Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe fact we only stayed 1 night.
Had the absolute pleasure of staying here with my partner. However, only for 1 night. The host organised transport from our previous accommodation and on arrival we got welcome drinks (from the mango tree in front of our cottage!) and organised a half day safari for the following day. The room was spacious, clean with good A/C, a fan and plug points on either side of the big bed which had a bug net over it. The toilet, oh my god, the toilet. Clean, electric shower, everything you may ever need with beautiful stone work on the shower walls and floor which had no ceiling and was open to the elements which was incredible! The area is best of both worlds, the cottages are placed in a way that seems like you're in the middle of the jungle, peace and quiet with just wildlife noises, but you're less than a minute walk from shops etc. Dasun (owner) organised a trip for us to the Elephant Transit Home and went out of his way to show us Indian Flying Foxes on the way there and the beautiful, massive lake on the way back. Dinner was cooked by Dasun's mum and it was simply amazing. Beautifuly presented and tasted incredible! The following morning we got our half day safari, seen plenty of wildlife, it felt safe and wild and amazing! Breakfast in the jungle during the safari then back to the cottage, another drink (probably the best lemonade I've ever had) and Dasun sorted us out with transport to our next destination. Overall this was our favourite stay by a mile during our trip so far and Dasun is probably the nicest, kindest person I've ever met. A very easy 10/10 and I really hope we get to return one day. Dasun... Remember, if you're ever in Scotland... :)

Germany-
We just loved our stay at Hasthi Safari Cottage. Dasun is an extraordinarily friendly and lovely host. He helped us to arrange the arrival and departure to the hotel and even drove us to our next stop by himself. The atmosphere within his little paradise is fantastic. Also it's not far from the entrance of the Nationalpark and Dasun arranged a wonderful game drive for us as well. I would definitely recommend everyone to go there.

United KingdomNothing to dislike. You won't be disappointed.
Love the jungle feel to the rooms in this place. Little jungle huts. There are only 3. We arrived a night earlier than originally booked having contacted the owner to see if he could squeeze us in. We stayed in one of the huts for the first night as it was the only one available at such short notice. This was fine. The bed was enormous, the outside bathroom was quirky. We moved the next day in to the room with the plunge pool (there is only one of these) - this was great for our return from the safari to sit in and cool down in after a long day out. The safari was arranged by the owner and we had an excellent driver, a jeep to ourselves. We did the full day safari and can't recommend it enough. We saw very little in the way of elephants in the morning, but saw loads of other wildlife, the driver was confident we would see herds at around lunchtime as his experience has shown him that they come out at this time of day to cool down in the watering holes and mud baths. He was not wrong. We saw 3 different herds of elephants at this time of day, and no other jeeps were around when we saw the biggest herd of 12!!! Amazing experience. There are only a couple of restaurants/hotels in the area for food, but we ate at the property on the 2nd night and the food was delicious and nicely presented. Would definitely recommend a stay here.

United KingdomMostly small cosmetic issues but the bed was very creaky and did sometimes sound a bit like it was going to break. There were some holes in the mosquito net so a replacement would be great. Family were very friendly but it was sometimes a little tricky to contact/find them when needed. A little more communication around breakfast and checkout time would be amazing.
Great location. Fantastic Sri Lankan breakfast included in price. Tea and kettle provided in room. Friendly family run hotel. Host was very friendly and helpful on arrival. He responded to us incredibly quickly (we booked Hasthi on the same day as arrival, due to a let down from another accommodation).

United StatesIt's not a fancy resort but everything is quality and very clean. The decorations are quaint and homey. The AC cannot combat the heat but all of the positives of meeting a lifelong friend and sharing this adventure with my family made it worthwhile.
Dasoon is the best. He took care of my family as if we were his family. He arranged a great safari and coordinated taxis and logisics. The food we ate there was the best we had in Sri Lanka.

We booked on the morning and Dasun could not have been more accommodating - he was quick to answer our questions and made sure we enjoyed our short stay as much as possible. Amazing food cooked by his family and we loved the comfortable rooms. He also arranged a 4 hour morning safari for us which was a great experience. Thank you Dasun!

This place was just beautiful and the host was such a good person. We had perfect two nights with lots of good food and conversations. One highlight is the open bathroom where can shower under the sun. The room is spacious, very clean and with ac. You can see the passion in every detail of the cottage. Breakfast & dinner were so good we decided to stay both days here for dinner. We had welcome drinks and dasun helped us with every question. He even drove us to our next destination by himself for a good price. We booked our safari with him and it was perfect. We saw a lot of elephants, birds, crocodiles and jackals. Thank you Dasun for the warm welcome & the beautiful stay. It’s a good place for everyone who want to calm down and relax. We recommend it to everybody!
