Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We’re currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil, and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

JapanWhen my neighbors talked, I knew what they said. No blackout curtains. One bathroom for half a dozen rooms. Sink counter was wooden and filthy. Only bathroom sink was also for cleaning dishes. Shower had no cool water. Nice electronic door locks, but very loud beeps. Close to the train station—close enough to hear every train and the caution bells for the street crossing. Only one very bright light in my room and the switch was by the door.
Fairly quiet despite lack of insulation. Bed was decent. AC worked well.

AustraliaIt's in a very good location for Kamakura, next to a quirky little amazing used bookstore full of treasure. It's not that hard to find, it's well-signposted. The room I stayed in was very cute and had a little balcony area where I could enjoy my morning coffee. The building is pretty cold, though it wasn't an issue with an air-conditioner, I forgot how these old Japanese buildings could get cold with timber floors and single glass doors.

CanadaThis place was so cool! LOVED the old house that the rooms are situated in - it was so quiet and peaceful and I had my own access to the garden. The rooms have beautiful murals painted on the walls and I had some of the best sleep of my entire trip here. I wish I would have stayed longer! The location is also super central and right near the JR line and local line station. Lots of cafes and shops in the area, yet the house is tucked away in a quiet street so it feels like a nice break from the hustle and bustle. The staff are super friendly and fun to talk to. Can't wait to stay here again when I return!

FranceAbsolute 0 sound proof in this ancient style place. While the look is nice and feels authentic, I could only sleep a few hours because of the noise. And ultimately want you want to do is rest ..
Nice staff - authentic style

United States of AmericaSuch a tiny room for two people. No space to even open suitcases. When the ladder is in place to get to the top bunk, it blocks the door. The sliding door wouldn't slide.
Good location near the train station. Friendly and helpful staff.

New ZealandThe whole building felt very cramped. The bathroom was next to the kitchen sink / cooking area, which was next to the general bathroom sink, which was right in front of the reception booth. So, unless you were in your room, you always felt very self-conscious about being in other people's spaces. The dryer had a thick layer of dust in the vents. The walls are very thin (they do warn you about that).
The location was close to Kamakura train station. The house had a quaint, traditional vibe. The staff spoke English and were very friendly. Washer and dryer were free to use.

PolandThat said, the house is lovely, but it's old, so it might not be for everyone. The walls are thin (as it says in the description) and you can hear lots of sounds including the train. I didn't mind it, plus other guests were quiet, but it might be a bother.
This place is unique. I was looking for a more traditional lodging with affordable price and it was a perfect match. I really enjoyed the vibe of an old Japanese house. The staff showed me around, I loved the free of charge dryer and the common space. The room felt a bit cold, but I got an extra blanket. The overall atmosphere was great, definitely an experience I would recommend to anyone while in Japan, on par with staying in a ryokan or love hotel.
