equipped and had a lovely view. The second room was in a bigger building which needs a little more love and attention. Even though it was a better category, we felt more comfortable in the other room.
- The view !! - the lovely (1st) room - the great food in the restaurant - the possibility to refill water - the comfortable chairs - the free activities like cooking class, Yoga, village tour, renting bikes - the friendly staff

Marafiki is a great hotel which is perfectly located next to the beach. It is a place where you can easily relax but also do some activities such as renting bikes, participating in yoga classes, reef walks or a village tour. The staff was super friendly and the food, especially the breakfast, was great. Definitely happy to come back!

TurkeyWe can’t really say anything that we dislike but the roads that lead to the hotel are in pretty bad condition through a local village. Marafiki could invest in upgrading the local village and give back to the community :)
The staff were amazing. The design of the facilities was beautiful. We loved the Marafiki Bar, such a lovely place for drinks and chilling. The food was also tasty with vegetarian options. The bed was also comfy. Try their massage too! Reef walk was great - they have free activities every day. You can also arrange diving & snorkelling excursions easily. Special thanks to all the staff members but mainly Jems, Magda, Amine and Happiness.

United KingdomNothing - the electricity does drop off every so often, but only momentarily. It's a fairly quiet atmosphere but that suited us really well after a week of safari action.
The setting of the hotel is stunning, directly onto Matemwe beach but also with a lovely pool, loungers and restaurant. The breakfast was delicious, and the staff were lovely. The whole place has a very nice relaxed atmosphere. Our rooms were lovely - one with an ocean view from the gorgeous terrace. They offer activities like yoga and cooking classes. We did the reef walk with a lovely guy called James, who talked us through the fish and corals as we walked across. We also had dinner at the hotel one night, which was excellent. We were a family, travelling with our adult children, and it was very relaxing and quiet. The hotel recommended a diving company, who were fantastic, taking us out to nearby Mnemba island where we saw fantastic fish and swam next to dolphins.
