Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

IndonesiaCan't complain...
The location is superb, very close to the subway/metro, surrounded by convenience shops and food sellers. However, what's great is that the atmosphere is calm at night. Simple breakfasr but still OK.

There is a cafe on the basement floor and they serve free breakfast every morning (bread, soup and beverages). The hotel locates close to the subway stations so it’s very accessible to the Sky Tree and Shinjuku.

NetherlandsIf you want to go out in Shibuya, it would be a long walk.
I really liked the café where you can meet other people. It makes it a lively hostel without being a party hostel. This is also because of the many events hosted here like the language café and the breakfast (even though the breakfast was small). I met so many other travelers while being here. The location was great too. In a nice and more quiet neighborhood, but right in the center. It's very close to the metro station.

CanadaIt might be better if travelling with group of friends. Having to share bunk beds with other travelers is not very comfortable. We all have different schedule and I either feel like I am disrupting them getting ready in the morning/night or they would be up and getting ready when I am sleeping.
Location is convenient, right by a station. Room and shower/toilet was clean. The staff members were super friendly and helpful. The free breakfast was a nice bonus, very chill vibe, tourist friendly.

ItalyIt's not really the hotel's fault, as much as a responsibility of the guests: the shared lavatories on my floor were often dirty and left by some other guests in a frankly unacceptable way. It's a shared place so I am not supposed to find someone else's toothbrush or cosmetics or clothes lying around where I need to wash my face or brush my teeth; nor someone else's remnants of shaving or spit toothpaste. I went to many shared lodgings all around Japan and this was the first time I found such messes. Guess it's all kinds of people gathering in Tokyo vs more self-conscious travelers in more secluded areas? Anyway: either people learn to be more civil in shared spaces or the staff should put up signs and point that out, 'cause cleanings were done daily and properly but if those who come right after leave a mess... it's for naught.
Easy-goin hotel in Jimbocho, very nice position, super close to the subway and in a quiet neighborhood with good choice of konbinis, cafes and restaurants. My private room was clean and large enough, bed comfortable and warm. Room service cleans and changes the sheet every day. The toilets and showers are shared. There's 2 toilets for ladies and 2 for men, plus 2 showers and 4 basins. I never had to wait to use the toilets or the showers, which were also quite clean all the time. There's a simple breakfast included in the fare: bread, butter and jam with coffee, tea and milk. Very simple but enough to start off and anyway it's ok for the place. Staff is nice and helpful and speaks good English. There's a good selection of guides in the lobby and they sell the 24-72 hours subway tickets, which is great. I liked my stay and would definitely consider coming back.

GermanyThe location is amazing. Easy to access and around nice parks and mini markets. This place was perfect to spend one night. Despite the size of the spaces (everything is very tight which is usual in Tokyo) and the simplistic look, the hotel was incredibly clean.

AustraliaI know hotel rooms in Japan are small and it did say “small bed” however the room was smaller than expected! We could only open one suitcase at a time, was a little claustrophobic sort of like a cupboard under the stairs.
