Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaNothing! We did look at a lot of the previous reviews & I think you have to accept you are staying in a +150 year old building with all its quirks & charms. We did opt to eat out of the palace in Luso & had a lovely dinner at Pedro do Sal in Luso
The ambience of staying in an old world palace! Such incredible decor & loved the history & the garden’s & natural forest surroundings

Canadaunfortunately we could not hike in the national forest due to fire in the area and the ban in hiking in national forests , we realize this is not the fault of for hotel but it was part of the reason we booked this place esp for 2 days, We were notified about the ban in hiking but nothing was mentioned about cancellation options .
peaceful and quiet . lovely place. impressive palace. good food and helpful regarding our gluten intolerance. The food was tasty and the atmosphere was lovely in the dining room.

JapanThe room is not equipped with refrigerator and wifi was not available. The restaurant’s food for dinner was not so good considering the price. The restaurant’s personnel seemed very busy and we didn’t feel at home. The garden was not maintained well.
The hotel building is beautiful and the surrounding national park is very good to walk around.

PortugalBad hotel itself. Room was super old, furniture in the major bar looked super old (not authentic , but old) and smell. Service during evening (we took a glass of vinegar in the bar) was rude. On the breakfast I asked 3 times for coffee and i got it in 25-30 minutes, after i ate all food. Waitress told me there were not enough people to manage requests. At the same time man, who welcomed us when we just come was super nice and helpful. Palace is extremely beautiful. And it is a pity that it was managed like that. Ps during all breakfast man in the garden (just in front of open terrace) was cleaning leaves with vacuum cleaner and beautiful morning and breakfast was a little spoiled but that. I believe it is possible to do it after 10:30, at least in the area just in front of open restaurant
Beautiful palace. Exceed expectations

United StatesWe were in the simpler rooms. That part of the palace needs maintenance. There’s some wood rot around windows and peeling paint.
Beautiful palace in middle of national park. There’s excellent hiking and we took an informative tour of the imported trees in the forest. Excellent breakfast included.

AustraliaIt’s such a shame that such a beautiful national monument is in such a state of disrepair. Also shameful how the Portuguese government allow a valuable asset to slide into this state. Be aware there is no airconditioner.
Historical aspect and the wonderful breakfast complete with bubbles and expresso. The setting in the national park was very peaceful.

United StatesThe only dinner option is the hotel restaurant, and it's very overpriced for food that is not amazing. Of course you can tell from the photos, the place, and the other reviews that this is not Windsor Palace. It's not refurbished and old fashion, but it certainly has a lot of charm and is fun for a night.
The hotel is the only option inside the forest, and it's lovely to stay in a real "palace." The staff was great and the room was spacious, including a large bathtub and a shared balcony that has amazing views. The breakfast, as everyone reports, is an extensive buffet. I don't think the quality of any of the food is extremely high, but the sheer variety of options is very welcome, including even fresh-squeezed juice and champagne, as well as some homemade breads. We really enjoyed having a drink in the bar and its outside patio. Tour groups occasionally showed up but being "inside" the palace is really a treat.

South AfricaThis is a magnificent hotel in a beautiful setting, both of which really warrant a visit. The staff at the front desk were also truly exceptional and deserve a special mention. They were friendly, helpful and easygoing, while running the hotel to a very high standard, which all just made staying here an extremely enjoyable experience.

United StatesWhile a historical setting was a bonus, the decor, furnishings, and overall interior appearance needs significant additional investment. The general manager was very kind and accommodating in resolving a situation that arose during our stay.
The palace is set in a beautiful forest, with many very nice walking paths and gardens. It was exciting to have an experience staying at a historical palace. The breakfast was quite good in a grand dining room setting.
