Amazing, peaceful resort with wonderful, friendly staff and excellent facilities. The family bungalow was perfect, beautifully decorated and very comfortable. Really hope we will return one day!! Thanks Monika and the team 😊❤️

We don't understand how anyone could present anything bad to say of this resort!

A very welcoming reception by the hosts after a rather long trip (26 h). The staff, from the extremely kind Tila and Santa to the waiters and kitchen personnel, gave a golden feel to our stay. WIFI was good, food was very good, especially the tuna and the breakfast, the pool was very clean holding around 30 degrees and the beach was fantastic for early morning walks. The hosts are offering all kinds of excursions but we intended to just chill out by the pool and onto the beach at their private sun chairs. However, they easily booked a car for us to get back to the airport, which was very convenient. The evenings at dusk was a highlight from our balcony for spotting the wildlife. There are only four villas so it never feels cramped, no need for reserving a sunbed early in the morning :) Thanks again for a memorable (short) vacation!

Not a criticism, just an observation on our part, we found the kitchen hours a little restricted and no chance of any snacks… but that could be considered a good thing!

Lovely spacious modern rooms, with a great modern bathroom and outside shower. Tea and coffee making facilities and endless water. Beautiful part of the coastline chosen for its remoteness and empty beaches. All the staff were very friendly and accommodating.

We loved it! The slightly remote location may not be to everyone’s liking but we loved the slow pace and tranquility. The pool is lovely so it was fine not to be able to swim in the sea. The breakfast was fabulous as was other meals but food and drinks pricing slightly higher than one might expect for the area. But delicious.

Waves to big for a children’s, but really good swimming pool

A very beautiful place for a relaxing holiday. It is immediately clear that the owners are Europeans. Everything is very clean, renovated, very clean pool. The hosts are very friendly - they will help and advise you on all questions. In the hotel restaurant, you can finally get non-spicy food. The beach is very wide and clean, but the waves will not allow swimming with children.

The price of having a deserted beach location is that the hotel is pretty remote. About 20 minutes in tuk-tuk from Tangalle. Food is very pricey. Payment in cash with prices in Euros or dollars, which was confusing.

The bungalow was clean, comfortable and offered a great view. Pool was most welcome. Staff were great - particularly Thila and restaurant staff who were so friendly and helpful. The owners - Monika and her husband- were lovely and appeared genuine in their efforts to ensure we had the best of stays.

Everything! Super attentive and caring hosts have created a little paradise gem here. Worthy of five star rating+ the SE family make you feel very special indeed. We look forward to returning next year.

Struggle to think what might be better, it really is excellent

We spent a lot of time researching hotels and accommodation along the south coast of Sri Lanka. We wanted to find somewhere that was clean and comfortable by western standards, that had a bar and restaurant, had a swimming pool and was on the beach. We found all of this and more at the Sleeping Elephant with a superb team looking after us under the friendly eye of owners Jaroslav and Monika. We didn't want to be in a busy area, tick, we didn't want crowds, tick, we didn't want nightlife and late bars, tick, we wanted wild and relatively quiet beaches with accessible restaurant/bars along the beach, tick. We got everything we wanted there, being in a very comfortable and spacious villa in a small resort where you get hands on hospitality without people being overbearing. The food is really good and there's a good choice there and on the drinks menu. While we were there we saw a mixture of families and couples and all seemed to be really happy with their choice to stay here. We saw turtles laying eggs nearby in a managed conservation beach, saw masses of wildlife in and around the resort (monkeys, eagles, monitors) and felt so safe and comfortable for the entire time. Thanks so much Jaroslav, Monika and team, it was our first time in Sri Lanka and our first stop and you made it a dream start in a beautiful country.

Fantastic new clean resort with friendly owners, pleasant stuff and excellent cuisine. I appreciate excellent massage just after coming and lot of variable activities. The villa was spacious, the ocean nearby. I sure come back soon again. One of my the best stay.

It was spacious clean and build with great and wonderful materials .The breakfast was wonderfull and absolutely more than enough .The pool was great and very clean.The owners and personal where very friendly .Also food was excellent! The area is nice and quite so perfect for relaxing.I can recommend this accomodation right by the ocean to everyone.

The food at the location is a bit more expensive, but when je have a small walk you have several Sri Lankan restaurants. The WiFi is ok but weak in the villa.

Fantastic villa! It was spacious clean and build with great and wonderfull materials. The villa was bigger then expected. The breakfast was wonderfull and absolutely more then enough. The pool was great and very clean. The owners and the personal where very friendly. The area is nice and quite so perfect for some relaxing. Within walking distance there are several nice restaurants.

We were warmly welcomed by the staff of the hotel and beautiful, clean and spacious rooms. The beach was walking distance from the hotel, making our stay there very enjoyable. Would definitely recommend for families with kids as well as people who are looking for a calm vacation. 100% would visit again!

Loved absolutely everything. The bungalows are very comfortable and spacious. The outside shower is lovely! The owners do absolutely everything to make your stay the best, thank-you Monika & Jeroslav! The staff make excellent breakfast/lunch/dinner. We initially booked 3 days but stayed another as it is such a relaxing place to be. Perfect place to read your book, swim, look at the stars at night, beach walks, have a nice cold beer:)

We had wonderful 4 night stay, everything was perfect. The resort is new and very modern and clean. The location is perfect, there is quiet paradise-like beach straight at the backyard. The staff and owners were really helpful and nice. Food was really good at the restaurant (breakfast and dinners). We ate there every night. We highly recommend this really relaxing and beautiful place to stay.

The Sleeping Elephant is a very new and modern resort. A beautiful beach, a small pool, friendly staff and owners makes this beautiful place a very relaxing environment. The villa/bungalows are very nicely decorated and designed.

Absolutely nothing - it was all amazing!

We loved everything about the Sleeping Elephant - from the lovely staff and cleanliness to the amazing beach front location and delicious freshly made food. From the moment of arrival we were welcomed and made to feel at home. The owners and staff cannot do enough to make your stay feel special. The property was immaculate, modern and very spacious. It’s so quiet and peaceful, only with the sounds of the waves. We cannot recommend the Sleeping Elephant enough - you must stay and experience paradise. So much so we have changed our plans to return at the end of our travels around Sri Lanka to stay again!

Everything was perfect!

It’s a new super nice and clean property and clean I mean by European standards :) Everything is so convenient, the pool and restaurant and access to the beach… its located actually right on the amazing beach. Perfect with family and we loved to have the freedom, homely feeling that was there. We made morning exercises and long walks on this amazing beach. Just perfect!

As soon as we arrived - tired from travel we have been greeted by so nice people, that all the exhaustion vanished:-) They looked for our pleasant stay in every way - they have arranged all transportation - to delta boat trip, safari, bird sanctuary and many more. I didn´t have to worry or arrange anything - and that is a prefect way how to get really relaxed:-D Food was delicious, accomodation new, modern but still with a taste of exotic. The location is absolutely perfect. Directly on the beachfront. The beach - 10 km of sandy beach, tranquil without umbrellas and definitelly not overcrowded. Me and my family couldn´t be more happy.

The wifi was not very uniform around the property.

The resort is very new and one can see the owners put a lot of effort in making it welcoming and comfortable. A big plus is the proximity to the beach, with a peek at the local fishermen and their daily life.
