Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

PolandThey have done a good job for cozyness but the property is very narrow, also there was a not great odor coming out of the shower drain, it was not awful but still not great.
The recepcionist is super nice, they let you leave your bags with them free of charge and the zone is amazing. Overall i recommend it, sadly the prices are high but thats for all amsterdam.

AustraliaThe walls are very thin and you can hear other guests in and out of rooms. The bathrooms are very small and if you’re on the third floor be prepared to climb steep small stairs.
The hotel staff are friendly and helpful with recommendations. The rooms are spacious and you can easily access the centre by tram or walking.

United KingdomIt would have been nice to have a toilet as well as shower room, but it wasn't a problem as there was a toilet (and another bathroom) along the corridor. The stairs are very steep...not a problem for me, but not suited to unfit people!
Nice clean room, with shower room. Comfy bed (I was in a twin room), lovely view from the window. Friendly staff, free coffee. Very close to the Carre Theatre (about ten minutes' stroll), where I was going, to see Elbow. Also, only about 15 minutes walk from Centraal Station. Highly recommended ☺️

United KingdomHaving to use kettle in communal area rather than one mini in each room.
Pleasantly surprised with the hotel as booked if due to keeping costs down. It did not disappoint, very clean and tidy and has everything you need. Good location if you’re happy to walk a short distance into the centre. Quiet in the evenings when you’re ready to settle for the night.

AustraliaWould prefer a kettle in the room as otherwise you have to pay a few euro for hot water in the common area downstairs. Even just a kettle and water downstairs considering the room cost.
Loved the location which has more of a locals feel to it. Very friendly, chatty and helpful staff. Comfy bed and good facilities in the room. Great common area downstairs with lounge, table and chairs and cutlery.

United KingdomWe did have a shower room, but no toilet so we had to use a shared one. It was very clean but tiny, not to everyone’s taste but not a huge problem. Our room was huge, on the top floor and would sleep four people as there was a double bed plus two singles. The only major issue would be the stairs - three VERY steep flights (more like ladders really) to reach the top floor. A bit tricky to negotiate even without luggage, so definitely not a choice for people with mobility issues as there is no lift. There is no air-conditioning either, so it might be a bit warm in hot weather. The staff were very friendly and helpful though, and we were able to leave our cases in reception after checking out so we could explore the city a little more before catching an afternoon train.
In a nice area and not too far from the centre, but far enough out to be nice and quiet at night. Comfortable bed and very clean.

IcelandThe only downside is the unpolite staff member who has a American accent I think and always with cap. He seems such a opposite compared to the other staff. But we had a wonderful time there and I would recommend this hotel for others.
The hotel is clean and the staff is super nice and helpful. And specially the lovely lady in the staff who shared were the secret lighter is. She is awesome. 🙂

United KingdomThe only thing i can say is it would be nice if they had some water in reception for when i arrived. Whilst i understand that this is a budget hotel it would be nice if they could have provided tea/coffee as most budget hotels do give you this either in the room or in the reception area free of charge
Hotel is very clean and presentable, its a good, quiet location and the room was perfect for my needs as a single traveler for a long weekend.

MaltaIt was very bad that there was a bathroom and no toilet in the room. This was the first time I encountered something like this.
I really like the ambiance and chilling vibe. When I went out to the window of the room, I saw a view of many roofs. It was a very sweet and interesting view. Location was okey it was 15 mins by walk to the bars. But there was no something like market close to the hotel.

GermanyThe hotel sign in front of the door, could be larger or easily spotted. Sometimes rely on the google maps is not accurate.
The room is clean, I like its big window, especially in summer where there is no air-conditioning in the room, to keep it fully open while you're working inside felt fresh. The location is perfect, very close with my conference venue (UvA campus). Only 5 minutes walking, as expected.

AustraliaOur shower drain randomly gurgled during the night and starting overflowing with smelly stagnant water. This is probably due to the property being quite old and old plumbing. We just had to keep running the shower to make the smell go away.

United KingdomThe pillows could have been more comfortable, and it would’ve been nice to have tea/coffee making facilities in our room rather than downstairs. Also, the toilet locks don’t display whether they’re engaged/vacant, so you need to knock before entering. Perhaps a flip sign would be helpful.
Hotel Hortus is ideally located in a quiet area just outside the city centre; we walked to all the attractions we visited everyday. The rooms are decently sized and we had no issues with the shared bathrooms/showers, which were always very clean. The staff are a huge asset to the property — thank you to the lady night receptionist for all the tips and generosity!
