I could not fault the property but do make sure you book a waterfront room.

We had the most amazing stay. Mainly I think because we had the waterfront room which was so special. We dined on the dock, swam in the lagoon and were catered for exceptionally but Luis and his amazing team.

Beautiful hotel, very tastefully furnished and so well positioned next to the lake which you can access via a large pontoon gust below the nice pool area. The cocktails and food were fantastic, especially the breakfasts. Finally the staff were all very nice, attentive and helpful. A real haven of peace!

Well, not a deal breaker but as relatively tall people we thought the double beds were a little small.

Location and views are amazing. Very beautiful, small scale and relatively quiet hotel. Staff is great. Breakfast was good.

The drinks were a bit weak. We ordered several alcoholic beverages and did not taste any alcohol.

We absolutely LOVED this hotel! It’s perfectly located on the water which made for amazing views! The staff was phenomenal and so hospitable. They made us feel comfortable and answered our questions via what’s app promptly ever time! I would highly highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Bacalar!

We absolutely loved our stay at Puerta del Cielo! We arrived to Puerta del Cielo after staying for two weeks in a five diamond resort in Riviera Maya, but we didn't miss the resort at all. Puerta del Cielo is a small boutique hotel that has everything a five diamond hotel has to offer, but with the level of service only a small boutique hotel can offer. We loved the little details, from the most delicious welcome drink to an intimate dinner right next to the lagoon. We also absolutely adored the food, the cooking is excellent. Would go again in a heartbeat.

portion sizes were huge - only thing to be wary of as we over ordered several times. hotel staff could possibly be trained to explain portion size. this is me really trying to think of a negative, and am aware some people love huge portions.

loved everything about this place, they made our honeymoon extra special. incredible food, service and design. this was our top hotel in Mexico and we can’t wait to come back one day in the future! the hotel is immaculately clean. our room with partial lagoon view was incredible, with an outside bathtub. the lagoon view is a must! food is amazing

Few areas of improvement - pillows were poor quality and aircon was very rattly and ineffective. Would expect better. The view from our room - while you could see the lagoon it was mainly of the hotel next door which is a bit of an eyesore with bright floodlights that shone all night. Would have expected some breakfast included in the price!

Beautifully designed hotel. Lots of greenery with amazing pool area, deck and pontoon. Staff are super responsive in person and over WhatsApp helping organise taxis, tours, drinks. Room was spacious with bath and hammock on terrace.

Wonderful newly furnished property right on the lake. The staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful and couldn’t do enough to make our stay enjoyable. The ability to book the palapa for a private meal on the lake was a huge highlight for us. The food was also absolutely delicious - expect fine dining!

If you intend to go to the city every day, be aware that you definitely have to take a taxi.

Very modern and beautiful place, you could literally spend all day there. The staff was very friendly, and the room exceptional! We had a roofed outdoor bathtub with a nice little lounge which was perfect to enjoy a coffee in the morning with a nice view over the lake. The pool with lake view looked very well maintained as well. Unfortunately we were unlucky with the weather, and due to lots of rain unable to really use the shared outdoor space nor the kayaks or lake access. Other guests that have stayed for longer and gotten some good weather before were telling us that this is the best place to be though! The staff always helped us in ordering a taxi to the city.

The highway noise is evident in some rooms. Makes it essential to close the doors. I’d not for this it would have been nice to just use the screen door for air at night.

A lovely hotel in a beautiful setting. The staff were very attentive. Dont miss the opportunity to eat here. The young chef is amazing. The pool area, while small, has comfy chairs and umbrellas to set in while you look out at the view.
