Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThere is steep hill to get up but if you hire a scooter from the White Elephant half way up the hill, then it isnt a problem at all. They also will pick you up from Ella station if needed.
The staff were great, the room was large and clean & the view was one of the best in Ella!

The pool on the rooftop was just perfect. The views are breathtaking. Breakfast was really good and copious. Room was clean and spacious.

RomaniaI would suggest adding more food options, not that spicy :) for a la carte. Breakfast buffet can be improved.
We had a lovely stay at Morning Dew. The staff is really nice and helpful. The room was comfortable and with beautiful views. The location itself is amazing, best place to see Ella's attractions. Food and cocktails were also good at the a la carte restaurant.

NetherlandsThe hotel is on a Hill, which can only be reached via car and by foot. So tuk tuk isn’t an option and the path is very steep and dark at night

SpainThey show you the price in the dollars but later they charge you in LKR using their own currency rate, so the prices are higher. As well for the happy hour, they said it was 2 for 1 and then it was 3 for 2. So need to be careful, they are not playing fair. No mosquitos plug.
The hotel is quite close to station. They have a roof swimming pool with a great view. The rooms are spacious and clean. The food was good

IrelandHotel is located at the top of a steep windy unlit path! A shuttle service runs until 6pm. However if you’re dining in Ella (like we did), you need to walk up and down it! Reservation team weren’t very responsive/ helpful when we tried to extend our stay
Beautiful view from our quadruple room, room is worth it for the view alone! (although an electricity mast blocks the sunrise views!!) Room was also very spacious with a small living area, which was great. Breakfast was simple but lovely. Hotel is perfect to enjoy the view and for an action packed time in Ella. However hotel facilities are quite basic.

AustraliaThe hotel is located on top of the mountain which means a steep walk up the hill - no issues, just more for people to be aware of. Hotel does provide a shuttle when you arrive and leave to help with bags.
Fantastic facilities, friendly staff, lovely pool on the roof to over look the mountains.

United Arab EmiratesIt is a bit of a hike as the hotel is located at the highest point of Ella town. The shuttle is not available after 6pm and the tuktuk drivers refuse to go up. It is not a big problem unless you go out for the night and return to the hotel late at night.
The room was great, the view was even better. The staff was very helpful, the room was very clean. The breakfast was delicious. The team is on top of things, from planning your arrival to a great check in process. Do visit the rooftop pool to experience the best views of Ella.

The room was comfortable. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was good. The highlight of this hotel was the 5th floor rooftop bar and pool with amazing views. The hotel is an uphill walk however, they provide free shuttle service through out the day to the city center which is barely 5 min from this hotel.

United Arab EmiratesNot necessarily the hotel’s fault but it was hard to sleep at night due to loud music coming from Ella until late in the AM. Potentially due to new year’s celebration.

United KingdomSituated on the top of a hill. Whilst we were aware of this beforehand, the sheer steepness of the hill was a major issue. So much so that we did not feel comfortable leaving the hotel in the rain for fear of slipping. Further, a tuk tuk could not actually get up the slope in the rain, meaning we had to walk the rest of the way in a downpour. Finally, despite being on the top of a hill, it was still very loud overnight. This was due to a neighbouring party hostel. Whilst there isn’t much the hotel can do to address this, it was an issue.
The staff could not be better, extremely helpful and very friendly. Food was nice, the Belimal tea upon arrival was a nice touch. Great views from the rooftop area. Reasonably well located as the crow flies.

United KingdomLovely location but difficult to get to. The last stretch of road to the hotel is very steep and tuk tuks can only take one person at a time and struggled. Most tuk tuks will not take you. Only book if relatively fit.

United KingdomOnly slight negative is the sound of bass in the evening from the surrounding bars but that is out of their control and there seemed to be a curfew at around midnight. You will get this at any hotel as Ella is a busy vibrant town full of bars and restaurants! Not so much a dislike but a tip.. if you have any sort of mobility issues or gym isn’t your strong suit, then would recommend making use of the shuttle service offered by the hotel. We walked up from the station with our 80l packs and it was a steep incline for the final 150m.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at this hotel (wished we spent more time here on our tour of Sri Lanka - hindsight is a wonderful thing!) - whilst the hotel is a little bit more expensive you certainly get the value associated with it. From the moment we arrived the staff were attentive and welcoming. The room was very clean and had all the things you’d need. The food was very tasty and had a more varied menu for both Sri Lankan food and western style alternatives. The rooftop terrace is a real jewel in the crown of this hotel as the views were breathtaking and the infinity pool and sunbathing deck were perfect. (Pool was slightly chilly getting in but that was a welcome relief from the 36c sun).
