Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomUphill for all main transport stops and at least 15 minutes walk. Nice quiet neighbourhood though.
Excellent host. Very welcoming. Kimono rental on Tueaday, Thursday and Saturday for a bit of fun. Not too far from Tofukuji train station or Imagumano bus stop.

ItalyThe apartment is up some very steep stairs and there is only a key to the outside door and not to the apartment door- the entrance is shared with the office (a separate door to enter but linked by an internal door) so it was a bit strange not being able to lock the actual apartment for privacy reasons but it felt safe and we had no issues at all during our stay. Might be nice to invest in a key/ lock to the upstairs door though 😊
The best accommodation in our whole month trip to Japan!! This place was huge and was filled with so many careful touches and thoughts to make our stay even more enjoyable and comfortable. There are booklets upon booklets of tourist information that the owner has written by hand to show you what restaurants to go to, how to get to the shrines and temples nearby, how to use the public transport etc. The time and effort he has clearly put into this place is outstanding. This was also the biggest apartment we stayed in and it was worth every penny! Having a full kitchen where we could cook and plenty of dining space and relaxing space was so nice and refreshing. The owner also got us a gift of some matcha chocolates and let us use the dryer for free as it was raining for most of our stay. So kind and considerate and was so helpful throughout our stay, also letting us check in early and leave our luggage after check out. Honestly, you will not regret booking this place! 😍

ThailandThe stairs were too steep but if you’re below 50 and have no mobility issues then you should be fine. Other than that I have no complaints
I like that the location was a bit farther away from the city center but at the same time quite close to bus stops and the Tofukuji station, which is only one station away from Kyoto Station. The inn has an old vibe to it which made us feel like we were not staying in a place that’s meant for typical airbnbs or hostels. It really felt like home in a residential place and didn’t feel touristy at all. The manager was nice and accommodating. I would recommend it

JapanAlthough the location was a bit far from certain train lines and bus stations, it’s a very cozy atmosphere and everything that you may need for a comfortable stay is provided for. Definitely would recommend for anyone travelling in a small group, especially those energetic enough to explore and stay a bit further away from conventional transport such as buses and trains.

JapanA drying stand for washed clothes would be useful. Or maybe it was somewhere I couldn’t find it.
The apartment was a great size for a family of four and it’s in a great location, walking distance to major sites.

SingaporeThe location is the setback but if you are driving, this place is not an issue. There is only one nearby supermarket, FRESCO, that is open 24 hours. There are no restaurants as well, so it's best to eat before heading back.
The host was super responsive and understanding. We were driving from Osaka to Kyoto. The traffic was holding us back and some minor hiccups along the way, Mr Taka was telling us not to hurry despite it's already 8pm.

RussiaOur main complaint is the cold in the flat. You get 2 air cons, 1 in the bedroom (which is fine and can worm up the room if you close the door) and 1 in the "living room" which is not enough for the whole flat. Also no matter what you do, the floor will stay cold. And since you leave your shoes downstairs w/o any heating they get quite cold in the morning. Also, one of the beds was not clean, found some dust in it and some1 else's hair, but it did'nt really bother me, but for some it can be a big issue.
On the booking form it says that you get an entire house, which is a bit of a overstatement. 1st floor is only entrance and a steep narrow stairs which lead to the 2nd floor. Now, 2nd floor is huge, especially for Japanese flat, you get a fully equipped kitchen, fully equipped bathroom small living room and a bedroom. This was our 3r time in Japan and for the 1st time we didn't need to buy anything extra into the apartment, well done on that front. Trash is taken out by the staff if you ask. The location is also not bad. 10 min and you get to Fresco (24h supermarket), 15 min and you're a the Tofukuji train station and 2min ride to Kyoto station. Neighborhood can be noisy, but after 10pm it is quite.
