Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomFantastic staff and in a great location, easy access to the local area and the Tokyo metro/JR rail network. Rooms while small are very comfortable and the staff can provide additional sleeping mats if needed. Traditional Japanese breakfast was delicious. Thank you for a great stay!

United StatesI wasn't a fan of the futon bed and next time will choose the western style bed.
I really enjoyed the public bath and the Japanese breakfast. They're located on a quiet side street but it's just a few block walk to multiple train stations and many restaurants. The staff was excellent, very polite and quick to respond to any and all requests. The cafe has an excellent sound system and plays jazz in the afternoons and evenings, a great place to spend an hour or two listening to jazz greats like Miles Davis and John Coltrane.

SingaporeRoom was too small for packing things into our luggages. Perhaps 2 people is the ideal max for the room we booked. Instead of using key cards, only ONE physical key was given for unlocking the room door.
Public bath and lounge area with massage chairs, vending machines, and some books in the basement level. Friendly staff who even offered us free gifts during checkout. Complimentary delicious Japanese cuisine for breakfast. Tamago kake gohan, or TKG for short, was the best.

From the moment we walked in we felt the exceptional and warm hospitality of the entire team at Ochanomizu. The team went above and beyond to accomodate requests, with their communication and to create an environment that was extremely welcoming and comfortable. The breakfast, in room bathing facilities and location were all excellent, and we really appreciated the massage chairs after long days of exploring. We have been to Tokyo a number of times and Ochanomizu has been our favourite place to stay, it felt like a home away from home. If your are looking for a more traditional and intimate place to stay, in a quieter area, this is perfect! Thank you to all the team for their round the clock service, friendliness and gifts. We can’t wait to come back (:

GermanyActually, there is nothing.
We had a really good time at the Ryokan and I personally would recommend it to everyone else who would like to have a traditional japanese stayover during their holiday. The staff was super nice during our stay and really helpful regarding questions. It was our first time experiencing sleeping in a futon, which definitely is something you have to get used to :'D But it was a nice try! Our room was really clean and also very cozy, if you'd ask me. The location itself is really good, not at any hot spot area, but it doesn't take long to go to the busy districts. Akihabara is only 20mins walk from there and Ginza just around the corner. You'll fine plenty of restaurants nearby and also the cobini. The breakfast was also very yummy, very traditional with rice, side dishes and Miso soup. We all enjoyed it quite a lot and were quite sad leaving. Would come back, for sure!

United KingdomThe noise from the refrigerator, but I unplugged it and that helped. I am quite a light sleeper.
Friendly, patient, and helpful staff were the standout. Quiet location close to metro. Washing machine. Breakfast was served in the Jazz bar; perfect for the Jazz fan.

IrelandNothing we didn't like!
We stayed in 6 different hotels during this trip and this hotel was probably our favourite place to stay. The room was very comfortable - good size and comfortable bed. The staff were very friendly and so helpful when we ordering a taxi. They also gave us a present each as we left. There was also a complimentary breakfast which was very nice. Unfortunately we did not use the public baths as have tattoos but we used the massage chairs in the basement floor and they were amazing! The location of this hotel is also within walking distance to Ochanomizu station and the famous bridge from the Suzume no Tojimari movie (just in case you're interested!)

United KingdomWe had a smoker's room despite not being smokers and there was a very slight smell of stale smoke, but they did say that they would deodorize the room as much as possible
Super friendly and helpful staff, very polite and amazing customer service, reasonably basic traditional style room, but quite spacious for Tokyo (I believe) and lovely shower

United StatesBeware of the challenges of reserving a Japanese-style room. You must take off one's shoes outside the elevator and remain in socks in the tatami area in front of and inside the rooms. You must be flexible to get up from the futon. There is no chair or writing desk in these rooms. If any one of these poses a problem, I suggest that you reserve a Western-style room.
Reasonable price for central Tokyo. Roughly 10-minute walk to Shin-Ochanomizu subway station. Simple but good Japanese breakfast, where 1950s-60s jazz plays from the owners' vast collection of LPs. A very serviceable o-furo (public bath) in the basement, as well as a laundry and reading area with massage chairs. Very friendly and helpful staff. You cannot reach the hotel in a taxi or otherwise without a good, printed map (or GPS coordinates).

DenmarkThe onsen is probably not a real hot spring, but you won't find any anyways unless you go out of the city.
We booked this hotel so we can experience onsen without going out of the city. The Japanese experience was excellent and the service was superb. We love that you can walk around in yukata within the place going to the onsen and while eating breakfast. There was good communication with the staff despite the language barrier.

GermanyThe pillows were a bit stiff in my opinion.
This is the third time I've stayed in this hotel. It is a wonderfully quiet oasis in the centre of loud Tokyo. The hotel is within walking distance of Ochanomizu Station. When we returned in the evening after a busy day of travelling, we enjoyed a traditional Japanese bath at the hotel. The hotel staff are very nice and always ready to help. I will come back again next time.

GermanyWe felt like our room was a little small for three people, with the three futons on the floors there was not much room left for luggage etc. So for a longer stay, we'd book two rooms for our group of three.
We only stayed for one night and didn't have breakfast or use the onsen, so the review is purely about the room. The staff is very nice and polite. Our room was perfectly clean and the futons were the most comfortable ones we've slept on during our trip to japan.

United StatesI had no idea there were more amenities in the basement until the last day. you have to leave your key at the front desk when you leave, which is smart but still requires feeling like you have people waiting for you. The bath was great, though it was not an onsen. The traditional Japanese style room was very small.
The staff was excellent: they went above and beyond to try to help despite their limited English. I stayed in a modern room my third night, and it was very spacious with plenty of amenities, including a multi-jet shower.
