Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesHad the tajima beef shabu-shabu meal. It was good but personally for us probably wasn't worth the extra money. It was a nice experience though. Breakfast was also just okay in our opinion.
Location and staff were both very good. Hotel was very nice and clean. There were 4 private baths and I think a total of like 12-16 rooms? This guarantees there's usually always a private bath open to use. Only time there wasn't was right around check-in time.

United StatesThat I didn't have more time to spend here. Everything was wonderful.
The location is excellent and the staff is exceptional. I was greated with hot tea and when they found out I was going to miss breakfast they hand delivered a maki roll the evening before my train. My room was spacious and clean.

United StatesMikuniya is a 5-star resort. Everything from arrival/check-in to check-out is handled with great care and attention to detail. The rooms are beautiful with lovely tatami mats and a seating area that I enjoyed in the evenings. The very comfortable futon was prepared by the staff each night and then put away each morning while you are away at breakfast. Dinner was served in the room each night, kaiseki style. The flavors, textures and colors were exquisitely prepared by the chef. These were meals like I had nowhere else in Japan - simply incredible! Dinner the first night included Shabu Shabu Tajima beef, crab, sashimi, tempura, spanish mackerel and more. The second night's dinner was just as incredible. For the "onsen hopping" experience, you are provided with a takaya, belt/obi, slippers, towels, etc. for use in the onsens. Then just follow the easy to read map and stroll around town enjoying the incredible hot baths. Truth be told, I only managed to complete 3 in one day - I took my time and they are HOT! Be prepared! But it's a great experience. The hotel has 4 of its own private onsens which I used 2 different times. It's convenient to have them at the hotel - I used one the morning of checkout because I didn't want to walk to another one in town. The staff at Mikuniya are so kind and helpful with anything you need - from the wonderful dinner service to helping with check-in, or even helping to tie obi sash. I would highly recommend the hotel. It's a bit on the expensive side, but definitely worth a splurge in this wonderful town. It's a unique magical experience.

This property is incredibly beautiful and is about a 5 min walk away from the train station in Kinosaki. We showed up early and they held our bags while we explored the city before check in. Once we came back to check in, our bags were already in the room. They gave us a tour of the property which includes a main dining area for your dinner or breakfast if you included that in the booking and four private onsens for the guests to use on a first come first serve basis. We used the private onsens a number of times and there was always at least one available. We booked the suite and it was a stunning, huge room. There was a sitting desk area, an enormous living room with a couch and TV (first couch I’ve seen in a ryokan style room), separate bedroom area with two full size futon mattresses on the floor, a kitchenette, and a large bathroom with a shower. The property was a nice mixture of traditional Japanese ryokan and modern amenities. They give you beautiful Yukatas to wear throughout the town; women get to pick a color design of their choosing, and they give you wooden slippers to wear out on the street. As part of your booking, you also receive a lanyard with a QR code to grant you access to all of the public onsens within Kinosaki. They have a guidebook in the room which included recommendations for places to eat. We went to a local Oden restaurant and it was one of my favorite meals in Japan. There are many restaurant and cafe options within a short walking distance as well as a 24 hr Family Mart just down the street. We included the traditional Japanese breakfast in the booking and I highly recommend it as it was delicious. The staff were extremely kind and accommodating and the property also has a washing machine and a microwave to use.

United StatesBreakfast at in was japanese style only...read lots of seafood...town is extremely limited for breakfast, best bet for continental breakfast is picking up some pastries at grocery store across from ryokan.
So friendly, they even prepped a bathing kit for my 9 month old and made a futon up just for him. Ran out of diapers and they had a few extra. Loved the hotsprings within the inn. We stayed in jr. suite, loved the space in it.
