Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Excellent location overlooking the Pacific. A modern hotel but with traditional Ryokan - style rooms available plus an onsen bath and a small outdoor pool. Obviously popular for surfing. Staff very helpful, well trained and cheery. Choice of cuisine available - Japanese and western. Food provided very well presented, expertly served and tasty. Hotel provided a courtesy coach to and from the town centre.

JapanWe didn’t get it clear that we had to book in advance for breakfast so no breakfast for us. Same for diner where we missed the deadline by 20’ and not much flexibility was shown either.
Very large room overlooking the sea is a major highlight. Very nice onsen with great view as well. Direct access to the beach which is very handy.

United KingdomThe balcony area outside our room was a bit muddy and uncared for and the chairs and table not very comfortable which was a pity as the view was spectacular and it would have been nice to sit out there.

NetherlandsSmall detail: the lights at the outside bath didn't go off, so no night sky or view at the ocean at night due to light pollution. I think the timer switch is broken.
The location is great. Open baths, the whole Ryokan experience with food and futon. This was our first Ryokan experience where we actually slept, and could get very used to this.

JapanIt is a very worn out hotel, it needs a renovation. The futon and the pillow wasnt very comfortable. Also it was very expensive despite the off-season.
I think this hotel stands out for its food. I stayed half board and the kaiseki style meals were great not only in their presentation but also taste. Staff was friendly also. The onsen facilities are small but nice. Especially the one at the top with rocks. I dont like the plastic onsen bath. The room had nice view and was very clean. I really also appreciated the very silent AC.

United StatesThe staff was nice, but because I couldn't speak Japanese I really wasn't informed on much of anything. I ended up missing the shuttle back to the station because I was not informed of the shuttle times. I also asked for a late checkout to which they only replied with "Okay." but they ended up trying to charge me 4,400 yen for it. Even when I explained that they didn't inform me that there would be a fee and that I would not have done that if I knew about the fee, they still made me pay for half. I also had to go up to the front to ask about bath times (which they told me wrong so I didn't even get to use the public baths), and a couple of other things. I also tried to call the hotel 2 times beforehand to ask about how to get on the shuttle from the station and they really didn't make any effort to communicate while I was using a translation app to speak to them. I do not by any means expect a Japanese hotel to speak English for me, but I wish they would not list it as one of their languages on Booking. Again I do not mind speaking Japanese but I would at least liked to have been informed of everything the hotel has to offer.
The views were amazing. That was the best thing about this hotel. The outside tub was soooo nice for the money. The staff was friendly and very respectful. The dinner and breakfast that were included were very good and well thought out!

NorwayThe hallways need renovation, but everything seemed very clean and it was not a problem
The food was excellent with very impressive presentations. We had half-board and the latest breakfast serving was at 8:30, the latest dinner at 18:30. Not much happening in the evening, although the onsens were great. It felt like a spa-resort more than a bustling hotel, but we enjoyed it. We had a traditional room with futons and a lovely sea-view. It was simple but comfortable and clean.

SpainThis is undoubtedly the best hotel I have stayed in. Everything from the location, the amazing staff, the huge room from where you can see the beach and the incredible private onsen inside the room was 10/10. It’s a bit far from everything but it’s completely worth it. Also, they provide a bus to and from the station.
