I like attractions in the garden, like basketball, gym etc.

Excellent, low cost hostel with a variety of guests, not just tourist travelers. Highly recommended

Excellent hostel at a truly bargain price (12€ per bed mid-November). Wifi is very good and street parking was very easy during my 3 night visit. Unlike a typical traveler hostel, Yard has an interesting mix of longer-term working residents, immigrants searching for work, and travelers. It's easy to engage in good conversations in Portuguese, English, Spanish, German, and Arabic. With a little scrounging, the well-equipped kitchen is suitable for meal preparation and the backyard with plants, shade, small swimming pool, gym equipment, and barbecue is a nice environment. The lounge has couches and a frequently used pool table. Owner Marco is very friendly and intelligent although you may not distinguish him from the guests at first until he starts folding linens. The nearest supermarket is a 25 minute walk, but Yard has some basics for sale in house. Amora isn't particularly attractive and except for the nearby regular train service, it's not particularly convenient for visiting Lisbon but that's one of the reasons for its low, low price. If you don't have a car and want to be right in Lisbon, Marco has another, slightly more costly albergue in the ancient but heavily touristic Alfama neighborhood. The one word name "Yard" can be confusing in some contexts because it doesn't identify the business as a hostel.
