Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.

ItalyNot a direct criticism of the house, but: those of us who slept in street-side rooms had trouble sleeping because of rowdy shouting kids and adults in the streets. I would suggest placing double-glazed glass in those windows!
The house is very well located: sea views just a couple hundred metres down the road, and a parking lot nearby. The back garden is a nice treat. Beds are extremely comfortable, and kitchen is fully equipped (we ate out as we were only there for 2 nights, but those staying for longer would not miss anything by way of cooking equipment).

PortugalCleanliness. Lack of dishwasher. Old and broken toilet seats and showers. Bath water is always too hot or extremely cold. No hot water on kitchen sink, also very little pressure. Lack of amenities. Water heater was dripping. There was a smell of mold all ocer the ouse and on the bed sheets.

NetherlandsThe terrace was somewhat dirty which means you are underpaying the cleaning employee as it is customary in Southern Europe. A compensation was promised to me from booking and after contacting them 3 times I have not yet been credited. The windows are extremely hard to close without a handle. But it’s fine as long as the money keeps coming right ?

United KingdomThe apartment was quite old and the windows had not yet been replaced for double-glazed ones, so there was literally no sound-blocking. This was essential since the house is located in a busy street just across a 24h bakery. The mattresses were very uncomfortable as well which made it even more difficult to rest. Also, there were loads of essential things missing in the apartment, such as extra sheets and towels, glassware and cookware. Since there is no dishwasher, it is impractical to only have the exact amount of glassware per host. The other 2 apartments on the house are rent by the same host, so the terrace is shared. There is a barbecue available which is inadequately small for everyone to use and there are no lights on the terrace.
The check-in was very straightforward. The apartment was clean and had a nice terrace. It was well situated in the town's centre, near the market and about 15 minutes by car to the beach. There were not enough glasses for all the guests, but upon contacting the host they have promptly provided some.
