We stayed in a lot of hostels in our 3 week trip in NZ but unfortunately this was was the worst in terms of cleanliness. The fridges were disgusting and looked like they hadn't been cleaned in months. There seem to be a lot of long term guests living there and working in the area however the kitchen is too small to accommodate everyone there, anytime you went into the kitchen between 5pm and 10pm it was full of people cooking dinner so unfortunately there wasn't enough space for everyone to cook a meal at some stage in the evening. I don't know if people take dishes to their rooms but in the morning there were no mugs in the kitchen and only one spoon and bowl so we had to take turns eating cereal. With this amount of people sharing a small kitchen with no regular cleaning it got very dirty and unsanitary very quickly

The lady who checked us in was friendly, the bedroom was clean and it's in a good location, a 20 min walk to restaurants and a supermarket

More no smoking signs? Someone was burning or smoking something in the room each evening and the smell was very annoying. The smell was already there when I'd come to sleep so don't know what exactly it was. It would go by morning though so at least ventilation is good.

Great location close to the stadium. All facilities spotless.

Extremely thin walls and very loud night overall. We aren't particularly light sleepers but were woken up every time someone opened or closed a door in the hallway (which happened A LOT throughout the night). The room also had an unpleasant odor to it.

It's good value for money, the double bed was comfortable. The bathroom was clean and the showers good.

we pulled into the place and immediately were treated rudely. after reading reviews as a group we decided we didn’t feel comfortable or safe staying so we paid our nights stay and drove home back to Christchurch.

We had a family room, the bunks were very noisy/squeaked every time you moved, we put the mattresses on the floor to sleep. The biggest down side was the amount of noise at night. The walls are thin so people who are talking fairly loudly can be heard, as well as snoring. We stayed 3 nights, 1 of which was great. The other two, different groups of inconsiderate people made a lot of noise until nearly midnight or until they were asked to be quiet. It would be great if there were some more expectations of guests to be quiet around the rooms from around 9.30/10. This could be mentioned when you check in and have signage to remind people. If you choose to stay here - please think about the other people around you and keep your noise down at night :)

The backpackers was in a good location, right next door to a yummy cafe. The kitchen facilities were good, plenty of fridge/freezer space, lots of equipment. Showers/bathroom were tidy and worked well. Quite a lot of communal space, games room/ outdoor covered seating. Lots of car park space.

It was so noisy, kids were running around 10pm at night one night, other night people were talking and laughing in front of my door 11pm at night. Toilets and the kitchen were dirty. It is guests' fault, but it wasn't pleasant to use. Bed was so wobbly and can fill the springs.

Shower and linen were clean. Stafd was friendly. Nice coffe shop next door.

Met lovely people and cooked together with some of the permanent residents at the hostel. Played with the kitten and dog that lived there. Kitchen was well equipped.

The property didn't feel safe and secure. This is not a traveller's accommodation - it is more low quality long term accommodation. The photos on booking com not true representation of poor facilities.

nothing- got so much more than what we paid for.

the backpackers was family friendly with a child’s playground, trampoline, pool table and many board games. Well equipped kitchen, BBQ area and beds are comfy. Bathrooms are new and clean. A quirky stay in a prime location. The receptionist was taking care of the property while her daughter was away and made sure we felt comfortable and safe and even offered us an extra bike lock while we were staying.

Was not able to sleep the whole night and my kid got scared because one of the staff having a fight with boyfriend and they were shouting in the middle of the night. it last very long, shouting will stop for a while then shouting again with foul words....

Never have I been in such a filthy place. Bathrooms were disgusting. Hair all over the shower, still there next day. Paint peeling, mould and cobwebs for Africa. Toilets covered in urine. Avoid this place as your money obviously does not go towatds cleaning it.
