Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

MalaysiaMakoto can be very strict about the check-in time. Glad I'm not late. If you're not the talkative type, you might feel alienated and end up observing everyone else talking to each other.
You'll be able to experience a japanese housing neighbourhood outside of the bustling city. Host was very nice and ensure that the environment is comfortable for everyone. Host was able to converse english well and has a sense of humor. The ground floor is a good place for chat with other guests. Suitable for extroverts.

AustraliaI didn’t mind anything about the property but for some people it might be too far.
Makoto is really nice and helpful. The hostel is very clean, staff are very polite and friendly. And just good vibes in the hostel, no complaints.

GermanyNo shower between 11 am and 4 pm. No water dispenser. Make sure to ask for a second blanket early enough if it's a bit cold in the room. The blankets are very thin. Air in the room was a bit dry. Bed curtains are see-through. Place is quite far from the city center, but public transport is good. Tip: Go to Ayase Station and get 24-hrs-metro ticket for ¥600.
This place is undoubtly exceptional because it is one the few places in Japan that are truly social. If you enjoy being by yourself, not being bothered by others while heading out everyday alone for sightseeing, then you're well-off in one of the numerous capsule hotels that are spread around the country. For almost everyone else, this place is going change your entire traveling experience in Japan for the better. You will meet with fellow travelers that share their experiences with you and you will have a place that feels like home. There were numerous times when the owner Makoto was throwing generous parties for all the guests. He generally makes sure that people have a good time and get along. You will make friends here and get advice (you'll need it in this country). The area is a bit far from the city center but it's a nice, quiet and extremely cheap neighborhood. You can get food from very affordable supermarkets like Big-A, shops like Kitayama, or restaurants and Izakayas around. Great value for the money. Coming back also means taking a break from the hustle and bustle of the city center. If I'm coming back to Tokyo, I'll make sure to be here again. The place is quite tidy as it is cleaned thoroughly everyday.

GermanyJust a small detail but I would recommend to exchange the see-through curtains on the bunk beds with real curtains for more privacy while sleeping
It was great - the atmosphere was very open and it was easy to meet other travelers. Internet was fast and in close proximity to the hostel is an affordable supermarket. The host was also very friendly and you could easily approach him - he will help :)

BelgiumNice facilities that help create a social and comfortable environment, with a extremely nice host that add a lot to the good vibes. The dormitories are far enough from the main living room that you won’t hear the peoples that stay up late to talk ;) It is a liter bit far from the center, but the area is really nice and Tokyo’s transportation system is so good that is really isn’t a issue. And all this at a very affordable price

BrazilWhat an incredible stay 💕 Makoto up front welcomed us very kindly and served us some welcome Sake! The environment is very friendly and great for mingling with other guests. It has a very homey and warm feel. It’s not much in the center but we actually liked having a bit of the that quiet suburban feel. Everything you need is close by and the facilities were very confortable and clean! We absolutely loved our stay and would definitely come back! Thank you Makoto for everything and enjoy the 50th review party tonight! You deserved it 👏🥰🙏.

Argentinasince is quite new there are still a few things that need to be improve and makoto it’s on it but I would’ve liked to have a space to talk on the phone with no problems, I managed to do it on the stairs but I still needed to be careful with the noise and also bed lights. Also, it wasn’t a problem for me but be aware that is outside the city so it’s going to take a bit more to go to the city center.
I chose this hostel because the good comments and because it seemed cozy and I was not wrong. The environment invites you to talk to other travelers and make friends specially if you are a solo traveler, totally recommended . I would come back after exploring Tokyo and talk to the other travelers and tell each other’s day and experiences, it totally felt like a home 😊 Besides I was planning on staying 5 days and I ended up staying 2 weeks

FranceUnfortunately, there is two things that were negative for me during my stay. I saw big cockroach, twice at the entrance and once we told me it was in the dorm. There’s nothing much that Makoto can do because they sometimes come from the windows or the door when it’s open to let the wind come in. And the last thing is, WIFI was not working for my phone. It was working very well on my computer and my old phone but for a reason I can’t understand why, it was not working on my phone. Makoto, thank you again for everything! I had a very nice stay~
Makoto was a wonderful host! It was my first guesthouse in Japan and I stayed 1 month in September 2023. I choose it because it had good reviews and even though it opened just 2 months ago, it’s not the first guesthouse of Makoto, he had experience in the past. He built himself the dorms. When I arrived, he was still making the 3rd floor. If you have a backpack, you can bring it with you in the dorm. But I had a big luggage so I had to let it at the entrance of the guesthouse. I asked Makoto if I could have a safe storage for my computer and he built for me a shelf with a locker. But in the end, I didn’t even use it. I was feeling quiet safe in the guesthouse. When I was leaving for a day, I still put all my precious belonging in my big luggage with a lock and never got any problem. It was very clean. There is toilets and shower separated for men and women. Women at the 3rd floor and men at the first floor. It happened once that the men’s shower was out of order. The dorm was quieter than I expected, everyone was respectful. From my bed, it was not too bright in the morning. It was sometimes a bit hot but I never suffered from it thanks to the air conditioning. If I needed to make a phone call, I usually went in the staircase or at the last floor. I couldn’t find any free WIFI in the convenient store nearby. But if you go to the station, there is free WIFI. For the food, I recommend the supermarket Summit. If you go late, you can have a lot of discounts on the food. In the street of the guesthouse, there is a bento restaurant, a side dish restaurant and a yakitori (barbecue meat) stand. There is also a sushi restaurant near the convenient store Mini stop. There few of ramen restaurant near the station. And I can also recommend to go to karaoke in Manekineko. It’s just a bit expensive but very fun!!

Makoto is just great, and the place is wonderfull. I thing the best thing about this place is the commom first floor where a lot of different travelers meet and bond. This place just makes it very easy to find other people to interact with.

GermanyYou should be aware that the hostel is not super close to the city center. But since a metro / train station is close (10 minutes walk) this is no real problem. Also, the neighbourhood is a really nice and calming part of Tokyo.
It's a really nice guesthouse with a very welcoming and familiar atmosphere. Makoto as the host is super engaged in making everyone feel at home and helps with every problem. One of the nicest hostels I stayed in! すごいですよ。

It’s quite a new place and the owner is making constant improvements. For example there’s now a door lock so you can come back at night at any time. The facilities are really comfortable and you definitely get your moneys worth staying!
