Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThere is nothing we didn’t like. We had a wonderful time.
Seikoro Ryokan was beautiful, comfortable, and accessible to the city. The staff and service were absolutely incredible and we felt so well-taken-care-of. There are not very many rooms, so guests get very personal service and we felt like they were truly happy to have us. The public bath was beautiful as well. The 10 course meal was so fun and yummy!

United StatesWe stayed here for one night, and booked this ryokan specifically for an evening of rest. If you are seeking a traditional experience, I highly recommend Seikoro! Our room was extremely spacious and just absolutely gorgeous. We were greeted so warmly by the incredibly friendly staff and we felt so welcome and comfortable. There were yukata in the closet for us to wear, and we had dinner in our room, which was just a fun and spectacular experience for my husband and i. The food just kept coming! And there is beer and sake if you'd like to order some, which we certainly enjoyed. We went to bed very full and very happy, and I couldn't stop marveling at the incredible setting I found myself in here. In the morning, I ventured down to the onsen where I had a wonderful bath, and I had the bath all to myself! After a lovely breakfast, again in our room, we left for the next leg of our adventure, well rested and satisfied. It was a bit of a splurge, for the room and the meals, but I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. What a lovely stay and what a gracious and friendly staff! I'll never forget it.

I LOVED my stay here! The staff are absolutely amazing. Every one or them is so kind and helpful. My stewardess was one of my favourite people I met during my travels. She was so sweet and couldn’t do enough to help me. As a solo female traveller she gave me great recommendations and took great care of me. The facilities are fantastic and the overall accommodation is stunning. Highly recommend!

United StatesNo complaints! Wish we could have stayed here longer...
The staff greeted us upon every arrival and departure of the facility, very welcoming and accommodating. The room was perfect for our family of 5 -- more than enough space, seating, storage, private bathroom, air conditioning. Both the Western and Japanese breakfast options were delicious. Afternoon tea with a cookie/treat was delightful!

United StatesThis was the best place we stayed in Japan, and I hope to come back again! If you do one thing on your trip to Japan, I highly recommend staying at a traditional ryokan. Seikoro was the best choice for us because it is located in Kyoto's city center and was really traditional without being inconvenient or uncomfortable. Plus, it has been owned by the same family for 7 generations! In addition to making use of the onsen, our group also purchased the traditional kaiseki dinner and breakfast. It was SO MUCH FOOD--I highly recommend fasting if you can. It was also delicious--one of our best meals in Japan, and a wide variety of dishes and flavors. The volume and quality of the food were well worth the money. We also slept on the tatami and it was incredibly comfortable. 10/10, would stay again and recommend to any traveler.

United StatesThe walls and floors are not very sound proof, so book a room upstairs if you want a little more peace.
This is not your average hotel, but a step back in history and culture. It is a true experience and we are so glad we included this on our family trip to Japan. Management and staff were wonderful and made every effort to make us feel at home. The traditional Japanese breakfast and special dinner served in our room were incredible.
