Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyVery well kept but creaky and old building, tiny stairs and low ceilings. To be expected in Haarlem, but a little annoying anyway.
Extremely friendly and helpful staff, surprisingly nice rooms. Tastefully and creatively decorated. Perfect location. Classy and tasty, but still affordable restaurant downstairs.

GermanyGreat little hotel! The room was very comfortable and well designed! The location is a dream, the public parking garage is only 3 minutes away, the hotel is located directly in the beautiful town center. The staff is super friendly and always there for you. Very good, please keep it up!

IrelandIt's more "rooms above a restaurant" than a full service hotel which suited us but may not suit everyone. It meant that there was no staff present overnight. The access to the rooms is via a very steep stairs which again was fine for us but may be difficult for older people and young children. The decor and lighting was very dark which again may be difficult for some people. The lighting and mirror arrangement in the bedroom and bathroom made it difficult to apply make-up and check it (I know this is a very niche complaint but relevant if going to a wedding!)
Superb central location next to the heart of Haarlem. The restaurant on the ground floor was great for breakfast, coffees and lunch and was filled with locals as well as visitors. The staff were very warm and helpful. Our room was very comfortable and well decorated. Despite central location and downstairs restaurant, it was very quiet at night.

NetherlandsIt feels more of a restaurant with rooms than a hotel with a restaurant. Whilst the room had everything we needed, the bathroom was very small and dark and the stairs were very challenging with luggage.
The location is great, the staff is very nice and the building is full of character. It is very easy to park at the nearby car park.

SwitzerlandWe were very well looked after by the team, the rooms are very thoughtfully furnished and offer you everything you might need during your stay. The location is great if you wish to visit the important sights in Haarlem, the train station is also quite nearby, which makes travelling to "Frenchie" a breeze! Extra points for the restaurant, which offers great options for breakfast and dinner.

United StatesThe long staircase to get up to the rooms and the hallways were rather dark.
It was very clean and the notes and treats each day were lovely. The adjoining restaurant was very good. The staff members were all pleasant and helpful.

CanadaFound the price of breakfast very steep, so we used Jumbo store. Recommend that you raise the lodging price and lower breakfast to €15 - we would have used it then. Maybe the large tub should be antique & smaller to free up storage space for clothing.
French atmosphere was nice touch, created special ambiance. Showering fasciitis were up to date and standard. Steep stairs are uncomfortable for luggage transport, although Jitse got them up for us. Kitchen is highly rated! Location is fantastic : close to market, St. Bravo, cultural buildings, Frans Hals Museum - worth a visit! - and ample shops. Highly recommended, especially for the romantic at heart. Staff is terrific!

United StatesNothing everything was Great!
The team was professional, courteous and kind. My room was clean and tidy daily which added to the comfort. The location description was accurate noting about 7 min walk to the center of Haarlem which was perfect! I got to see and explore so much more of the city. Sadly I was there for work and never got to eat at the restaurant but it was always full of laughter and smiles. Overall, cozy and quaint and would highly recommend.

United KingdomThis is certainly not a criticism but a housecoat and slippers would be very welcome.
The room was very comfortable and stylish. The products were very good. I liked that there was lotion and conditioner as well as a hair diffuser as you don't often get this at hotels. The restaurant was exceptional.

BrazilIt wasn’t a problem for us, but the steep stairs to get to the rooms might be difficult for some.
The place was very inviting and the staff very friendly. The fact that there are only 5 rooms made our experience seem more exclusive, we were received with a welcoming personal written note. The room had a very unique style, combining the old building with modern decorations. They had a coffee machine and kettle to use freely in the room, and also a minifridge.
