100 years old Ryokan! Just Great! The best way to experience traditional Japanese hospitality😊 We were looking for something more traditional and that’s just what we got. Very clean and comfortable. The host of the ryokan is extremely friendly and polite! The best! Very good location close to the station / metro.

The ryokan is about 700 m from Kyoto station, makes it very easy to reach any destination in Kyoto by bus or train. There are Family mart dan 7 eleven nearby. The owner can speak English and very nice. He also accepted cash payment if you don't have a credit card or other online payment. When we get in, he will ask us to leave our shoes on a rack at the front desk, and change it with provided sandals. The heater was on, right at the front door, so it's warm inside. We booked family room on the 2nd floor, so the room is quite spacious with 3 futon beds. The host provides tea making facility in the room, TV (Japan channels only), yukata, blankets, towels, and air humidifier, as Japan air is very dry. Bathroom is shared. On the 2nd floor there are 2 bathrooms and 2 toilets, and there are more on the 1st floor. Soap, shampoo, hairdryer, toothpaste, and toothbrush provided. There's also a small garden and small onsen on the 1st floor, right in front of the garden and laundry room. The host taught me to use the coin laundry (400 yen) and dryer (200 yen). Detergent is provided for free. For not disturbing other guests, the latest time to use washing machine is at 9.30 PM, because it will take 35 minutes to finish washing, and 4 hours to dry. However, once you start the dryer, you can leave the machine works, and take the clothings out in the morning.

We loved everything. The kindness and helpfulness of the manager, the deep soaking bathtub, the beautiful room overlooking the cute garden. The location was perfect, close for walking and for trains. Overall a comfortable, authentic and well priced stay. We didn’t want to leave.

We didn't have any issues during our stay since we were mainly taking it slow in Kyoto. For others: It's very very quiet at night, so if you are a night owl, you might feel like every noise you make can be heard by others. Additionally, the curfew at 11pm could be an issue for anyone who might enjoy being out late.

The host for the ryokan is very very polite and helpful, and he was very understanding when we arrived much later than expected due to train misunderstandings (side note: if you're coming from Osaka, make sure you're taking the express train, not local!). We wanted a traditional stay, and the space felt authentic, even down to having different shoes for outside, inside, and the restrooms. It was very very clean and cozy. Even with Kyoto's nighttime temperatures being super cold, it was warm and cozy inside the ryokan and it felt so nice to come back to the space. The location is also a short walk to Kyoto and Shichijo stations, which meant a pretty short ride to see Fushimi Inari Taisha. We loved our stay and would absolutely come back here again.

Toilet stall was a bit small…

Very traditional ryokan situated at a quiet spot within walking distance of Kyoto station. The gentleman who hosted us was very friendly, and always greeted us whenever we returned and made us feel at home. He also helped us with our luggage delivery, which was excellent and arrived on time. The shared bath might not be for everybody, but having a hot tub to soak in and relax a tired body on a cold night was just pure bliss.

For a simple accommodation like this with a shared bathroom, I find 100€ per night a bit expensive but I guess this is what you have to pay during high season. I don't know where the photo of the garden was taken as we did not see a garden there

The location is great within walking distance both to the train station and the city center. The owner was friendly and the ryokan very clean. We both got a yukata to use during our stay which was a super beautiful one. For a Japanese accommodation, this room was bigger than expected

The hot bath needed some TLC. It was a little worn around the edges and could do with a spruce up. They should get rid of the urinals as they smelt overpoweringly of disinfectant and then they would have more room for the toilets as they were very cramped.

    The location and the owner.

The curfew at night can be stressful when you have only 3 days to spend in Kyotoa and 3000 things to do and visit.

We were looking for something more traditional and that’s just what we got. From sleeping on tatami to wearing yakatas, common bathroom. It’s small but it was enough for the two of us. The staff was kind and helpful, specially when we needed to transfer our luggage to our next hotel.

This property has a very homely aesthetic and had good facilities. The owner was extremely friendly and let us leave our bags at the ryokan hours after checkout as our train wasn’t till later that day. It was also well located near the main street but quiet at night. We enjoyed the hot bath in the shower area which was available during the night.

First time staying at a Ryokan and they’ve set the bar so high. They were very accomodating and it really felt like a nice warm environment to be in. It was super clean as if they were cleaning constantly! Highly recommended if you’re in Kyoto.

I didn’t really like the shared bathrooms. There was a good system for it but other travelers don’t necessarily follow it well.

The facilities were way better than expected for an old ryokan! It is more rustic than old. The host/staff were also great and very helpful.
