The premises were quite dirty, including the floors, seating and poolside lounge cushions. Various buffet dishes were empty and it took quite a while to replenish. Staff were pleasant but indifferent to problems.

Rooms were spacious with light and clean enough. The lush vegetation around the hotel gave a sense of tranquility.

Music by pool a little loud for us and not enough loungers. Plantation restaurant cafeteria like. Returned after 4 days as an end stay to tour with "amazing borneo adventures" - not good - room not ready, we could use the pool but clothing in suitcase. Were left for over an hour without being updated unless we chased and no consideration of a complimentary drink. After that, it got better

Large well equiped rpom, bath and separate shower were a plus. Overlooking pool was good. Chinese restaurant (Ming) was excellent

Other restaurants / parts of the city are not in a walkable distance of the hotel. You have to rent a car / taxi to get around to other areas (i.e. 30min by car to get to Sepilok)

Overall great hotel. The rooms are quite large and in good condition. A good restaurant that serves delicious food for an affordable price. Large pool where you receive free-of-charge towles and lots of sunbeds

The hotel staff are very friendly. Especially the hotel manager (Dennis); he is very helpful and provides attentive service. Also, they have a lovely swimming pool.

The building is a bit dated now, but the standard of hygiene was undoubtedly high.

It was the staff that made the hotel. The hospitality was warm and friendly. The rooms are clean, sizeable and comfortable (deluxe king). Good breakfast with local and international selections. Fruits always very fresh.

One night there was a function in the restaurant which was ridiculously loud. Sitting in the other bar upstairs you could not talk over the singing and what sounded like bingo. This didn’t end till 10pm. It could be heard in the rooms. The only thing I can say bad about the hotel. Otherwise perfect.

The food in the Chinese restaurant was appalling Worst Chinese meal I’ve ever eaten The drinks were expensive and I ordered a G&T and couldn’t taste the gin The other restaurant didn’t serve any alcohol,yet the cafe did and also you could purchase beer by the pool So it didn’t make sense

Facilities are quite dated. The bathroom although clean had lots of tiny insects in the shower compartment in the morning. We weren't sure what they were. We just washed them away with the shower.

Great pool. Nice atmosphere around the pool during the day. Rooms are OK, quite comfortable and the hotel grounds are lovely. Very large bathroom and rooms are a good size.

While the food in the restaurant was good the staff need more training how to run a busy restaurant. No one seemed to be in charge and orders were lost or late.

Property is well located on outskirts of Sandakan. Staff are all very pleasant. Swimming pool is fantastic for kids.

Beds were a little firm and pillows terrible. Not enough water in rooms for drinking. Since you can't drink the water out the tap. No alcohol in restaurant for lunch or dinner.

Charming older style hotel a bit out of town. Perfect for before and after tours. Central pool area.

It would have been good to have somewhere to hang wet swimwear after swimming. Some hotels have a retractable clothes line over the bath rub where you can leave your swimwear to dry. Instead, I hung our swimwear on the bath taps. There was a slight smell of mould coming from the air conditioning system, which could also be smelt in the corridors too.

The room was comfortable with good air conditioning. Whilst we had ordered an extra bed for the little one, this didn't come, but the 2 single beds were large enough to fit 3 of us. Breakfast had a nice selection of local and western foods, and ample space to seat people either indoors or outdoors. The pool was quite large with a shallow and deeper end, so was good for proper swimming or just playing in the water.

Bar and restaurant staff could have been more attentive. Needs a little smarting up a little as it looks a little tacky in places.

Comfortable, historic building with good location. Good stop gap hotel.
