Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

EstoniaReally difficult to hind something, honestly!
I was beyond surprised how amazing the Wakax Hacienda premises are. It’s like a secret “little” (though it’s not that little, 18 acres) world in Tulum. There was so much to discover and so many different beautiful corners. I loved the tours that were included in the price. We would not have gotten that quality anywhere else - the tour guide was so professional and funny and we had an incredible under ground river experience. Now I know so much about cave diving etc. Also - it’s so cool that you just go and take a bike or a paddleboard and do your thing. + the morning yoga was so good! Everything is free of charge and gives a really warm welcome and that the hotel owner really cares about his guests. Staff was amazing as well. The restaurant by the lake is breathtaking.

United StatesOn arrival, the staff is not warm or inviting. Also, we had breakfast included but it was not communicated that only a certain menu was included so we had to argue that point as it was not our fault. Eventual , they did concede the mistake was on the hotel side, but it should did take me standing my ground. We happily ate and spent money as the food was incredible. They just need better communication. Signage to get to massage area could be better. And some colorful pieces or Mexican art or leaves from plants or flowers could liven up the rooms a bit. I love the minalmalist design but it lacked character.
Beautiful property, absolutely loved the lagoon and underground cenote swim. The restaurant staff were amazing.

The nature and local culture respect are greatly appreciated by customers (usually seeking calm and staying away from busy and noisy luxury hotels in Tulum area. It is a high end Hacienda.

United KingdomNot necessarily criticisms but for awareness - taxis from the hotel to Tulum central are expensive (even the 10 minute drive into town is around 600-650 pesos) so I would recommend taking everything you need with you, including cash for tipping the staff and plenty of mosquito spray as you are staying in the jungle!
We absolutely loved our stay at the Wakax Hacienda - this could be a very long list...but among our favourite things were the lovely staff, amazing room, incredible site, fantastic (included) tours and the unique sense of calm, privacy and seclusion. The site is so big and has such amazing natural resources that we honestly didn't feel like we had to leave, it was just so easy to relax there - a perfect start to our honeymoon. As mentioned in many other reviews, Gonzalo the activities coordinator is awesome and we honestly can't think of another place with such an abundance of natural beauty where you're just allowed to roam around and explore - highly highly recommend!

IrelandIt does not fault our score but if we could provide one recommendation it would be to level the driveway up to the property as it’s a bit uncomfortable and rocky for the length it is and could look a bit more appealing.
Could not recommend this place enough for a truly one of a kind experience. The grounds of the hotel are magnificent with stunning waters and amenities. The best thing about the hacienda is the little touches, water and coffee left all around the property as well as towels and even suncream. Paddle boards and kayaks available for anyone to use. Breakfast is fantastic and cooked fresh to order. Lunch and dinner fantastic also, the chefs cook excellent food. Gonzalo, the activities coordinator deserves a separate review entirely so we can fit all the positives in. His cave and bike tours are a must do for any guests staying, he is so enthusiastic and passionate about the area which made the activities even more enjoyable. Side note: some reviews complain about cost of taxis which is correct for the entire area, hence why myself and my husband chose to make use of the collectivos which are the local buses which run consistently from directly outside the property straight to tulum and to playa del carmen. They cost only 25 pesos for a journey per person and we never had to wait longer than 5 minutes for one to pass by.

United Arab EmiratesEverything about the Wakax Hacienda was terrific, including the natural beauty of the jungle and cenotes. The property has been built to the highest standards and fits in perfectly with the area. Complimentary Tea, Coffee, and Water spread around the estate in key locations like the pools and cenotes. The staff was very attentive and the service was excellent. Considering the location was pretty remote the restaurant and bar prices were very reasonable, the food was fresh and prepared to the highest standards.

The site, ammenities and all the decor, design and the attention to detail blew me away. It was a fantastic experience! The lagoon and included tours were excellent (esp. underground river tour), staff were perfect/professional, helpful and friendly. Their food was of a high quality and very reasonably priced for the quality. Excellent selection of cocktails and beers - the daiquiris are the best.

CanadaCocktails were made with the highest quality ingredients and service was friendly and excellent, but it would be nice to have a little entertainment or activities in the evening after supper. We did play ping pong and darts by the restaurant. Additional games such as a pool table or shuffleboard would be a bonus.
Set in the jungle near Tulum, there are three pools, and a gorgeous green lagoon with bar and food service and extremely comfortable lounging, paddle boards and kayaks. We did both tours with the amazing Gonzo; Cenote underground water tour and the Mayan Village Tour on bikes. These were the highlights of our vacation so do not miss -- our older teens just loved them! During our stay we saw iguanas, bats, giant spiders, and a boa constrictor. Note, there were no crocs in the lagoon! There were three options for the included breakfast (plus a fruit bowl, granola, honey and yogurt, coffee and a fresh juice). Options were pancakes or waffles with maple syrup, eggs and bacon with salad, or a traditional Mexican chiquillies with an egg and green or red salsa. Each of our family had a different preference for breakfast which we enjoyed. Breakfast was so filling we could last until late afternoon until our next meal. As we had rented a car we visited nearby Akumal and Puerto Aventuras for meals (another traveler recommended AVIS for car rental). We spent four nights at Wakax. If you have a car, I suggest a three night stay so you can do both tours. BTW, if you have claustrophobia you may not like the cenote tour. The bikes are great fun, staff and owners are very friendly, the rooms are huge and right out of a glossy travel magazine, and the setting is out of this world!

What can I say. The property is incredibly beautiful and well kept. You'll feel mostly alone among the tropical flora, full of birds and also have the ability to use the onsite cenotes basically by yourself which is an absolutely added value considering most of the cenotes around Tulum are highly trafficked and over-priced to access. The food is excellent and service in top. We liked that the property is outside Tulum which makes the surroundings peaceful. We also stayed in the south Tulum Beach area and we loved the relaxed location of wakax much much more. We had a rental car so it was easy to get into and out of tulum.

United KingdomNothing! In terms of improvements, if I was being picky I would say that the larger pool under the arches could benefit from music and someone attending at the bar (there is a beautiful bar in place so this might be in the works). Currently however it is very serene. If we were to stay longer, a second restaurant for variety and maybe a little shop for snacks would be appreciated. Also, I maybe just didn’t find them but practically speaking, toilet facilities in parts of the estate other than the restaurant would be appreciated.
Scenery, architecture, pools and lake, food, privacy, staff… everything was perfect. It feels like a village and it’s lovely to stay in a little cottage and be able to cycle to the restaurant etc. The staff cannot do enough for you, but mostly you are free to just relax and explore.
