Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

NetherlandsI only have one complaint: Breakfast (quality (juices were not fresh), variety (each day it was exactly the same and choices of e.g. cheese (3), meat(3) and yoghurt(1) were very limited), cleanliness (counters often looked messy), availability (often ran into empty pots with 1 kind of yoghurt),...) was average to poor for this type of hotel.
Location, staff, free wifi, room, bed, walking around the facility, etc were all good to excellent.

United KingdomThe rooms do need refurbishing - scratches on furniture, stains on carpet and a big tear in the curtains. Also, it would have been nice to have had the bottle of water replenished rather than supplied just on arrival. This is nothing to do with the hotel, but the manners of some of the guests left a lot to be desired. For example, many on loud video calls and lying fully out on the outdoor bar furniture where people sit, some even with their feet on tables and we also noticed a guest on video call laying fully out on an indoor sofa, not what you expect in a five star hotel.
On arrival at 14.30, we were greeted by a very friendly receptionist who allocated our rooms immediately. The public areas and pool & gardens were kept immaculately and were very inviting. Contrary to other reviews we found the breakfast to be absolutely fine with plenty of fresh fruit, lovely rolls and good strong coffee etc. The reception staff were all friendly and helpful. We had a leak in our bathroom which we reported to the house-keeping staff. This was dealt with very promptly. We enjoyed our stay at this hotel.

I wish I had more time in Funchal to stay and enjoy all the amenities hotel offers. Both pools (Roof Top/Infinity) are phenomenal and full buffet breakfast including omelette station.

United KingdomWe were awaken most days by the sound of doors or people talking in the corridor, our room’s door didn’t insulate the sound at all. The room was really nice but it was not cleaned well every day, we could tell that some days it was not hoovered, tissues weren’t refilled, room service dishes weren’t taken away. The towels were only changed on the first day. The jacuzzi was very cold. The hotel parking was super expensive (15€ for 24h) vs the nearby casino at 9€ per day.
Good amenities (pools, restaurants, games area) The location was perfect for us to either explore the city centre or drive off to see other cities. Reception staff was helpful. Early breakfast provided which was very helpful when we wanted to head off on an early hike

United KingdomThe breakfast didn't have much option, you'd think for a 5 star hotel you'd have a variety of different food. Was not bad, but could be better. Also for the price you're paying per night, the guests should have free parking, but you don't. It's 15€ a day, so you have to find a place to park your car and for such busy roads It's not easy.

United KingdomDinners! Unfortunately the food was often lukewarm/cold, there were no clear signs on what it contains (not ideal for a vegetarian) and there were few options or uninspired meals. I wish we ate outside instead. There were a couple of evenings when food was tasty but I mostly felt disappointed. Pool water temperature - way too cold for my taste. At least the spa indoor pool could be warmer but even this one is freezing cold. Some facilities could be renovated/updated - like the spa area.
The location is great, the hotel is situated very close to the centre of the city - works well for walks and next to the sea with amazing views. However, for those who are light sleepers staying in a room facing marina might be difficult at times. On Fridays a ferry comes in around 1 am and there is a super loud engine sound on for quite a bit - it woke me up. But for anyone who is not a light sleeper, I imagine that will not be an issue. Casino-facing rooms could also be challenging as those leaving the casino in the early morning tend to be loud - my parents were woken in the middle of several nights.
